Until then, you guys have a Happy New Year. May 2006 be a more successful one...more prosperity and better job prospects.

Busy Working day finale...

Wow…had a busy morning today, the last working day of the year. I was busy helping the Science department with their project…writing the answers to all the chemicals equations and stuff. I cant believe I can still remember some O Level rubbish. The Open Market Team’s submission deadline is today. True to human nature, everything is pushed to the very last minute. Some editors stayed till 0500hrs this morning trying to finish up some projects left by other editors who went on leave. Lord saves workaholics.

Anyway, just want to whine about all gorgeous men are either married or gay.

Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite . Married. To an 18-year-old.

Urgh.

Anyway…

This is going to be my last entry for the year and I am kind of pissed that it’s not going to be spectacular. It’s not going to be spectacular because..damn..my life isn’t spectacular.

Going on TV...

Got a call that on January 8, Ting and I are supposed to be down for a TV recording, introducing ourselves for the game show. Am I even making sense here?

Shit.
Where am I gonna hide these 2 big ugly teeth?

Wonder if they let me do a Russell Lee.

Should I stay or should I go

Am obsessively listening to Fall Out Boy’s Dance Dance. I cant wait for tomorrow…when I’ll be clubbing again. Yoohoo!

Big news today. The company has been bought over by Marshall Cavendish (formerly known as Times) and probably there will be retrenchments.

Good.

I want to get out.

It's still not enough!

This is my December
This is my time of the year
This is my December
This is all so clear

This is my December
This is my snow covered home
This is my December
This is me alone

And I
Just wish that I didn’t feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said
To make you feel like that
And I
Just wish that I didn’t feel
Like there was something I missed
And I
Take back all the things I said to you

And I give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to
Give it all away
To have someone to come home to

This is my December

These are my snow covered dreams
This is me pretending
This is all I need
- My December, Linkin Park

December ends with a bit of gloom…especially after knowing that next pay wont be given out earlier (standard CNY fare). And therefore, my birthday is a bit affected. Note to self: Next time, find a job that pays just before birthday. And not only that, with the unexpected death, kenduri, Hari Raya Haji and birthdays, how am I gonna get the BSB ticket now?

Babe, can wait until my next payday? Which I think is a day before the concert?

......

I was thinking of slaughtering a cow/sheep/goat next month for the festivity. But nah…since Hari Raya Haji comes twice next year, maybe, I can buy the beast next December. Insya Allah. Hopefully, I am working in a better place then.

Back to my December.
Same time next week, we are into the new year already. Ask yourself now. Has 2005 been good to you?

Has it been good to me?
Yes.
Despite its nasty turbulences.
Despite being dateless for a complete year.
Despite being in the same job.
Despite earning the same amount as I had when I graduated…with a diploma.

I have a big share in being bitter this year. After all, many things passed me by because I am such a lazy idiot. However, I am thankful, too, for many things. This year, I did do/get many “1st –time”s:

- signed up a gym membership
- stayed in a totally crummy budget hotel outside Singapore which resembled a 4x4 prison cell
- got chicken pox and was extremely sick and miserable
- flew for 15 hours
- took Thai Airlines to Britain
- whirled around London in a day
- visited Trafalgar Square on Labour Day (aptly soaking in the ideals of heroism, freedom)

- visited Old Trafford in Manchester
- watched a “LIVE” EPL game
- endured being penniless a full month
- went on a Tioman holiday with a bunch of misfits colleagues
- stayed a night at Changi village Hotel…with 4 partners friends coming one after another
- completed the Beginner’s level of the silly Dance Dance Revolution

- developed a crush on a 16-year-old
- attended kiong’s wedding …the 1st out of all my good friends
- hiked to MacRitchie’s treetop walk
- got chided by my guy friends (who are all younger than me) for being single
- fell in love with a girl…her name’s Giselle Bundchen
- watched a performance at the Esplanade Theatre (STOMP!!)
- joined an alumni
- gave out more money during Hari Raya
- worked on the second day of Hari Raya
- ate in a restaurant/café alone
- took budget airlines (Air Asia)
- visited Sabah in Borneo, the third largest island in the world
- had a mud bath in a mud pool

Wow. I’ve done quite a lot this year.

You know, in every thing that we’ve done wrong, we must have done something right.

Huh?

