Metal Mickey

So yeah...Saturday, Lauren brought me to Cathay because her company had some movie function. And since it was a company function, many staff brought their spouses and kids. So many kids were running around...I felt paranoid of catching HFMD.

IRON MAN was certainly worth the wait. It did start rough but it was only because I was tired and sleepy. However, when the CGI kicked in, boy was I wide awake.

Christine Everheart: Have you ever lost an hour of sleep your whole life?
Tony Stark: I'd be prepared to lose a few with you.

...

Tony Stark: Why are you trying to hustle me out of here?
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Your flight was scheduled to leave an hour and a half ago.
Tony Stark: That's funny. I thought with it being my plane and all, that it would just wait for me to get there. I mean, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of having your own plane if it departs before you arrive?

...

Tony Stark: Pepper, uh, how big are your hands?
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: What?
Tony Stark: How big are your hands?
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: I don't understand why...
Tony Stark: Get down here. I need you.

...

Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: [after Stark's one night stand with Christine] I have your clothes here; they've been dry cleaned and pressed. And there's a car waiting for you outside that will take you anywhere you'd like to go.
Christine Everheart: You must be the famous Pepper Potts.
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: [smiles and nods] Indeed I am.
Christine Everheart: After all these years, Tony still has you picking up the dry cleaning.
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: I do anything and everything Mr. Stark requires. Including occasionally taking out the trash. Will that be all?

So yes, Robert Downey Jr is yummy. He has always been, especially when he had his hair really short and donned a pair of nerdy specs for Ally McBeal yonks ago. It was like..swoonsville revisited in Iron Man.

Ooh mama.

The movie was good. I wont say it is brilliant because it is not something we havent seen before - plot, effects and acting wise. The only difference is that Iron Man is kind of old while the rest of the superheroes are like barely in their 20s. The storyline is also quite recent as it deals with Afghanistan...terrorism and such. Everything else is kind of similar actually.

Still, it is an enjoyable one and I will be waiting for the next instalment.

This is of course provided that Robert Downey Jr wont die from drug or alcohol overdose that is.

We'll wait.

This ain't a scene

I missed Steve Aoki spinning cause I had no kakis who like him.

When can I ever give these things up?

Happy Vesak Day.

P/S: Beach was relaxing but after the soak...I got damn tired. I fell asleep at midnight. That's damn rare. On a public holiday's eve some more.

P/P/S: On 2nd thought, it was the mee kuah-mutton chop-rojak-satay dinner that Lauren, Nani and I had that made me lethargic.

Here comes the sun

...da da da...

I couldnt remember what I was doing but I only went to bed at about 0430hrs on Saturday morning. Woke up 3 hours later...very late of course. I was supposed to be up at the crack of dawn. Both Meiling and I overslept and we ended up taking cab to Yishun Ring Road.

Lucky my cadets were well-initiated (cause their officer was late, lah!). Thank God for dedicated ex-cadets who came down to help. I had H (a former cadet...whom I trained when he was 15. He's 20+ now. Gosh I feel so old!) over at the unit and when I reached, he was already chatting with the cadets, giving them pep talk and all.

Cool.
I taught him well.
All those years of screaming at him worked.

Hot!

[Short story: H wasnt really a model student back then. Though he was good in his NPCC drill, he didnt fare well in class. He was regarded as one of those delinquents and had gotten into trouble with the school countless times. Now that he's in NS, he says that everything finally comes into pieces. He says that he has learnt a lot of things during his cadet days which didnt make sense then. It does now. I feel like a proud mama...pinning a medal on my son's chest :) Except this son is just a few years younger than me :( ]

Anyway...

I didnt feel like changing into my uniform. Besides, the Sec 3s and H could manage the cadets. Meiling and I just supervised and did as little as possible, trying to stay away from the sun. However, it was soon time to play game and well..haha..screw the sun.

We played a bastardised version of skittle which was chicken feet for me cause (as hard as it is to believe) I could run and I could definitely aim. So yeah...the cadets got thrashed haha.

..
..

Shite. It's 0500hrs already. I have class at 0900hrs (yes, my Sunday class!). I need to sleep.

Later.

Take you there

Lauren and I cant decide if we're Meredith Grey-Christina Yang ... or ... Erica Hahn-Callie Torres. Our days of being Harold and Kumar are over.

Haha.
Lame.

"When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you"

After a late dinner at Cineleisure, Lauren and I walked down Orchard Road and parked ourselves on the sidewalk seat near Orchard MRT. We sat there for quite a while, doing what we do best: Stretch our imagination and talk of things people normally don't talk about.

Did a running commentary on the people walking past us.

We know what's the problem but we have seen too many of some good things that we believe we shouldnt be selling ourselves short for. It's awrite. Everything will be awrite. I guess, we really need to believe. Hati mau baik, beb.

