Black Hawk down!
Black Hawk down!
Okay, my temple of a body (gag) is not exactly Black Hawk but, yes, it's down. Dragged myself to the clinic after work at 2200hrs and then dragged my sorry ass 2 avenues down on my way home. Having runny/blocked nose, body aches, blocked ears and a very irritable chesty cough for the 2 days and today, I developed major headache in the afternoon during my Business & ICT class. Couldnt pinpoint if it was the students or the accumulative sickness that was giving me the throb. Both, I figured.
This may sound stupid but I think I caught the cold/flu on Saturday when I spent the weekend at Resorts World's Hotel Michael with Liah and Clara. When I was in the shower washing my feet, I accidentally turned on the rainfall shower and it got me soaking wet. The water was super cold and the body system got so jolted out of its wits. I did change into dry clothes but the cold had already gotten to me. It didn't help that the whole Resorts World was freaking cold.
That's such a lame way of getting sick, man. i should have turned on the hot water immediately to counter the cold water effect.
Okay more later.
Need to soothe this headache.
Try a little tenderness perhaps.
P/S: Talking about tenderness, think it is time to get back into the game. Kinda miss the bubbly feeling. Being sick kind of reminds me of going on first dates...I got so nervous, I puked a few times before going out.
P/P/S: Okay looking at the "tak seksi" statement above, I conclude that I am really sick.

Milk
My Business diploma students are forever driving me up the (Great) wall.
Kecik-kecik tak nak tercekik susu dan mampus.
Argh.
P/S: Literal translation...small-small don't want to choke on milk and die.

Florence + The Machine - You've Got the Love
This is wicked. I've fallen in love with Florence + the Machine!

Dancing on my own
Cause I am such a feeling-gay man, it's only natural that I'd love this song.
Somebody said you've got a new friend
Does she love you better than I can
There's a big black sky over my town
I know where you at, I bet she's around
yeah I know it's stupid
I just gotta see it for myself
I'm in the corner watching you kiss her ohhh oh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me ohhh oh
I'm giving it my all
But I'm not the girl you're taking home oooh ooohh
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own
I'm just gonna dance all night
I'm all messed up, I'm so out of line
Stilettos and broken bottles
I'm spinning around in circles
I'm in the corner watching you kiss her ohhh oh
I'm right over here, why can't you see me ohhh oh
I'm giving it my all
But I'm not the girl you're taking home oooh ooohh
I keep dancing on my own
I keep dancing on my own
So far away, but still so near
(The lights go on, the music dies)
But you don't see me standing here
(I just came) to say good-bye
I'm in the corner watching you kiss her ohhh oh
I'm giving it my all
But I'm not the girl you're taking home oooh ooohh

Umbrella beach
Today will be the start of a dark yet exciting journey. Today, the precious project which I have been crafting for the past 1.5 years will take shape. Today, is the start of a freaking long tunnel.
The University of Hertfordshire programme is running tomorrow and I'm teaching 2 modules - Film (as always) and Journalism & Government. Fantastic shits, they are...if only I am not the tutor and lecturer-in-charge for those 2 modules. Also, this programme will criss-cross with my Diploma schedules and all hell will break lose somewhere in November/December, where marking madness is going to hit the roof.
I am excited yet scared. Excited that yes...it is finally unfolding and all the baby steps have elevated into one solid-looking structure. Yet, I am scared because... as it is my baby, I may not have the heart to step away...something which I must do soon - step away. It's time to seek new pastures (sure sound like a cow here) and yes, in the mean time, I have to slowly get detached.
A thousand times goodnight, thoughtful thinkers.
P/S: When I was in the Changi Village Hotel over the weekend, I had a nightmare and I felt someone/something shaking me. I remember I screamed for Meiling but no one came to my rescue. Meiling must have thought that I was sleeptalking. I swear that there was something shaking me.