That's the way uh huh uh huh

Ting says now, for the bloody game show, we have to know Serie A also. Fucker. Bloody fucker. Why not add in Bundesliga, La Liga, Liga Perdana, J-League ..heck, S-League?

Bloody sotong kering!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My weekend….my weekend was crazy. And it totally drained my pocket – right from the funeral on Thursday to the slow journey back home on Sunday morning. Momo-ed my Friday night Saturday morning away before reaching home at 0630hrs. I was up by noon and at 1700hrs later, I was out again.

I brought Sharinah (who was depressed..depressed..depressed. The whole world is freaking depressed right now. Who says Christmas is a season of joy? Suck my toe!) and Liah out to Little India. No way in hell am I gonna hit town on Christmas Eve ( I have learnt to eat my words). So I took them to a little pampering session..mama-style. Both of them did their virgin face-threading with much hoo-ha. Liah had difficulty following the beautician’s instructions (it’s not the accent. She’s just plain silly!) and Sharinah was deemed “too hairy”. I think the beautician must have thought that my dear friend was this close to growing a beard. Me? I just did a simple, fuss-free eyebrow threading. Because I am too clueless and clumsy to trim them myself.

After the girls squirmed in pain, it was time for some gastronomic action. Dinner, to be more specific. Brought them to this little restaurant beside Mustafa Centre and I had chappatis (I love them!), Liah had cheese naans (bloody modernist!) and Sharinah had her masala thosai.

After a short walk-around at Mustafa Centre, Clara sms-ed me asking if we were interested for a meet-up. Rather, she wanted to go drinking. Fine…we arranged to meet at 2100hrs in ..gasp..town. Actually she wanted to go Scarlet but Liah somehow suggested Emerald Hill (I let them decide..they were the ones drinking).

We reached Dhoby Ghaut at 1900hrs and thinking it was still early, we decided to walk down to Hyatt and have Haagen Dazs ice cream. BAD MOVE. The walk was terrible. The crowd was terrible. It killed my mood and it took us an hour to get to our destination. And once there, the staff said they have no fondue.

What?
No fondue?
Fucking hell!

We wanted this. But instead, I got Chocolate Decadence – lots and lots of chocolate… until I almost turned brown meself.

At 2100hrs, Clara smsed and told us that she was still at home. Oh yeah still at home. The crowds were getting into Liah and I and we were beginning to get snappy. We decided to cancel it because one thing, we didn’t want to stay beyond midnight because we were tired. I don’t think Clara wanted to come at 2200hrs only to go home 2 hours later right? She did mention that she would take 30 minutes to come to town…but, hah, we didn’t really buy it.

Then I felt quilty. I called her to say that “hey we can still meet up. Maybe we hang around Singapore river…you buy your drinks and we just sit and chat.” But the woman didn’t want to answer our calls. Then she shot me this sms:

Actually quite sad. I’m all dressed up. Next time we must hav mutual understanding. How late we are staying out…Last nite also head home. Tonite stay home. :(

One thing. We didn’t know you have X’mas countdown-ing in mind. You know me. I don’t give a hoot about Xmas so I was a bit pissed you brought that up. And…what were you doing at home at 9 anyway? We rushed to town, braved the crowd and you were still at home? Okay, I guess it was our fault. We were the ones who agreed to meet.

But how could I reject?

We should have told you that 1) we were tired from the clubbing 2) we didn’t want to go to town and 3) we didn’t want to stay beyond midnight right from the moment you asked us if we were free. My bad. Next time, I’ll just do that.

But that rubbish aside, I am sorry that we couldn’t meet up last Saturday. I am sorry that you have to “countdown” alone at home. But, sincerely, I am looking forward to the Westin stay this weekend. No..it’s not about the bath tub, the view, the air con, the fluffy bed. It’s all about meeting up. 60% of it. Heh.

Anyway, Sunday I went to Sound Of Music Ministry of Sound with Dear, B, IT, Sharinah and her friend, Lena. SMOOVE was funky. Pity the place was way too small and the crowd… man, it’s like entering a Jay Chou’s concert. So many little kids who thought they were so street! Bitch, puh-leeze!

We then headed to the main floor…the house/dance/techno/etc room. Okay…it’s just like Zouk..BUT with more techno. I got heady! Then we entered a pristine place…like heaven. It’s called PURE…super bright, super white, super chic. Pity..full house. But then again, what was I expecting? Then we found ourselves at 54 … retro, I like!

What?
Mona likes retro?

