Summertime

I am at Siem Reap's Old Market, eating lunch at Blue Pumpkin. Free wireless, weeeeeeeee!

...which is of course something that Nani doesnt understand haha.

Had a long day yesterday at the Ton Le Sap river. Today is just rest and relax day and tomorrow... Angkor Wat!

Okay done.

Bye bye bye

Less painful, but still bleeding.
Grrrrr.

I am at the airport, waiting for Nani. Alone...the father just called a cab and sent me to the void deck. Huu huu...one of those rare times the parents did not follow to the airport.

Okay. Nani's here.

P/s: okay fine. This is a meaningless entry. To kill time, can?

###

Love before time

Just done packing.
Took a damn long time.
Sheer lethargy.

Need to shower and get ready for airport. For the next 4 days, I will be here and here.

Be good, guys.

She's leaving home

I am losing blood. Eurgh.
Getting weak, we..ak, w..e..a..k.

Anyway, I am leaving for Cambodia in about 6 hours' time. Fllight is at 0600hrs...Jetstar. I know I need to pack but I can barely get myself off the couch.

Oh, before I forget:
HAPPY 29th BIRTHDAY LAUREN LEE!!

I am so glad that finally, someone else has turned 29. May it be a good year for us goats.

Got to pack.

###

Silent all these years

I am bending double, impaled by a stupid stomach cramp because it's the time of the you-know-what.

Life seems bleak and bloody at the moment.

Pennyroyal tea, anyone?

###

The joker

Slept through the match :(

Here's an effed-up riddle.

Question: What do my June 08 New York trip, my Dec 08 India trip and my Jan 09 Cambodia trip have in common?

Ans: Lots of sanitary pads and me bleeding to death.

###

My life would suck without you

I just got back from a funeral wake. Sombre as always. Duh, Ed.

Met Shortcake, Idaho, RiffRaff and Shaka Zulu in town at noon for lunch. This was in conjunction of my birthday and RiffRaff's impending marriage. Town was half dead and it was hard to find food. We all finally settled at Paragon's Tambuah Mas.

At 1500hrs, I then had to rush off to Cineleisure cause Nani was waiting. We caught DOUBT.

Personally, I didnt like the ending and I think the movie was overhyped because of its cast. The film started slow; understandable because it wanted to create a momentum and also, to introduce us into the suspicious priesthood world of the Roman Catholic church in the 60s. The middle was promising but the ending was just a lame duck. Some said the ending was supposed to create an uneasy "doubting" feeling among the audiences but man, it was more "frustration" on my part rather that "doubtful".

What's up with the part when Jimmy Hurley suddenly went berserk in class? Did he like...have a crush on Donald? Did Father Flynn keep the flowers to symbolise that he too was gay (hence, he could understand Donald)or because those flowers symbolise the kids he had messed with? Did the boy William London have anything to do with this? See, I'm not doubtful. I am just plain want-to-know.

Oh well.

Different strokes for different folks.

Lazy

The bedroom is in a total tsunami-swept mess. My bed is 3/4 covered by clothes, books and documents that I have resorted to voluntarily sleeping on the floor.

Then on the next day, I would get up with a totally stiff body. It's old age, I am sure.

Okay. Shall scoot to the sister's bed for she is on night shift. Tomorrow, I'll clear my clutter.

Or on Wednesday.

Or next week when I come home from Siem Reap.

Or maybe when I turn 30.

Leave VirginiaMolly alone

I am getting better on the guitar (wii).

Maybe, my life's frustrations are channeled well through creative expressions. I hope the neighbours felt the same way when I screamed into the microphone just now. It's a public holiday, ya'll. We all seek fun in our own perverted ways.

Had Lexie to play with me and we took turns taking the mic and the guitar.

Oh well.

Saturday had me watching Chandni Chowk to China in the afternoon with Meiling. Got home, rest a little...and then off I went again to meet CY2, Vinz and Adrian. CY2 brought me to Molly Malone's where I tried their seafood spaghetti marinara. Delish.

Adrian had fish and chips, CY2 had some duck dish while Vinz had goat cheese.

Ate and chatted.
Tried to take pics with my handphone but it sucked under low light.

Suddenly, one of the waiters came over with a box.
Ah, a cake maybe?
Cupcakes!
With a bloody Taj Mahal!