Haha.

It's back to Yishun tomorrow morning after dawn. The exams are over and I will resume my (almost) weekly NPCC training at the Alcatraz. The instructors will be away so it's just going to be me drilling the cadets in the hot sun. I hope Meiling will help me.

Talking about that, I havent worn my NPCC uniform since the camp in March. I really hope I can still fit into the uniform.

Shuchs.

A thousand times goodnight, McFatties.

Dead from the waist down

Yes, it's extreme. It's either free and slack around to the maximum or I-dont-realise-it's-my-birthday kind of busy. However, it doesnt mean that I can tolerate stupidity.

So, if you're wondering why your workshops have poor attendance well, it's simply because you're stupid. You're stupid to think that people will take care of their health and personal development when they are buried deep in work. Mind you, half of this work is not even necessary should proper planning measures have been taken by the management.

Morons.

Really...words cannot describe how stupid these people are...the people in Resource Planning and HR

Idiots.
Go rot in administrative hell.

P/S: Need to vent off anger on something/someone as I see my work piling up.

###

I can see clearly now

Still awake.

Thanks to sidereel.com. The world is so vast here.

Am stuck at Two & a Half Men. Many many more shows to be watched.

I can see the weekend whizzing by.

Bringing on the heartbreak

"Gypsy, sittin lookin pretty
A broken rose and laughin' eyes
You're a mystery
Always runnin' wild
Like a child without a home
You're always searchin'
Searchin for a feelin'
But it's easy come and easy go

Oh
I'm sorry but it's true
You're bringin' on the heartache
Takin all the best of me
Oh can't you see
You got the best of me
Whoah can't you see

You're bringin' on the heartbreak
Bringin' on the heartache
You're bringin' on the heartache
Bringin' on the heartache
Can't you see ..."

Am so stoned-fuck right now.

It must have been one of the longest days of my life. Everything almost came to a standstill; time went by so slowly. Today was the day I felt I shouldnt have been here. I should have been somewhere else. Somewhere fun. Somewhere adventurous. Somewhere bright and shiny.

Mind is kind of blank.
Very rare, indeed.

Think I'll just retreat earlier tonight. Weekend (and public holiday) come quick!

A thousand times goodnight, sexy afficianadoes.

P/S: Crap. There's class this Sunday. Chee bye.

If you're thinking of me...

Throughout the course of the day, I had urges to blog. When I finally decided to do so, usually in my bedroom at 0300hrs, I couldnt seem to remember anything.

It's back again. I am back to falling asleep on the floor; dropping dead like flies midway newspapers and preparing for classes. Work is slowly erasing my youth and no, it's not that I am unhappy. I just dont have the energy to stop and think about life.

The only time I get to do so is when I sit down and blog at the end of the day. And even then, sleepiness (sometimes unconsciousness) steps in even before I launch blogger.

This is not good.
I need time to think.
I am a thinker, goddammit.

Am down mostly on afternoon shifts (1300hrs - 2200hrs) and well, everything else suffers. Mornings are spent poring sleepily over incomprehensible books and if I'm lucky, sometimes I have time for breakfast/lunch. Get to school, first class ends at 1630hrs, meetings, squeeze in a 30-minute pathetic dinner and then night class. By the time I reach home, I get tired and upset that the day is over. I compensate it with staying up late to surf, blog, youtube...anything to stall the day from ending. Usually, I succumb at 0430hrs. 5 hours later, the whole cycle repeats itself.

I hate routines.

Anyway...

There is something going on lately. My friends and *get this* students are busy trying to hook me up with random strangers and their friends. It was amusing at the beginning but now, it gets kind of worrying. Am I exuding desperation? The last time I checked, I was still fine with my status.

Status?
What status?

I'm fine!

So yeah, people are getting antsy pantsy at the fact that I am not procreating settling down yet.

Haiyah....it's a complicated and troublesome issue. If it happens, it happens. If it doesnt happen, then something else (something better) will happen. I mean, I would like to settle down some day. I dont want to grow old alone and eventually die without anyone knowing. I dont want people to remember me by the rotting stench that my dead body emits.

I like the idea of going to bed at the end of the day with a loved one who is there to just listen to your day and we talk ourselves to sleep. I also like the idea of being in the same room with him, both of us are doing our own thing and yet, take comfort that we have each other's back. But if that (permanent; constant) person doesnt exist, I am not going to break my back about it. It's not totally my loss, you know :)

There are many things one can do. And there are more things that one can do together with somebody else. I admit that 2's a company. However, this is all God's grand cosmic plan. Let's just hope that His idea of my ideal partner is not an alien from some obscure planet. Where are going to live??