Before you shout “It’s a blasphemy!” let me point out that this room is DIFFERENT from Mambo nights @ Zouk/DBL O ..and any other “letro” bars. This one plays REALLY disco music. Think Gloria Gaynor, Village People, Michael Jackson, La Belle, Chic, KC and the Sunshine Band, Barry White…basically, my kind of disco. Again pity. I seemed to be the only one lapping up such vintage beauties. Oooh it’s very That 70s Show!

Well…I’m a 70s’ kid at heart.

After doing the hustle, I had to rest. Time check 0230hrs…only???? What a disappointment. That’s MOS for me. a bit too much hype and a little disappointment…especially from SMOOVE. True you get 4 clubs for the price of one…but, I think it’s all fake. Phuture/Momo can outdo Smoove anytime and main floor…Zouk wins. No fight.

If I were to go back, it’s because of the neon-coloured magical retro disco-duck of a dancefloor at 54.

And also to find out who own the freaking Lamborghinis parked haphazardly outside the bloody entrance.

Santa Klutz

Okay. It’s almost 6pm and I’ve eaten almost a dozen chocolates courtesy of cheery colleagues. A quick peek at my dustbin and an amazing number of candy wrappers laid gallantly.

Something in my throat is swelling up, my neck is getting stiff and I am getting too sleepy. I cant smell and my body is aching.

Anyway...

To my celebrating blogders, have you a merry Christmas and an excellent weekend.

I know I should be resting and reading up on EPL this weekend. However, haha, let’s see what each day brings…one at a time.

Tonight, I know I should be resting…but well, you know where I’m going to be.

So, have a happy holidays and spare some chocs for me, will you?

Before I go, enjoy this…my favourite children’s xmas song…

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus?
Donde esta Santa Claus?
And the toys that he will leaveI look for him because it's a Christmas Eve

I know that I should be sleeping
But maybe he's not far away
Out of the window I'm peeping
Hoping to see him in his sleigh

I hope he won't forget to clack his castanet
And to his reindeer, say
"Oh Pancho, Oh! Vixen, Oh! Pedro, Oh! Blitzen,"
Ole! Ole! Ole! Cha cha cha!

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus?
Oh! Where is Santa Claus?
It's Christmas Eve

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus?
I look for him because it's Christmas Eve

I know that I should be sleeping
But maybe he's not far away
Out of the window I'm peeping
Hoping to see him in sleigh

I hope he won't forget to crack his castanet
And to his reindeer, say
"Oh Pancho, Oh! Vixen, Oh! Pedro, Oh! Blitzen,"
Ole! Ole! Ole! Cha cha cha!

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus?
Oh! Where is Santa Claus?
It's Christmas Eve

See you next Tuesday, guys.

The death of a party

I watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe last night with Lauren, Nani and Ismail. I loved the show…except the beginning was a little draggy. Get to the fight scene already!

…..

My cousin (technically, he’s my cousin’s hubby but we all love him so much to care) dropped dead this morning. Literally. He was at his food stall in Geylang Bahru, serving breakfast to his customers when suddenly, he collapsed. And died. Just like that.

But then again…

He had a history of chronic gout, strokes and maybe some other heart problems. However, at this moment, the cause of his death is still unknown. My cousin was a generous man. He was arguably the better-off one in the family. He used to stay in a maisonette in Kembangan, and then moved to three-storey gigantic terrace house in Kembangan also before coming to his current residence…a “modest” 4-room flat in Geylang Bahru (near the longkang) because he bought a food stall nearby and he wanted to be close to his relatives. I have like a gazillion relatives living in Geylang Bahru.

Anyway, this cousin was so affable. Everyone loved him even though he was an outsider who was married into the family. His birthday parties (he loved to organise parties for the little cousins/nephews/nieces) were out of the world and he always had the best food, the best snacks and the best candies. I remember when I was in primary school and very poor, my cousin and wife “hired” (in a pleasant sense) the mother to clean their house once or twice the week. I would follow and help to do laundry and there would be treats for me in the fridge and stuff.

This cousin has a food stall in Haig Road. You know the corner stall at S11? He owns that but he lets his brother-in-law runs it. He also has a cafĂ© in MacPherson CC. He was a picture of creativity…innovation … determination. He was there to send me off when I went away to Perth. He wanted his daughter to grow up and study just like me.

And I wanted to be successful. Just like him.

May God bless your soul.
May He look after your wife (Kak Imah) and Sarah and Faris well.
May you rest in peace.

