Have been activated to teleport myself to Kuala Lumpur this weekend to do an event coverage and a couple of interviews.

I run
Two months after Hong Kong, I will be running away for 3 days to Krabi.
It's just 3 days...or rather, 2 nights.
Doubt I can do much, but I plan to rest and swim as much as I can.
I'm staying at the Mercure Krabi Deevana and true to my goal of to just space out, I've got the pool access room...
...probably something like this.
Asked my sister to join me and well...I'm paying. Would have been alone otherwise. I could, but really, I'd love to share moments with people. Even if I have to buy their moments. What to do...singleton.
Stop short of asking my parents cause they will bug me incessantly when all I want is to rest. Something which they cannot understand. Why would one pay so much to just...rest?
Well...cause good rest is expensive and hard to come by.

Second-class technocrat
I have always been a techie...since I got my first walkman. I've had a gazillion of them cause I always messed up those bloody things by ripping them apart and not being able to put them back. Then there were discman and all sorts of tape rewinders, radio transistors, pagers, various headphones and all sorts of gadgets courtesy of uncles and Bank of Daddy.
Then when I started to work, it all ended because I couldnt afford all those and Bank of Daddy ceased to exist. So now...when I'm finally more financially-able (just a little bit more only), I can slowly indulge in my passion for techno-ware.
But, I'm still too stingy/cautious (whatever you want to call it!) to buy top premiums and best sellers so I resort to buying used stuff like my black Macbook aka Mandela. And with that spirit, I've got another toy...
...an old DSLR camera.
It's just an old Olympus E420 but I've got it at such a good price and well, I've always wanted a freaking digital SLR (I have a normal SLR...who uses that nowadays? Films? Huh?).
It's an entry-level DSLR but it's all right with me cause I can play with lenses and playing with apertures will keep me occupied for many happy hours. If I am not wrong, this camera is one of the smallest DSLRs around so I can stuff it in my handbag or something.
Cant wait to bring it to Italia and shoot from the hips while rolling down Tuscan grass. It's going to be awesome, though it's just 4 months away and I havent gotten even a single accommodation covered.
Gonna start searching for the next electronic device...
...an all-in-one turntable :)

What's your worth?
I may not lead a perfect life nor am I the most happiest person on Earth.
However, I do believe that you should always do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
That means:
- Stay away from other people's property
- Be kind to other fellow human beings, not just to animals (yes, this reversal is intended)
- Don't be a hypocrite
- If you want to be selfish, then others can too
- Be empathetic
- Have a clean heart. Life's easier that way.
Simple rules...
...so hard to undertake.
Take away your worldly possessions, and well, who are you really? Are you someone who is proud of yourself? Are you a good child? Sibling? A good friend? Or are you a parasitic creature who just takes and takes but seldom gives, if at all?
If you don't know your worth in kindness, others wont know too.
So, how much are you worth?
For if it is low, how can you not expect others to treat you cheaply?
So again...just how worthy are you?

Don't know why
As I sit here watching Manchester United trying to gain an upperhand against Aston Villa, my mind seems to take me to a place far, far away - down at Seaford, East Sussex in southern England to be precise. Though it has been 7 years, it's still my most melancholic place on earth and whenever I feel blue, the mind takes me there.
Maybe one day, I can take you there and you can see it with your own eyes. Maybe one day you'll understand why standing on the Seven Sisters' cliff, facing the British Channel can be liberating and depressing at the same time.
Maybe. One day.

Tolong ingatkan aku
The father turns 61 years old today (Monday).
So just now, I brought him and the mother to Aquamarine @ Marina Mandarin for lunch.
We then took a hike to Marina Bay Sands, where we chilled and also checked out the Titanic Exhibition down at ArtScience Museum.
Hope you had fun.
P/S: I'm always emo whenever a parent turns a day old. I'm happy that I get to celebrate another year with them, but I am utterly depressed cause I havent got a clue how many more birthdays will there be. Never mind. Let's not even go there.

It started last week when we had our get-together to see Liah off to her marriage.

