Skin on skin

In my ultimate lunchtime vanity, I slipped on those dreaded shoes.

Just took them out.

Detached skin in the shoes, bleeding wounds on feet.

Nabei.

Hell on high heels

Chose an old pair of shoes to work today as they were not that high of heels. By the time I reached the train station, I had bleeding feet. Damn you, blody blisters. Should have just stuck to my glorious heels. Give me slightly wobbly discomfort over painful, bleeding feet any day. Now, what am I going to do with these feet? New shoes, babies?

Talking about new shoes....I've been eyeing this bag but...on second thought, maybe I should just eye it longer. This greed for new stuff is not very healthy, is it? Shoes, bags, men...tsk tsk tsk.

Okay.
Moving on to the less frivolous things in life...
...but not necessarily more exciting ones.

I've been given the green light to teach Monash College (it was the University last time and now, the college) and maybe I should feel happy because it will colour my portfolio but damn, where's the area of specialisation?

I feel like a whore who is denied the choice of customers.

So cheap and so dirty.

Teacher I need you

This blog is almost going down the way of the dodo birds.
If that's the case, it's going to be a sad day for all.

I'll no longer have a creative outlet (well...somewhat. come on!)and I should quit calling myself la boheme. Already I have stopped writing short stories, vignettes, poetry, haikus, sonnets (ahem!) and from the look of it, blog entries will eventually ceased. I have even stopped penning bawdy, ribald pseudo-drunk Irish hoedowns. I am this close to not writing anything. That's sad. Writing emails to The Gulag might just be the only form of writing left. And that's horribly fucked up.

Some people say that writing a blog is a "working-man's unpolished way of being creative". Well, call it what you want but to write something somewhere is better than not to write at all. There are some people ("purists" they claim) who say that blogging is just attention-seeking and is soulless. Yeah, I'm sure Shakespeare didnt do it for the money and fame, eh? These people are like those members of the Dogme 1995 movement. Self-righteous. Pooh. I rather fuck an agnostic than a self-righteous person. Er..hmm.

Where was I? Ah, self-righteous people who consider blogging as a journalistic blasphemy. The point here is...fuck these self-righteous pricks.

I dont know what kind of a rotten person I have become. I dont like know-it-alls. I dont like people preaching of anything. I dont like people who speak of their joy or misery incessantly. I dont do the whole share-and-care nonsense because at the end of the day, people expect predictable answers from you. They dont need a different opinion, they just want you to agree with theirs. I dont want answers for every question I pose. Sometimes, the truth lies in the wind, or in the ambiguity of the situation. People shouldnt have to say to anything. If there's nothing to say, then dont. The world is a noisy place as it is already.

Writing doesnt make much noise.
Why cant people just write?

So yeah, I've reached a dilemma. As an educator, how can I not preach and just ... teach? How do I make sure that the things I say are not indulgent and yet, passionate? How do I make sure that I dont fall into that self-righteous educator category? Cause by God (my God...and I dont care what/who your God is), being self-righteous is disgusting.

Abstinence good, sex bad
Work good, play bad
Frugal good, spendthrift bad
Religious good, hedonism bad
Heterosexuality good, homosexuality bad
Marriage good, cohabitation bad
Pregnancy good, abortion bad

You know what, let people lead their own lives. Share your experiences and thoughts, if you will but dont impose. We all have our own beliefs, in one way or another. Who are we to judge?

So Ed, share the experience and thoughts.
Do not impose your views.
Let these students make their own choices.

“Teachers teach more by what they are than by what they say,” some say. It wont help if I'm self-righteous. So stop me, if I show signs that I am.

Love.

P/S: I just wanted to write something to tell you that I am still alive (though barely). See what this entry has since evolved into? An entry of nothing. A rambling of nothing...of epic Seinfeld-proportion. Oh well.

All the way to Reno (You're gonna be a star)

All right, the Perth pictures are up here and here.

I know the pictures are grainy and all but...what more can I expect out of a handphone camera, right? Meiling will have better shots but till I get them from her, these grainy bits will have to do.

Enjoy.

P/S: Watching Carling Cup final. Come on MAN U!!

Fixing a hole

Ed: Eh, our company has no "lo hei" is it?

ET: No...our boss expected us to work over the CNY holidays. You want to "lo what hei"? Lo hei your balls, ah!

Ed: Lo hei your balls!!!^%%$ HAHAHAHAHAH!!

Hanging on a telephone

Wh-what? I have a blog?
You don't say!

The sucky thing about being on a holiday, even if it was for just 5 days, is its post-effect. The act of trying to sync your mind and body to your normal doldrums of nothing-matter can be so horrifyingly laborious. The emails stacked up like crazy even though it's the holidays and no one was supposed to be working.

So yeah been catchingup on work a lot...and there's Sha's lovely wedding over last weekend. So...hang on there. This weekend will bring in some pictures.

Han on.

One time

It's 0400hrs Monday morning and ...ah, work is officially starting in 5 hours' time. Just done with the lesson prep and also my 2hr of passing out on the bedroom floor. Yes...I'm older but nothing much has changed when it comes to sleeping pattern.