*sniff*

I took a half day leave to go visit my cousin (the wife). But when the mother and I got there, the body was still not at home. After staying for about 30 minutes, I decided to leave. It was all too depressing and well, I didn’t have anything to do. Stupid period stopped me from praying and reading verses of the Quran. So I made my way back to work. Will have to take unpaid (no more leave days already) leave tomorrow…half day.

Guys….

Stay healthy. Please. It’s true that death can come anytime and anywhere…but being healthy sure helps to stay alive. I am writing this as I am gorging some chocs. The irony. But I am upset. Let me eat, can?

And it’s because this dead one gave me my best chocolate moments many years back. There was a spread of choc candies on his table and like Charlie in the chocolate factory, I was in awe. Then I became Augustus Gloop and ate. I got my first nosebleed on my way home..totally soaked my blouse.

He will definitely be missed.
Especially on Hari Rayas, in birthday parties, family retreats, gatherings, weddings.
I will miss him coming over to my house and parking himself in the kitchen and flirting with all the mak ciks.

Bless you.

P/S: The next “major” family event, he said, would br my (forever) impending wedding. Hah. I cant believe we would all gather at his funeral tomorrow instead.

Bleeding emo

I swear it’s just the time of the month.
It has to be.

Baby don't you want me to go
So honey, why don't you beg me to stay
For love, and talk the way we used to talk
Till we both know what we've lost
Never say the words we did before
When it was over

Love ain't here anymore
Love ain't here anymore
It's gone away, to a town called yesterday
Love ain't here anymore

Listen, oh listen, I don't wanna let go
So maybe we can change the way we feel
For love, and open up the way we did before
Now is the right time
And I'm sure you'd never say the words you did before
Until it was over

Love ain't here anymore
Love ain't here anymore
It's gone away, to a town called yesterday
Love ain't here anymore

And when I find a place for me to keep my sweet love
Then I will leave it there forever more, yeah
And when I find someone to share I'll never give up
I will hold you and believe that this life leads to more

Love ain't here anymore
Love ain't here anymore
It's gone away, to a town called yesterday
Love ain't here anymore
- Love Ain’t Here Anymore, Take That

I am not petty but…it’s lonely being a scarecrow.

Gah!

You Have a Choleric Temperament

You are a person of great enthusiasm - easily excited by many things. Unsatisfied by the ordinary, you are reaching for an epic, extraordinary life.

You want the best. The best life. The best love. The best reputation. You posses a sharp and keen intellect. Your mind is your primary weapon.

Strong willed, nothing can keep you down. Your energy can break down any wall. You're an instantly passionate person - and this passion gives you an intoxicating power over others.

At your worst, you are a narcissist. Full of yourself and even proud of your faults. Stubborn and opinionated, you know what you think is right. End of discussion. A bit of a misanthrope, you often see others as weak, ignorant, and inferior.

Oh well.
Am going to watch The Chronicles of Narnia later.

Musical boobs

I manage to secure an Oasis ticket. Who cares if it's by "underhand" and down right shameless? I am not sure if I can get the $160 one but i can almost smell the $90++ ticket.

And again...so what if I go on my own?

Hopefully Liam will throw his tambourine and I'll be agile enough to jump and get it. Right.

We were talking about breasts just now over lunch. Daffy Duck mentioned something about having boyfriends/husbands around to help  in enlarging breasts.  If this doesnt make sense, never mind. i think breasts enlarged (only slightly) when they are stimulated. I guess that's how the theory come about. But you are not stimulated 24 hours, 7 days a week. Right? Therefore, that notion is void.

Objection overruled.

No Kidney, Fuckers

Did you read about the NKF latest story? fucking chee bye right? If you are sick (and perhaps, dying), how can a fucking 10c save you?

The father mentioned retiring and stuff. And then he turned around and asked the brother something.

Father: When are you getting married?
Brother: See how...2 more years. 3.
Me: WHAT?????? 2 more years? Cannot lah..You're still young!
Brother: What, I'll be 26 by then. In 3 years' time I'll be 27!
Me: That's still too young. 30 is a nice age for guys to get married. How old is your girlfriend?
Brother: 22 this year.
Me: 24 is still a young age to get married... (voice trailing off)

You good, ah!