Dear Ms Mona,
One thing I learnt from those long hours of Literature lessons in secondary school and JC was the need to appreciate all that Life has to offer you. I still remember very well, the feeling of being despondent and not knowing what went wrong at the end of Year 1 in JC. Life then seemed to be a masterpiece of duplicity, mistaken assumptions, confusion and the bitter twang of failure. It was not a pleasant feeling, and I felt that I was at the end of the road. What had gone wrong? So I started to search within myself, but I was as unsure as ever if I could really find the answer.
Then your letter came back to me, and in it; you told me that the central problem could be the environment, since not everyone takes to a new environment like fishes do to water. You mentioned of the similar situation that you had studying overseas in Australia, and told me to take heart. The comfort I drew from that letter stayed with me throughout the late nights spent re-learning every subject from scratch ( from topics as diverse as Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe to the essentials of poetry comparison for Literature , the Korean War for history, and particularly watching Youtube videos on Economics to buff up the pitiful little that I found myself knowing) , often into the wee hours of the morning throughout the whole of the November/December break in 2010.
It was draining both physically and mentally; the skin of a finger on my right hand actually became red and hurt because of the constant writing , and to sit at the desktop studying whilst my peers were enjoying the last few days of sunshine before Year 2 began). It was draining, but I drew solace from the thought that you had more obstacles in your way having to study as a stranger in a strange land. Surely my present 'suffering' paled in comparison to that.
Someone believed in me and recognised my effort, and it was now my turn to justify her belief.
That was the least I could do.
The greatest reward I got a year on, was to see and share in the happiness of my teachers on Results Day , and to know that I had not let them down. All the late nights and the pain became worth it in that instant. It is through the pain of such past experiences that I know that University Education will not be a walk in the park. If anything, it might even be harder than anything I have done so far. Subjects like a Literature minor, a major in political science, sociology, economics , english language or history seem formidable in content and appearance. But when the time comes to step into the temple of higher learning, do it we must, and do it we shall.
You never forget a good teacher, Ms Mona.

Dear Ms Mona,
One thing I learnt from those long hours of Literature lessons in secondary school and JC was the need to appreciate all that Life has to offer you. I still remember very well, the feeling of being despondent and not knowing what went wrong at the end of Year 1 in JC. Life then seemed to be a masterpiece of duplicity, mistaken assumptions, confusion and the bitter twang of failure. It was not a pleasant feeling, and I felt that I was at the end of the road. What had gone wrong? So I started to search within myself, but I was as unsure as ever if I could really find the answer.
Then your letter came back to me, and in it; you told me that the central problem could be the environment, since not everyone takes to a new environment like fishes do to water. You mentioned of the similar situation that you had studying overseas in Australia, and told me to take heart. The comfort I drew from that letter stayed with me throughout the late nights spent re-learning every subject from scratch ( from topics as diverse as Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe to the essentials of poetry comparison for Literature , the Korean War for history, and particularly watching Youtube videos on Economics to buff up the pitiful little that I found myself knowing) , often into the wee hours of the morning throughout the whole of the November/December break in 2010.
It was draining both physically and mentally; the skin of a finger on my right hand actually became red and hurt because of the constant writing , and to sit at the desktop studying whilst my peers were enjoying the last few days of sunshine before Year 2 began). It was draining, but I drew solace from the thought that you had more obstacles in your way having to study as a stranger in a strange land. Surely my present 'suffering' paled in comparison to that.
Someone believed in me and recognised my effort, and it was now my turn to justify her belief.
That was the least I could do.

Anthology
"Rancangan antologi Projek Skrip sudah pun hampir tamat dan walaupun rancangannya singkat - hanya lapan episod saja - ia telah menjadi wadah yang baik bagi mereka yang ingin mencuba bakat mereka dalam bidang penulisan drama.
Dari apa yang saya lihat, peserta-peserta yang mengambil bahagian dalam rancangan ini telah mendapati bimbingan yang baik dan konsep cerita yang akhirnya dipersembahkan juga boleh tahan untuk mereka yang baru mula melibatkan diri dalam bidang penulisan skrip ini.
Ini bukan suatu perkara yang senang dan bagi mereka yang pernah mencuba, menulis sebuah drama amat mencabar kerana penulis harus memastikan yang jalan ceritanya mempunyai daya penarik atau hook yang kuat, yang dapat menarik penonton untuk mengetahui cerita dari mula hingga akhir.
Namun, seperti biasa, jika ada yang suka rancangan ini, pastinya ada penonton lain yang tidak suka. Ada yang mengatakan rancangan Projek Skrip ini hambar dan tidak patut ditayangkan di waktu perdana pada 8.30 malam.
Seorang penerbit dari sebuah syarikat penerbitan tempatan mengatakan drama-drama yang ditayangkan boleh tahan tetapi ada beberapa yang baginya, kurang perkembangan watak. Komen rakan penerbit ini membuatkan saya terfikir. Reaksi yang dirasakan oleh penonton ni, apakah ia kerana skrip drama yang kurang berkesan, lakonan yang lemah atau arahannya yang tidak kena?"

Sek fun yum cha
A very last minute plan.
Early this week, the father decided to go on a family trip during mid March.
After much deliberation (or rather, hard selling on my part), we have decided to go to Hong Kong because of my familiarity with that place.

Sad drunk & poorly
Not feeling so great.
Was on MC on Friday. Came home late the night before and only had Maggi dinner at midnight. Fell asleep while eating in the living room. Woke up with a jolt 3 hrs later, staggered to the room and woke up again 5 hrs later with a splitting headache and body aches.
By 9 I was slipping off the couch at the clinic cause I just felt so listless and confused. Couldnt really pinpoint what was wrong so maybe...the doctor just came up with wild guesses and gave me a placebo.
Took meds, slept at noon and only to wake up 3 hrs later with a swollen right eye...stye!
Like what?
Went out with family for dinner..ate meds when I came home and now, diarrhoea.
Give me a break.