King of anything

Okay. I've had it with people saying that the NDP celebration is a waste of tax payers' money. That's not fair. Nobody said it when we have lavish Chinese New Year celebrations every freaking year. Only one race celebrates that. Nobody said anything about the Geylang Serai light-up, Deepavali light-up and all the crass Christmas decorations along the streets in town. This NDP is for everyone. No particular race, no particular religion and yet, it receives flak for celebrating the birthday of a nation?
Come on.
Look at the participants. I'm sure many of them did not want to be there but they did it anyway. Some felt a sense of duty, some felt that this is a contribution back to the country, some were forced of course while some just wanted to have fun. Whatever it is, it is easier to comment and complain from our couches but these people deserve all the lavish celebrations after all the hard work they had put in. Honestly, out of all the festivals and celebrations in the country, National Day should be celebrated lavishly cause honestly, it goes beyond colours and religions.
Anyway, watching OMG now and well, the acts which caught my eyes were all local acts. So, yes, there's hope for all of us Singaporeans. We can be Kings of anything, man.

Sing a song for Singapore
Reporting NDP Live from my living room:

There goes the jets!
The NDP (the first half at least) is so familiar, yet so different. Familiar because the usual contingents are there, my NPCC cadets are there, the red, blue, green, purple, rainbow berets are there and the ministers and gang are all there. Different is the President does not go his GOH round, instead, he stands on the jeep and goes around the Padang instead. Another thing, the NDP Exco decides to allow the supporting contingents (who usually do not matter much haha) to actually march with dignity out of the field. Usually, after the Guards-of-Honour ceremoniously march out, the other contingents (NPCC, NCC, Red Cross, NTUC and the likes) are told to get the hell out as fast as they could and usually, that meant running like mad dogs in the dark, losing badges, buttons, shoes and tripping, losing a tooth along the way. It's so manic,it's actually quite fun.
Anyway, all right. Shall listen to Corinne May now. The non-synchronous sound of the telecast and the TV sound is pissing me off. But ah...in the spirit of National Day, I'll whine later.
P/S: Chiam See Tong has gotten really old. Man, I wish him well. I like that guy.

Engkal nadu
It's finally 9th of August 2010 and that means...the nation turns 45 years old today. Exactly a year ago, the sister, my two colleagues and myself were basking it out at Pulau Tioman...one of my most favourite places on earth. Due to several high sea dramas consecutively, we got home really really late and...sigh..I missed the NDP ceremonial telecast. I cannot recall when I've ever missed it apart from last year so this time, I am staying home.
Also, it's cause I just came home from Changi Village Hotel at 1300hrs. Meiling and I just stayed in...watched TV...and cracked our heads thinking of what to eat for lunch and dinner. I took a dip in their infinity pool...soaking in the glowing late afternoon sun and, ah, (in my sheer short-sightedness) plane-spotiing as those carriers flew over my head.
Of course it would have been stupendous if I was in love and there's a loved one beside me but...I try not to mope and wait all day for that time to arrive. Should it not come, I dont want to regret and wish that I had spend more time enjoying my existence.
Am waiting for the parade to start. Last year I was in Tioman...one of those rarest times I actually missed an NDP.
I have actually penned out a heartfelt entry about Singapore being my home no matter where I may roam but ..hah...this bloody phone erased it all away. So..next time.
All right it's starting.
Kawalan kehormatan, masuk baris!!

One less bell to answer
Right now, I am just lazing on my lush bed, surrounded by fluffy pillows in a small (but cosy) hotel room tucked in old but familiar Changi. After checking in, it was time to attack the Nasi Lemak and then...voila, here I am.
Am under the sheets now, watching There's Something About Mary. This is life but ..oh wait..I need to call the parents and tell them I'm not coming home today...or tomorrow.

