I am sorry to burst your bubble.
Mass communication is one of the hardest subjects you can ever study.
It is a bloody collection of social sciences!
[Let me rattle on. I just need to reflect on what are the things that have I been wasting sleep for these past months.]
What I have to learn right now in order to teach my students is so vast. Over the past 3 months (yes, it has been only 3 months), I have read, and sometimes analysed, sociology, anthropology, technology, genealogy, psychology, ideology, cosmology, theology, economics, cinematography, epistemology, ethnology, philology and the ever-boggling philosophy.
A lot to absorb right? Tell me about it. However, of all the -logies in the world, there is one...a very important one...which I havent learnt or am not given enough exposure - Pedagogy.
Pedagogy - the art or science of being a teacher
What is the bloody point in learning rocket science if I dont know how to make it interesting to the students?
Or not knowing how to engage them in debates about globalisation? What is the point if I dont know how to manage my class?
My relief teaching stint was a scam. No trainings were given to us and yet, we were expected to change the world. Not everyone has the innate ability to teach but there are many organisations who fail to consider that.
Okay, what is my problem here?
My problem is that I have to teach life subjects but I havent received the proper training of being an educator. I still cant forgive NIE for rejecting my application. Humph.
Now, here comes the irony.
I received a formal note from NIE a month into my lecturing job. It told me that I was then "fit" to be a lecturer. I was "good to go". They (the NIE) even gave me a list of subjects I was qualified to teach. Suddenly, I am good enough to teach adult human beings but not good enough to study in their "holy" institution? Or is it because ... since The School is not a government organisation, they dont give a damn about the quality of the teachers? Professor Li...am I or am I not good enough? Dont phunk with my heart, baby.
Not good enough, if I were to confess.

Back to my super thick and wordy book.
P/S: BEP's concert tonight. Too curious to give it a miss, too cheap to pay. 'Stingy-ness' rules. No concert, but books tonight then.
P/P/S: Where's the love, people?