…………………………………

The father didn’t even ask me that. It was like he knew I was (desperately) single. But what if I wasn’t? Right. Who was I kidding? So I picked up the phone and whined to my bitches. It didn’t help I was PMS-ing. Ultra depressing. I am so gonna die alone.

Alone. Empty house.

Okay. Snap out of it, woman.

*SNAP*

The sister got her N Levels result yesterday. Disappointing. She got 11 and couldn’t take O Levels. But the silver lining was that she got 3 for Maths. The sister was so ecstatic. She didn’t think she could even pass. Maths was her weaker subject and it turned out ‘3’ was her best grade. I was happy for her passing Maths and Humanities but I was a bit disappointed overall. I tried to think that you don’t need O Levels to survive…but hard lah! And best, her favourite subject, her stupid ART…got a ‘4’!

Yeah..she was extremely disappointed in her ART grade. I guess, over confidence always killed the Wahab sisters (in my case, it was Literature). Girl, next time, draw beautiful things that shallow, ordinary humans can understand. What’s the point of immersing yourself in gothic art when people don’t know that you are seeing life from the eyes of gargoyles???

I was so adamant in pushing her to an art school. I could see she wanted to. But, private institutions (like Orita. Sinclair …uber cool bohemian school at Pahang Street) are damn expensive and we all cant afford that.

So last night, at the dining table, the sister and I were discussing about the next best thing. We settled (yeah I have a big part in her life and she knows it and she cant escape that) on New Digital Media course at either Bedok or AMK ITE, God, please let her get that. The course will teach her all about 2D / 3D graphics, animations, pre-press rubbish and various other arty stuff.

Sis: Go this course, lah.
Me: You better do well. Then hopefully you can go to a polytechnic after that.
Sis: Can I go NAFA?
Me: Idiot..of course you can. Build your portfolio first.

Actually, the sister doesn’t really 100% like doing this. She loves painting, traditional conceptualising and renaissance/baroque/gothic stuff. But at a freshly 17 (just out from the oven!), she recently got a rude jolt. “What can I do if I want to pursue painting? What can I be?”

And with that, she had to embrace modern graphics and visual hoo-ha.

My sister.

Okay, pesky family member aside….

You’re the devil in me I brought in from the cold
You said your body was young but your mind was very old
You comin' on strong and I like the way
The visions we had are fading away
You're part of the life I've never had
I'll tell you now it's just too bad
I'll tell you now it's just too bad
– Chemical Brothers feat. Noel Gallagher

Did I say Oasis are coming to town in Feb?
I did?
I say it again.
OASIS are coming for a concert!

First, there was this in 1994:

The brother bought it when he was 13. I thought, "Who are these mad buggers?"

Then they hit BIG time with this in 1995:

We got the cassette and I later bought it for $10 in Perth. This album is one of UK’s top albums of all times.

In 1997, they began to scare the fans a little with a slight underdog:

Be Here Now. The brother and I listened and played on the guitars to many songs in here. I was on lead, brother was backing, the sister was whacking the pillows pretending they were drums.

This B-side compilation came out in 1998:

We were too “poor” to buy The Masterplan. We kind of forgot about it because we did have some of the songs listed on some singles. Maybe I can get my buddies to buy this for me? Sheesh. This is not even a hint.

Then it came in 2000. A major disappointment:

Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants is the only album we don’t want to have. Nuff’ said.

But the 2000 year was redeemed by a flash of ‘live’ brilliance.

My friends from Sony presented me Familiar To Milions…knowing I was such an Oasis sucker. Listening to Live Forever “live” made my knees weak for months.

Oasis bounced back to basic in 2002:

I bought Heathen Chemistry just before I left for Perth to study. Not as good as the first 3 but definitely better than Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants!

2005…WOW. What a comeback!

Ignore Lyla. That sucks. But the rest of the album breeds pure gem. 3rd best album definitely.

I cant wait

MONA’S TOP OASIS ALBUM
1 (What’s The Story) Morning Glory
2 Definitely Maybe
3 Don’t Believe The Truth

MONA’S TOP OASIS SINGLE
1 Live Forever
2 Don’t Look Back In Anger
3 Slide Away

I am going MAD. Gonna take out my Oasis sweater tonight and sleep in it. My red Oasis Tshirt, which I wear to bed every other night, has holes in it…so I figure, I cant wear that the the concert, can i? Maybe I wear the Adidas top which Liam wore in his concert back in Wembley. Maybe I can take out the broken guitar in the storeroom, fix it and have Noel autograph it. I want to die. I am shaking with excitement.