There's going to be a flurry of backlog pictures ... soon; Sha's hen party on a yacht two Fridays ago, Perth pics, Sha's solemnisation on Saturday, Sha's lunch reception and her dinner @ Fort Canning just now.

The wedding was tastefully done and here's my big congratulations to our dearest Sha and Alfie. May they live happily ever after :) The wedding dinner, with its initial organised chaos, turned out fantastic. Everything was nicely done and..Mail and Lisa, the song you guys sang rocked.

Anyway, more updates soon. It's going to be a long day tomorrow...hopefully it is not dreadful.

Oh yes, congratulations to another not-so-blushing (hehe) bride - Gladys Hrabi!!

What can I do - Perth Day 3, 4 and 5

17th Feb 2010: Day 3

Day 3 was spent in Fremantle. We got there early at 1030hrs and by noon, we did quite a damage to our pockets (though I had no idea on what). Obviously, we didnt take many photos. The Fremantle market was closed, it being a weekday and all, but we did spend some time cruising down the rest of the shops. At about 1330hrs, we sought refuge at the big park nearby. I love the park culture in Aussie. You just do your stuff - practise lasso, sleep, read or like me...sit and daydream.

We had late lunch (cum brekkie cum dinner) at Ciccerello's where I had my standard seafood chowder and of course...those big ass fish and chips. Surrounded by the seagulls, Meiling and I ate till we almost died. And then we ate again.

Full...and walked slowly back to the train station. We did a quick stop at Harbourtown...didnt spend much and then headed ''home''. Nothing outstanding but I was broke and tired.

Have been staying in our room. It's nice and cosy and ...ah, Two and A Half Men on telly. Our personal telly. Tomorrow, crap..we have to return to the bloody dorm.

P/S: Shira, your lame friend added me on Facebook. In his silly big-small alphabet spelling/grammar, he asked me if I were really a lecturer and...classic...what does a lecturer do. What does a lecturer do????? I shear sheep for wool!!

P/P/S: No...I havent replied him. Maybe I should say that.

18th Feb 2010: Day 4

So here I am ...day 4 in Perth.

We spent the whole day resting and relaxing, not that the previous days had been strenuous. Checked out of our private room and got back to the dorm.

Goodbye, personal room...

...and hello again, dorm.

After that, in the searing sun, we made our way to the WA Museum and stayed there for almost 2.5hrs. I've been there many times but it's still a wonder to me.

Thanks, Thoreau.
Love the last quote.

After that...wahahaha...we popped by Sportsgirl and unfortunately, there's nothing much that I could buy/afford. Those on sale were bleargh...those which were not were...out of my pockets' league.

Lunch at 1445hrs was at McDonalds and then we made our way to the Esplanade/Swan River (again) to laze and read our books (The Motorcycle Diaries for me!). We sat by the waters till 1900hrs; toasting gently at first and then freezing.

We walked back at dusk...walked past the dear old Dada Records. Didnt step in...no more money. Dinner was at the ever-reliable Insan's Cafe (where the late auntie loved to eat) and then here we are...at Exomod Cafe, full from dinner but there's free wifi. So....

Going home tomorrow. Flight is at 1500hrs and by 2000hrs I would be back. I like Perth as much as I like travelling, but I love to come home the most.

...

It's almost midnight and there's some party going on at the lounge area of the hostel. Grr. So noisy.

Oh on our way back from Exomod, we heard some loud firework noises. As we were approaching our hostel, we saw some flashes of light at the end of the far road. No idea what was going on though...

Meiling and I are on one bed because she is charging her laptop and she cannot do it if she's on the upper bunk. Me? I'm not the upper bunk kind of person. I cannot sleep when the light is on. So hahaha...we're bunking on one bed. Think some of the girls are giving us the weird look.

Tough.

19th Feb 2010: Day 5

At the airport now...almost time to go.

We checked out of Hotel (hotel? right!) Bambu at 1015hrs and then we carried our bags to Medy's cafe. She wanted us to have our final meal..lunch there. But Meiling and I figured it was still too early for lunch so we dumped our bags there for a while and headed to the Western Australia Arts Museum to check out some paintings and sculptures. Cool stuff.

We returned an hour later. We had about 40 minutes left so we gobbled the sumptuous food Medy laid out for us. Again, I forgot to take pictures with her. WTF, Ed!

Medy also gave me a box of figs for the parents.
Thanks!!!!

Our airport shuttle soon came at noon and ...haha off we went. The bus went around Perth City for quite a while, picking up other passengers. Managed to drive past some "nostalgic" spots, like The City Waters Apartment and Goodearth Hotel. The late auntie came and stayed at the apartment in 2002 while the parents and I stayed in Goodearth in 2006.

Goodbye Hay Street
Goodbye Swan River
Goodbye TransPerth
Goodbye Fast Eddy's
Goodbye multi-crossing pedestrians
Goodbye

All right, it's time to board the plane (Qantas, by the way, with old stewards and stewardesses). That's the end of my short Perthian trip. See you in Singapore.

The end.