Don't forget to remember me
Dear Ms Mona,
Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, two years have gone by and I have completed my A levels. The results were released today and I did quite well for my subjects ( History, Literature , Economics, Mathematics and General Paper) , and beyond anything I could ever have imagined for Economics.
I got an A for H2 Economics!!
An A for English Literature, History and General Paper.
I scored 88 points out of 90 points.
I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw the result slip, and I have been trying to process that knowledge all night. The desktop clock reads 11:31pm , Friday Night. A normal clock moves in cycles, and that is a very befitting comparison when you consider how one grows as time goes by.
I used to hate Economics two years ago in 2010, thinking it to be a horrid subject with horrid content and beastly graphs that one would be hard pressed to make any sense of.
How times change.
Now, I've come to find that I appreciate Economics for what it is today in our lives, and perhaps even come to admire it. The issues of macroeconomics in striving to achieve efficiency in resource allocation and equity in income distribution covers areas as diverse as the efforts made by governments around the world to counter traffic congestion (an over-allocation of vehicles at any one time) and the numerous Occupy Protests all over the world. There is an ineffable beauty in being able to apply what you know from economic content to get more out of the articles that you read in the news everyday.
Thank you very very much for your encouragement and support, Ms Mona.. Up till today, I still remember what you said on Facebook; to strive on, but strive on with understanding and give it time, since not everyone takes to a new educational level like fish to water. Your efforts have made the late nights spent studying and the pain that little bit more bearable, and made the journey, as tough as it was at times, all that more comforting.

I dont know why you would still bother to remember me, considering our paths crossed only but for a short while. Nevertheless, I'm very glad you still have me in your thoughts and that you share your great news with me. I am touched, honoured and definitely happy to be able to know someone who is as grounded and sincere as you are.
I hope this piece of good news...this great result...means a lifetime of more fantastic things to come. Hopefully the course of your future is clearer now and that you have found, or at least figured a way to, the path of your dreams, and as long as you're willing to share it, I will always be here to read and feel your joy, your pain and your achievements.

The passing

Due to Whitney Houston's passing, the mood is a weird mash of sombre and celebration. Bruno Mars did a great performance, though.
As for the results, I am good with the nominees cause there's no Madonna. So yeah..hope Bruno win something.

My eyes
...are swollen.
I caught the 12.20pm screening of 'Tree Of Life' at Lido just now and for the love of me, the show struck a chord so deep I jus saw that throughout the movie and cried.
For almost 2 hrs (was still all right at the beginning), I watched and I wept. I wept so hard my gums ached, my shirt was soaked, my neck was drenched and my nose blocked. Even had difficulty breathing.
And worse...I had to control so hard not to just bawl loudly. My lips were quivering holding the cries.
Such dramatic reaction...and I couldnt fathom it.
This has got to be my most emotional film.
Damn you, Terrence Malick.

Ugly but beautiful

Under the Tuscan sun
Though I hate burning myself under the blistering sun in the name of leisure, I kind of miss the feeling of having a slight tan derived from hours of swimming and snorkeling in the sea (oh South China Sea how I miss you!). The last time I did that was when I was in Phuket, almost 12 months ago. So many things happened then - left old job, started new one, made new friends, got a year older.
Why the affinity to water...beats me.
I'm a Malay...maybe the fisherman spirit is strong deep within.
I don't know.
Hahaha.
Doubt I'll be making many trips this year, unless they happened real last minute or somebody is paying me to do it a.k.a. work junket trip. I'm saving the moolah for Italy, scheduled in September. Planning it, or rather, just thinking about it is giving me jitters cause it sounds epic to me. You know me. Planning a holiday itinerary is never my thing. That's why I need travel companion/s to do it. Then, I'll get pissed cause it will then become just their programme anyway (no, not you, Lauren!).
My husband...should I ever meet/find/discover one...must definitely be a planner. He doesn't have to be a looker but he must be someone who can plan and then be flexible about it. As I envision a lifelong of travelling, he too must like it. If he doesnt like to plan, I can picture lots of lazy travels, sleeping on the streets, missing trains and stumbling upon unchartered territories and discovering new sites. Exciting now...not really when you are 70 years old.
Anyway yeah, Italia. The friend's wedding invitation has been received...Sept 14 at Tuscany. Her wedding is the element I need to start my trip to Pasta Land. After Spain in 2010, Europe has always been a great attraction. Of course, football plays a big part too and talking about that, I need to find what are the football matches happening when I'm in Milan (Milan! Internazionale!) or Rome (Roma!). Need to start sourcing for accommodation lest Lauren accuses me of not being interested in finding a roof over our heads.
Talking about accommodation, I'm still contemplating if I should stay at the wedding venue, Villa Barberino or should I just get a place in a hostel down the road. Though I'd always choose the latter type no matter what the situation is (I'm just a sucker for cheap accommodation), I must consider my travelling companion's 'requirements' and I think Lauren is quite particular about accommodation. But I think...somehow...exchange rates will eventually prevail, haha.