Maybe my parents can buy the concert ticket for my birthday? Dammit. I’ll be a very very good girl these 2 months.

Really?

But but but…I have plans to club the coming weekend away. Never mind. I’ll get the ticket myself. Humph.

Anyway…

Blogders, presenting (for the umpteenth time) Mona’s anthem. You don’t know how I live (now that you want to know but…) until you hear me belt this in your face.

Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breathe
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows
I just want to fly
Lately did you ever feel the pain
In the morning rain
As it soaks it to the bone

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I want to be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever
We're gonna live forever
Gonna live forever
Live forever
Forever

Sabah Trip Day 4 & 5 - 12 -13 Dec

0900hrs Pulau Tiga

… pockets running on empty. I have to especially thank my life savers here. Thank God for friends.

We woke up to a rainy morning. The disappointment on Mail’s face was priceless, I tell you. However, thank God, it began to lessen. After breakfast, we went to the Snake Island. It cost us RM20 each and the boat ride took about 15 minutes. The goddamn island was full of snakes and our lazy guide, Eddie, only showed us 2.

After Snake Island, we went to this sandy area called the Sand Spit (or something like that). It's just a strip of sand..duh. Ismail wanted to go there because, if I am not wrong, Survivor had an immunity challenge there. Again, whatever. Anyway, though it was just sand, more sand and more sand, we managed quite a few shots.

Cam whores.

In our attempt to look stranded and lost, we looked more like beached whales instead.

Hmm..Enlighten me, guys.
Do you take these shots at every beach? What is the difference?

Unlike the guys who were just posing with the sea as a back drop, Farhana and I were pretending (and failed miserably) that we were Pammy Anderson and Carmen Elektra.

Mail found a stick-like object and fantasised being the sole survivor of a non-existing game. Tsk tsk tsk.

Hmm.

Then we saw the enemies from another tribe.

Quick, duck!

After about 20 minutes at the sandy strip, we boarded the boat (while climbing, my precious Havaianas slipped out and almost floated away. Thank God Lazy Eddie caught it). We then headed to another beach.

We visited Pagong-Pagong Beach ...i think that's where one of the tribes stayed. Bla bla bla. As you can see, only Ismail was interested. Hahahaha. We didn’t go down to the beach because … surprise, surprise … Lazy Eddie didnt want to. Actually he said the beach was too shallow. We then went to Tagi Beach ..the beach where the tribes merged. Same story. We didn’t get down. Not that most of us wanted to lah, haha, since there was nothing spectacular about it.

So we made our way back to the resort. It was beginning to drizzle again. Anyway, back on land, we decided to check out this place where the Tribal Council was held.

The Tribal Council area was a short walk away from our chalets. The hut had collapsed and all that's left was just a pile of mess ... and oh, many mosquitoes. Here’s a trivia, apparently the resort was made BEFORE the Survivor show. The Tribal Council area was so near the chalets I began to suspect that the contestants slept there instead.

Vote me off! Vote me off!

On second thought, vote them off.

We got back to our rooms, did a bit of packing and then all of us gathered in my room to play Bluff again. At 1230, we walked to the eating area…feeling super-duper hungry. But, AIYAH, the food was not ready. So we hung out at the Sukau Room..aka the TV room.

And finally, our last meal on Pulau Tiga…which happened to be the best meal I had in Sabah. Most probably because I was damn famished.

After lunch, the guys went back to their rooms earlier while Farhana and I stayed back a while to just chat. Then at 1315hrs, we went back, showered, packed and by 1400hrs, we were both standing outside the chalets, waiting for the guys.

Time check: 1430hrs. It was time to leave Pulau Tiga and head back to Kuala Penyu Ferry Terminal, then a cab ride back to Kota Kinabalu. When we reached mainland, Mr Amian (the cabby) was already waiting for us eagerly. Strange. I felt happy to see him. I guess, it’s always nice to have someone waiting for you whenever you go on a trip…yeah, that kind of feeling, I guess.

The ride back to town was very very scenic. I sat in front while the rest were dead at the back seat. I tried to stay awake because Mr Amian took us on a different route (into the damn rural villages) and I wanted to see everything outside. Besides, I felt quite bad to fall asleep. I could imagine how lonely the cabby would feel. So I chatted with him…however, occasionally, I did fall asleep for bouts of 5 minutes.