Don't make me over
To all those who have broken and have been broken.
Pick yourselves up and continue your walk.
.................................
Don't make me over
Now that I'd do anything for you
Don't make me over
Now that you know how I adore you
Don't pick on the things I say, the things I do
Just love me with all my faults, that way that I love you
I'm begging you
Don't make me over
Now that I can't make it without you
Don't make me over
I wouldn't change one thing about you
Just take me inside your arms and hold me tight
And always be by my side, if I am wrong or right
I'm begging you
Don't make me over
Don't make me over
Now that you've got me at your command
Accept me for what I am
Accept me for the things that I do
Accept me for what I am
Accept me for the things that I do
Now that I'd do anything for you
Now that you know how I adore you
Just take me inside your arms and hold me tight

Penasaran
Urgh!
Fancy being pissed at the father for snatching the television while I was playing Wii. I am 30 for fuck sake...I think moving out is so imminent.
Fine, call me childish.
Wii is important, okay!
The weekend, though work has been untouched, has been productive - where pleasure is concerned, at least. Yesterday, I met Liah and Nani for some karaoke in town at 1100hrs (!!) and later at 1500hrs, Lauren joined us and we caught John Cusack in HOT TUB TIME MACHINE. Stupid show but hahaha...I am all stupid, man.
After a quick dinner, I left the group and joined some colleagues at some bar nearby. I just went to "show face" and meet Arowana's new gf. After 1.5hr of very idle chatting, I grabbed JLo and A-Go-Go and got the hell out. We walked to Borders and stayed there till 2330hrs before hitting home.
Today...ah today. It's an early start as I met Liah at 1100hrs and we headed to Kranji. She wanted to go to Ivy Singh-Lim's Bollywood Veggies (her freaking farm!) and after taking the Kranji Express shuttle service, we eventually got there at 1215hrs.
As we were hungry, we went straight to the restaurant, called Poison Ivy. According to Ivy, the food comes from halal-sources but cause they serve alcohol ("poison", she says), they dont have the halal certification.
Anyway, it was a nice feeling, eating in the greenery. We had sweet potato leaves (I love that like Popeye adores spinach), fried chicken drumlets, papaya salad (yum!) and an egg-and-tofu dish. we had fresh aloe vera juice too. After stuffing ourselves silly, we still attempted their signature 'kuih koswi', 'kuih bingka' and their banana cake. Well, we didnt know when we would be there again, right?
Right.
Next week probably hahaha.
So yeah it was about 1430hrs after we finished. Yes, it was a nice, long lunch. The shuttle service just left and the next one would only be there an hour later so we checked out Ivy's sprawling farm and took photos in the scorching sun before getting on the 1530hr-shuttle.
Oh! I bought a comb of 'Praying Hand' bananas for $5 there. I didnt name them. It's really what the farm calls them.
So yeah. That's the weekend for you. It's my second trip to Kranji in freaking 2 weeks, man. Last week, together with some old students (I should call them as my friends now), we went to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve last Saturday afternoon for some muddy hike adventure. That place, hampered only by geographical distance, was fan-tastic!
I love the outdoors...what to do?
:)
P/S: Am still pissed off at the father.

Get outta my way
I am tired.
I didnt really enjoy the HK trip cause I was pre-occupied with work. I had nightmares of the boss when I was there even. I was sick when I flew over and I didnt get well when I came home. Oh well.
The brain has shut down when work-related thoughts and activities cropped up.and so I think it's time. Almost.
On a lighter note, INCEPTION and DESPICABLE ME were awesome!!

Mama say
I am back and my TMJ disorder is acting up on me again. Either that, I could be having some really aching wisdom tooth experience. I suspect the former. The dull ache in the mouth, jaw, ear, neck and head is really something.
Anyway, all these can be signs of stress. I realise how much I am beginning to dread going to office. It gives me sleepless nights, anger, anxiety and the rewards are no longer as satisfying.
It's enough.
I am tired.
P/S: World Cup finals tonight. Not an avid fan of Holland or Spain but I'm banking on Holland to win. This will be homage to ... ahem ... the Dutch bloodline in me. Darah kompeni mengalir di Betawi.

