Though the budget is waay bigger this time, the film is still typically Luhrmann's; manic cuts, distorted shots and facial close ups. There's the typical pop song element and there's without fail, a coupley dance. There's still the forbidden relationship, the 'pariahs', the social uncomfortability as in all his films so far and the build-up kissing scenes.
Though not as pop culturishly groundbreaking as Romeo & Juliet, as melodramatic and dizzying as Moulin Rouge or as underdoggishly charming as Strictly Ballroom, Luhrmann should add this to his growing set of Red Curtain special.
Loves it.
Okay back to India.