In the meantime, I just continue with what (hahaha) I do well, and still have hope that someday, Brad Pitt someone will really take my breath away, sweep me off my feet and stop me from going to the movies alone. Hmmm.

Hope that person who sweeps me off my feet is not an undertaker. You know...sweep my rotting feet after months of being dead alone in my apartment. Haha. I know I know. Me and my lame morbid humour. Tsk tsk tsk.

*This rambling is partly inspired by a recent article in the New Paper about an elderly who has Parkinson's Disease. He is living alone and has problems getting around.*

It's almost 0500hrs and I havent got a thing done. Shitters.

A thousand times goodnight, well-wishers and do-gooders.

No Diggity

Another student likened me to Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones.

No!!!!

###

Hello

*Am listening to the horror radio programme on Ria. Waaaaaaaah, freaky. Am humming songs to block out the scary parts. Why do I even bother listening?*

Got a message from Ismail earlier. His mother is seriously ill and is not in the hospital on respirator. I hope she gets well soon. Our prayers are with her, Mail.

If we can be of help, do tell us.
God speed.

Anyway, heheh, you knew about the spoilt TV right? Well this morning, I heard commotion in the living room. So, I peered out my door to see unfamiliar men walking in and out of the house. Turned out that they were the delivery men.

The father had bought a new TV. Hooray!

Sharp Aquos LCD, can lah!

That's the way love goes

My student said I should go for doctors.
Another said I should go for lawyers.
My auntie said I should go for pilots.

I think I should just go...home.

Violet Hill

Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember
There was snow
White snow

Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze
Down below

When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots
On show
You'd better lie low

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
And went out to fit their rifles
And the cross
Was held aloft

Bury me in honor
When I'm dead and hit the ground
A love back home
Unfolds

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier
With the captain of some sinking ship
With snow
Far below

So if you love me
Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to violet hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still

So if you love me
Won't you let me know?
If you love me,
Won't you let me know?

That's all.

Like a rolling stone

It's the time of the season where I have to mug for exams. Yes, my students are sitting for the exams and I am the one who is mugging.

Reason: We have to go through past years' exam papers and I need to know all (if not, most) the answers so that I can provide guidance to the students. You know...like, show them the light at the end of a freaking long and dark tunnel. Good Lord.

Right now, I am cracking my head and losing sleep over Policy Studies. To my students, if studying this doesnt spark your interest in politics, economics and geography, then I guess, nothing will.

Think I put nerdy muggers to shame.

Am even putting New York fantasy on hold now. By next week, I will survive on coffee and Red Bull already. My phone bills will sky-rocket, thanks to desperate students who need to seek solace and more guidance and my every breathing moment will be spent on "repentants" who will loudly proclaim their regret for missing classes. If they can beat themselves..you know, flogging and mortifying themselves with a cilice (a la Opus Dei), they will do it in front of me.

Such is desperation, see.

Back to mugging.

My students better vote for me when I run for presidency some day.

Haha.

###

It's not over

I had the utmost difficulty in making my way to work this Sunday morning. I groggily made my way to the MRT and then decided to take a cab instead. On it, I almost couldnt open me eyes. Pure torture.

After class, I stayed back to finish a little bit of marking before dragging myself home. Sprawled on the couch with lunch on one hand as I lay slumped watching a laughable Tamil movie on the telly. Fell in and out of sleep. 1745hrs, I dragged myself down again to the MRT. Was meeting Clara, Weiling and Junyi (her hubby) at PS' Manhattan Fish Market.

Psychological and pure marketing ploy.
Stinks up the whole restaurant.

The ladies (and a guy)were talking about tiles and floorings. I was quite amazed though. I really didnt imagine that one day, we would be talking about laminated flooring, acrylic marble top, yada yada. I was lost...so I just kept quiet. Nothing to contribute, mah.

I want mosaic walls in my own house.
The more colouful they are, the better.
My house will be like a ...circus.

After dinner, Clara and I tagged the couple to Mayer cause they wanted to look at stoves. So adult, right..what the hell hahaha. Saw some juicers and blenders and was tempted to buy. Until I saw the price tag, of course.

Headed to TCC, chatted a bit more...discussing Weiling's wedding banquet. It was almost 2130hrs and I was getting antsy and desperate to go home.

Why?
What else!

Football.

It's the last match of the season and not only that, it's the title decider. Wigan vs Man U and Chelsea vs Bolton. Yeah, it's very important. No fight.

So I ran all the way home; MRT to home in just 5 minutes. I was running to the gate when I saw the sister's bf in the living room. Lucky didnt let out a fart at the door step or something. So malu-ating.

So both of us stared at the really small TV. As the main bigger TV was spoilt, the mother kindly donated the one in her room.

My spoilt Philips.