Bionic
Good morning, ya'll.
Had a rough day at work yesterday, no thanks to the Gulag. Apparently someone emailed Gulag saying I uploaded unprofessional pictures of the collegue. I was like...WTF? The person was crazy. The complainant also mentioned something about me plagiarising or using the pictures without permission.
WTF.
In the first place, those were my pictures, taken by me, of my colleagues, who were posing (nothing sexual or whatsoever, mind you) for me. The two pictures were of Ewok sitting on her chair. It may look like she was sleeping but she was just posing. Plus, even if she were sleeping, so what? There was no indication that it was in a specific work place. The other one was of her posing with a university signboard. Is that plagiarising? If that's the case, tourists uploading pictures of places of interest on their Facebook accounts should be charged too. What the fuck...these pictures are not meant for commercial purposes anyway.
So to this person...I know your name...fuck you. Apparently, your education failed to teach you what's plagiarism and most importantly, what's not your business should not be made into one. So please, eat shit and die.
Oh Gulag, fuck you too.
Woo-sah.
Got home, tired like crazy and fell asleep at about midnight. Wanted to take a nap before catching the Germs-Spain match. Overslept and only woke up during half time. Could barely stay up for the rest of the match but anyway, unbelievable. Germany, though they were okay, were not as capable as they were with Argentina and England. Maybe, the Spaniards really marked these people. Either that, the destroyer who was Mueller was not around to create more havoc. Whatever it is, Espana managed to move on and this Monday morning at an unearthly hour, they will meet the Dutch Ladies of the Netherlands in the final. Germs on the other hand, will meet Uruguay for third place. I hope Uruguay can slay those frankfurters. I'm never a fan.
Matthaus, Voeller, Beckenbauer aside of course.
Yaaaaawn.
OKay it's 0650hrs. Need to shower and hit the roads to the airport. I'll be here.

Yeah lah... Hong Kong again.
What to do, my boyfriend is there.
Right. Kid.
Actually, I'm there to study Wing Chun
Like Bruce Lee :)
Hope you have a nice day, weekend, whatever. Will be back on Sunday afternoon.
P/S: Gulag, I hope you get knock down while you're crossing the road.

Sleep of the just
Hey,
I am still alive.
Last week had been crazy - going hospital to and fro, marking assignments, meetings, World Cup, while trying to squeeze in some a little joy because all of us had a pay increment (no matter how little). Didnt get promoted this time round but it's okay. Next time. Plus, I think I didnt well enough.
Heck.
We're never good enough here.
The father is okay now though the doctors couldnt fathom what was the cause of his high fever. Maybe he had consumed something which didnt go down well on Saturday. What has been happening...hmmm...ah my dear Argentina are out of the World Cup. Bloody shit. Did you see the match? The Germans ...they were on crack, lah! That bloody Mueller wow..he's a freaking blitzkrieg there.
So now, there are only 4 - Espana, Germany, Holland and Uruguay. I am neither a fan of the Spanish nor the German team so of course my preference would like in either Holland or Uruguay. It's a pity that these 2 have to fight each other tonight. Sad to see either one of them not progressing but oh well, my head says that Germany will win this war. Ja ja ja. this might be their year. Simply wunderbar, Heidi Klum...Inglorious basterds.
Okay. The brain has gone way off.
I am actually not feeling well.
Think lack of sleep has finally sunk in.
This Thursday, I will be off to Hong Kong for a little rest. I hope I get rest. Sometimes I wonder what am I thinking? People dont go overseas to rest, they go overseas to get even more tired out. There hasnt been a vacation where I come home feeling like I have been physically rejuvenated. Mentally and spiritually yes, but never physically. Flight travels seem to do that to you, yeah? All those time you spent lazing in Perth, Siem Reap, Kashmir, New York and Manchester...gone just when you step into the plane for your journey home.
Where was I?
Ah, Hong Kong.
Yes, I plan to get me some rest but I dont think Lauren and Pam (her cousin) would just want to vegetate. For sure they might want to roam around and stuff. Let's see. If it needs to be, I have to do the 'break-away' thing. I just want to sleep. Please?
The new school term started yesterday and as expected, I have two Business classes to teach. The first session was yesterday in the afternoon...drained the bejeezus out of me. Stayed late, had late dinner, got home late, feeling the pits and for some strange reasons, I felt a really strong need to scrub my bathroom floor at midnight. Was at it for one hour and then I cleared my room, my bed and my wardrobe. By the time I was done, it was almost 0400hrs.
And 5 hours later, I was at work. Natural to say, I am currently extremely extremely slee..zzzzzzzz.