Thank you, guys. That was sweet. Very literally! CY2 managed to get a contact to do such cakes and well, I got my wish.

When I was standing in front of the Taj back in India recently, I actually wished to get a Taj Mahal cake for my birthday (as weird as that might sound) and hey, thanks guys for giving me this. The Taj here may not be perfect; in fact if you look closely, the 4 pillars on their own look kind of obscene, but seriously, who would have thought of such a thing?

Merci boucoup!

So we force-fed ourselves (8 cupcakes too many), Adrian gagged (cause he didnt have a sweet tooth) and made a whole big mess on the table. All in the name of good, PG fun of course.

Adrian also presented another gift which he had gotten for me during his recent trip to Barcelona. To continue what he gave me last year (a Czech 'Neved' football jersey), he gave me a Barcelona jersey this year.

All was well until I saw the name at the back of the jersey.

Like...What the fuck!

Of all people! It could have been Iniesta, Eto'o, Messi, Milito, Alves or Pinto but no...I had to have (urgh)Henry on the back. Now, I will use the jersey to wipe my feet.

Heh.
Kidding.

You know we love you, Adrian. Thanks for the gift again.

Anyway, we finally made our way out around 2230ish. Thanks people for the lovely meal, cakes and jersey and all.

Leave Molly alone!

We adjourned to Clarke Quay and while the night/morning away at China One. Got home at 0700hrs on Sunday, body very much aching. Hey, I'm no longer a spring chicken you know. I am losing the 'spring' ... just plain old (fried) chicken now.

Ho hum.

Anyway...some random pictures taken in class last Friday during the surprise party. Before the 'retarded' episode for sure.

Was in no mood to work so I walked around Raffles City and Funan to look for some stuff for my Cambodian trip. Got back to office and was in time to get an 'ang pow' from Mother Mary (my boss, lah).

Again, gong xi fa cai, minions.

Family portrait

The parents went to Simpang Bedok and of course, I went all 'attitude-ish' and refused to joIn. Call me being extremely childish at 29, but I am really upset that they totally ignored my birthday. Not when I always try to make a point to do a little something (no matter how small or insignificant, I guess) for each and everyone of them.

Not a birthday wish...not a nod.
Not a nothing.
And the mother just said we didnt care about her? O-kay. If you say so.

Fuck, whatever man. Since nobody cares, I am going to do it the best way I know how.

Anyway, I've got the freaking TV now that the old folks are not at home. That is a rare thing cause the hogger (aka the father) doesnt really care if you want to watch TV or not cause he just hogs it the whole fucking day.

Anyway, as I was saying... I shall go watch a DVD now.

Mamma mia.

...
...

Gong xi freaking cai, people.

Don't let me get me

To answer you, it's simple.

I dont have anything better to do and I dont have a family whom I can spend quality time with.

I am suspecting there's something medically wrong with life and I go to the theatres to connect with characters.

Afterall besides working and taking care of my own well being, what else do I have to do?

I need to get a potted plant.

Shall get myself another belated birthday gift: a bonsai plant.

P/S: Chandni Chowk to China, while draggy at times, was hilarious at most parts.

###

Too much too little too late

Just done anatomising.

Too sad.
Too much tears.
Too much hope.
Too much pride.
Too much guilt.
Too much insanity.
Too much stoicness.

I watched Bride Wars last night...and now I watched Grey's Anatomy. To make me cry on a beautiful Saturday morning is too cruel.

Chandi Chowk to the rescue. And then, I'll kill myself watching Doubt.

Insensitive

What a weird day.

The students gave me a belated birthday surprise...cake, food, a handbag and a card. It was all so sweet and peachy. Appreciated it a lot though my expression was stoned as always.

Then came the stinker weird.

PJ read a speech to the class telling them that I was someone who was in to social work and stuff. That sounded fishy. So I cut in:

Ed: You didnt adopt a child on my behalf, did you?
PJ: No no...

PJ continued. She mentioned that some of the students had signed me up for this programme with the Society for the Physically Handicapped where I could be a "big sister" to a "special child". PJ said that today, the child would be with me for 3 hours...following me around and I was supposed to ...you know...entertain.