Had to be contented watching my favourite men on the smaller and grainier Toshiba

Mentioning men...after Cantona and Solskjaer, think I've found someone who managed to captivate me with his style and composure. It's Owen Hargreaves, ya'll.

Just realise we share the same birthday.
He's one year younger, though.

Anyway, back to the game.

Ronaldo converted a spotkick and then, Giggs sealed the deal. We won 2-0 (many people had predicted this score, by the way) and well, Chelsea only managed to draw 1-1 with Bolton. So yes, the trophy is ours!

Uncle Fergie was soo happy and well, so was I!

Hooray!
Hooray!
Hooray!

All right. Enough celebration for now. We still have May 21st to think about. And I have many classes to teach and many revision to go through.

Right now, I'm all shagged out and I need the bed.

Therefore, a thousand times goodnight, victors and celebutantes.

Stop crying your heart out

It's almost 0500hrs.
It's raining heavily.
The wind is howling.
I have class at 0900hrs.
I am still awake.

Barely, though.

Nani picked Jay, Jo and I up at AMK Central and then she picked Lauren up by the roadside. We headed to Mellben to queue for crabs and then soon after, Grace joined us.

We queued at 1630hrs, had our dinner at 1710hrs and everything was gobbled by 1800hrs. To think that most of us werent even hungry. Yeah, not hungry my ass, lah. Hahaha!

Nani had to go town to get something for her mom. Grace wanted to go back to catch some sleep before clubbing. Lauren and I wanted to rest our stomachs and lepak somewhere...so we headed to Toa Payoh to Jay/Jo's abode. So when we got there, you roughly know what's going to happen.

It's Wii time.

Oh...check these out.
Not only have I got a retarded voice, I also have retarded friends.
Hahaha. Much love, guys.

Here's Lauren and Jay shearing sheep. Check out Jay's handjob expertise.

Here you can see the 2 same idiots trying to outrun each other and to outwit the monster. Both failed terrible. Oh, hear my cackling. Banshee!

Did I tell you I was very good at this particular game? Hahah.

The crazies, definitely.

At about 2100hrs (almost 3 hours of Wii-ing), we finally called it a day. We were sweaty and stinking quite bad. Jay retreated to his computer while Jo, Lauren and I sprawled on our backs to talk about life in general. 2 hours later, Lauren and I left their house and headed to AMK Hub.

MADE OF HONOR is a pleasant chick-flick, loosely adapted from My Best Friend's Wedding, The Wedding Date, Enchanted, The Runaway Bride and gazillion other fail-proof romantic comedy films. It is not exactly phenomenal. The plot is cliche and the concept is tired. Still...you know, it's a love story.

And McDreamy is in it. Yum.

..
..

So yeah, Made of Honor is predictable but it does have its own little sweet moments. Scenaries of the Scotland countryside arent really attractive but they are kind of charming. And it is based in New York so...a little excitement throughout the movie is felt cause in less than a month's time, we both will be walking the streets there and stuff.

But well.
It got me thinking.

What if...it has been you all along? What if Mr Right (Now) is just right under my nose but my nose is too big and I cant see him? What if I happen to let him out of my grip.

"You want to stay with me in the morning
You only hold me when I sleep
I was meant to tread the water
Now I've gotten in too deep
For every piece of me that wants you
Another piece backs away

'Cause you give me something
That makes me scared, alright
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try
Please give me something
'Cause someday I might know my heart"
(James Morrison)

Okay. Nonsense.
Sleep.

A thousand times goodnight, blind spinsters.

Let's get retarded

Last night (Friday) was a bit of a slight fiasco. St James wasnt exactly bringing the heat and Dina, Fifi, Yushan, Yiling and I spent most of the time shuffling from one "outlet" to another in order to get the right mood. It was almost 0200hrs when we finally settled at Boiler Room. I didnt exactly feel the RnB vibe...I didnt feel the love from PowerHouse's dance stuff either. Maybe I was really tired from work.

Dina, we'll have another "hen" party soon.
Maybe something lighter and healthier.
We're getting too old for this.

Yushan left earlier but we 4 didnt last that long either. We left for Simpang Bedok soon after and when we were there, we realised no one was hungry. Win.

We looked so fresh for 0400hrs.

It began to rain and we sent Yiling back at Eunos before making the rounds to AMK and then Yishun. Upon reaching my place, I groggily went up to the house and all, feeling a bit spooked from all the bloody ghost stories I've been listening to on a malay radio channel.

Went online till dawn and even fell asleep with Snow White on my lap. I had unanswered MSN messages flashing when I woke up, which was at 1400hrs on Saturday.

Such greatness.

So yeah...sorry Dina. Sorry that it didnt turn out spectacular. Let's just have another chill session next time. Just lepak by some river/longkang or something.