We reached Kota Kinabalu at about 1700ish and Mr Amian said he would pick us up in 2 hours’ time to fetch us to the airport. So we lugged our bags out (we didn’t dare to leave them on the cab) and went for a Kenny Rogers dinner with whatever Ringgit we had left at the Centre Point Shopping Centre. Then Farhana received an sms telling her that our Air Asia flight had been delayed..to 1230am!

I called the cabby driver and we arranged to have him pick us up at 2200hrs instead. Then, we walked around, shopped a little (it’s damn hard when all of us were broke) before we gave up and drank coffee instead. At around 2100hrs, we were chased out of the building because it was closing time. So we hesitantly walked out in search of another lepak corner.

Weird.
There wasn’t much lepak space outside.
Ah…the irony.

We walked over to Wisma Sabah Shopping Centre (or was it Wisma Kinabalu…we were there on the 2nd day too) and decided to chill at the entertainment area, where there were many karaoke boxes. We had about 45 minutes in our hands and Nazmi, Farhana and I were contemplating whether we should drop in for a song or two. Suddenly, Nazmi dashed to the counter to change some money for tokens and dashed into a karaoke booth. Farhana and I joined in. I think we managed 4-5 songs before rushing down at 2205hrs to meet the cabby.

Hahaha..the four of us were running in a shopping centre, carrying big bags. It must have been quite a scene.

The ride to the airport was only 10 minutes and it cost us RM15. however, we decided to give Mr Amian RM5 more. He was nice to us, lah. I have to thank myself for being so sociable and chatty with him. I talked to him in a Borneo-esque Indon accent and even bluffed him that my grandpa was from Kalimantan Borneo (He’s not. He’s from Central Java!) just to make more conversations. I hope he didn’t find me TOO talkative.

We reached the dodgy Terminal 2 of the KKIA way too early. The place was crowded and we had no place to sit so we literally sat on a drain…before being chased by the mozzies. Then we found a corner and haha, we took out the UNO cards and played Bluff.

Damn, I looked pregnant!

At about 2345hrs, we managed to check in. In her kiasu attempt, Farhana made us queue in front of the door and we almost took the wrong flight to *gasp* Kuala bloody Lumpur!!! I couldn’t make out whether to laugh or to cry..but hahaha, it certainly kept me awake.

The wait was super long. When the KL-bound crowd flew off, the hall was filled with Senai-bound ones, all looking dead sleepy.

Time check: Midnight, 13 December 2005

There was still no news about our flight. At about 0015, we were made to queue. 10 minutes into the queuing, we were still in the same place. Damn, I was getting bored and sleepy.

At 1245hrs, we finally boarded the plane. Farhana and I sat together and somehow, we didn’t feel quite well. I guess it was fatigue seeping in. Upon takeoff, we were both looking for barf bags but we couldn’t find any. Since I was seated at the emergency exit, I had a bigger leg room. I was prepared to puke there already. But thank God, we managed to control the gunk and tried to sleep it off instead.

At about 0230hrs, I was jolted by shaky motions of the plane. We should be above Johor at that time. The weather was extremely bad and we were made to put on our seat belts and stuff.

Honestly, I thought it was lovely. The conditions outside..the thunders and multiple lightnings.

At around 0300hrs, we finally reached Senai Airport. From there, we got onto a cab (RM60 inclusive of midnight charge) which brought us nearer to JB. There, we transferred into a private car which sent us to Bukit Batok and then Ang Mo Kio. It cost us S60…but we didn’t have Sing dollars (there was no ATM) and so we paid him RM140-150.

We couldn’t be bothered by the fact that we were paying him more. We just wanted to get home. Nazmi and Farhana alighted at AMK MRT with me. Nazmi took cab back to Tampines while Farhana had her dad pick her up.

It was almost close to 0500hrs when I finally reached my door. I went to my room and saw 2 visiting cousins sleeping on my bed. ARGGGHHHHHH! I grabbed my pillows, went to the living room (thank God the brother was on night shift) and found a sleeping space. I didn’t wash my feet, my face or change my undies and then I concuseed.

Next wake up time: 2000hrs.

15 hours of sleep and an urgent leave day. I did drift in and out for a few times around noon to barely answer some concerned friends’ smses. But wow…15 hours of sleep. Champion!

With that….and the unenviable task of unpacking which the father had done at the end of my 15hr slumber .. my 2005 travelling year ended.

Amen.