Good one. I was like:

"What???
"Shit, no!!"
"Why are you doing this to me?"
"I am not nice."
"I am not free!""

Stuff like that.

Then John the idiot (my student, not the special child) brought the girl into my class. Some of the kids began to laugh. No way should they laugh at her and so I took the girl out and introduced myself. She did look autistic and down-ish. I berated myself in my heart for not being receptive or welcoming. Jaybonnet told us to get back in class and asked me to give the girl a piece of my birthday cake.

Okay.

Since it was 1150hrs, I told the rest of the class they could all go home. But no one seemed to be moving. Fishy. So, I started to pack the laptop and projector and stuff. Then this special girl tried to feed me cake. I was like:

"Eh what...what now?"

I took the spoon from her and ate the cake. Then Jaybonnet and friends screamed:

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!"

And oh they laughed so hard. It was a freaking prank! The special girl who had mental retardation was Jaybonnet's friend. I was not amused. So not amused.

Ed: Hey! It's not funny!!
Jaybon: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It's a joke!!! She's not mentally disabled!
Ed: Yeah, but it's not funny.

Awkwardness ensured.

Ed: This is bad taste, man.
Jaybon: But it was funny when we were discussing last night. We thought, since we cannot sabo you...cannot put cake and all, we come up with this, lah.
Ed: Okay, but what if someone in this classroom actually has a sibling who is mentally disabled? What if my mother is disabled? I would have actually run out and hate you guys forever.
Jaybon: Eh, we didnt think...
Ed: That's the problem. You people dont think.

Jaybon: Eh...we didnt mean any harm, lah.
Ed: Granted. But man...what if you had offended someone really really badly?
Jaybon: Err..we didnt think about it. But it was really funny when we were discussing about it last night. Everyone was laughing like crazy.
Ed: Yeah yeah...but now, see. It's distasteful!

So it was like that.
It totally spoilt my lunch and my mood.

There I was berating myself earlier for not treating a guest nicely...trying to shirk from doing a good cause and then it turned out, everything was farce. I was punk'd. It was suppose to be funny...but seriously, it wasnt. One of my students, SY, had a good friend who's autistic and I actually apologised to her for her classmates' dumb antics.

In Jennifer Aniston's words, it's "not cool", guys.

Seriously.

My weekend mood was so ruined. Only retail therapy could help. So I bought a new haversack (the one I bought and brought to India has shattered to pieces), a pair of sports sandals and a Nalgene water bottle. Now I feel slightly better.

Just slightly.
There's still a bitter aftertaste in my mouth, though.

I mean...I do appreciate the surprise birthday gesture and all. But man, the distasteful prank was something.

Oh well.

A change will do you good

This was shot in Kashmir...so I think this was in Gulmarg.

If only Archie, CY2 and I slid on our bellies down the slope.

...
...

Felt a little down when I got home.

Oh well.
What's the point anyway.
We sing, we dance, we steal things.
We live, we fuck up, we die.

A thousand times goodnight, no-gooders.

Come as you are

Perez just reminded me...

April 4th, 1979 - January 22nd, 2008

You are missed.

Ain't it funny

Burp.

We just had our school CNY buffet lunch as usual; the oranges, red packets and the works. Good stuff all around. Everyone went away with a pseudo good vibe. We're going to turn this recession to our advantage. Yes, we can!

All we need now is for Tharman to give us a ray of hope later today.

Ebay-ed yesterday and got myself this for $12.

This manifesto is something which I've been wanting to read. After teaching the works of Karl Marx and all the socialism and communism movements in class (as part of the university's arts curriculum; not to spread my ideology), I was eager to lay my hands on the original words. Reading them online is not the same as having a book in my hand. For I am a pulpist like that.

Yesterday, I got home early as I did not have any plans. I was home at 1930hrs, made myself a bowl of instant noodles and sat in front of the TV watching American Idol on cable. The father wanted to watch tennis after that so I passed the remote and reduced myself to sulking in the room cause I just didnt feel like tennis. Read a little and soon I fell asleep at about 2200hrs. Man, that was early.

It was quite an uneventful day yesterday.
The only highlight came in a package when I got home.

This cost me $42...but I like it.

Anyway...I..never mind.

P/S: Nani, remember our plan? I am determined. It is time.
