Car wash!

I managed to actually operate the washing machine and do the laundry. Yes, say whatever you want but I have this irrational hate and fear about washing machines. And no, I don't wash my own clothes cause the father is a control freak who needs to do everything his way, his style, his pace. He doesn't trust that we will do things well, see.

Now you know where I get my pessimism from.
Sheesh.

But anyway...the dried clothes are folded, the washed ones are hung to dry. Yesterday's leftovers have been discarded and the pots and pans have been washed. I cannot believe I actually took a half-day leave to do that. Granted I need to use my 1/2 day of compensated leave but..I initially wanted to use it rocking out on Guitar Hero.

Tomorrow then.

Okay. Shall go meet Sharinah and Meiling for dinner.

Beating up the beat

Watched Sex & the City 2 with 2 colleagues last Thursday and while I missed those 4 crazy New Yorkers, I was disappointed with this sequel. Ladies, there's frivolous (which was fabulous at first) and then, there's ridiculous. The film was treading on a really fine line there. Abu-Dhabi-doo, indeed.

Then today, after finally picking myself off the floor (cause I spent the whole afternoon rotting and watching Jersey Shore marathon), I met Lauren and Meiling at AMK Hub and we caught Prince Of Persia. Jake Gyllenho-ho-ho, baby!

The film is all right. Definitely more entertaining than SATC2. Don't dig the hairdo, Jake... but, hmm mmm, that body can come home to me :)

Then I got back...I got Jersey Shore-d again. Damn you MTV!

Somebody posted a comment on this YouTube page and damn, it was spot on:

"too late anyone who watches this is already a vegetable!"

Yes baby, I am Kinky Kai Lan coming at you.
Fist pump!

They are stupid. But at least, they don't pretend being smart. Where can you find such honesty and simple living? Hahah, only on Jersey Shore!

Waka waka

I am at the airport now...sending the uncle and auntie off as they depart to the holy land. I am early. The mother said she would be here at 1600hrs but...damns, she just left home 10 minutes ago. I should have stayed in the office till later.

It's uber crowded here in terminal one. I am sitting at the arrival floor instead cause there are just too many people upstairs. Everybody is going somewhere. Are you?

I am quite miserable now as the cough is getting quite persistent. The swollen left eye turns out to be a sty and is getting annoying as it is painful. Note go self: Throw away all eye make-up and buy new ones.

The family is going Genting tomorrow. From tomorrow till Friday, I have no immediate family members in Singapore; even the brother and family are going. I've never been alone at home for such a long time actually. Damn, no boyfriend!

Haha. Like that's my utmost concern. It's laundry and dinners, man.

I am not spoilt but it's uneconomical to wash and cook for one. Oh well.

Hungry.

P/S: No...that doesn't mean I should cook or wash for you.

One step at a time

I found 3 perfect choices should I want to pursue my Masters.

1. MA in Asian Art Histories - La Salle Singapore
2. MA in New Media, Governance & Democracy - University of Leicester (via distance learning)
3. MA in Writing - Edith Cowan University (the alma mater...via distance learning)

I have given up on local govt-backed universities. It's either that a) I'll never be good enough for them, b) I hate the unit combinations or worst of all, c) both. This issue has been bugging me for 2 years and well, it definitely questioned my self-worth and pride many times. Rejections can make you feel like crap and there's only so much one can take, right?

Wrong.
Rejections, demoralising..sure. But I guess I have to just keep finding.

You know, out of the 3 choices listed above, the first one is actually the most expensive. But, that's the one I am most interested in. I think the other 2 will be less of a challenge for me. Aisey...

All right. Next step is to apply and wait for the usual rejection-acceptance. I have been so immuned to rejections to the point that if someone were to accept me, I'll probably say, "No, I won't take it now."  See how mess-up I am?

Okay once the next step is done, I need to pool the money somehow. Maybe I have to resort to borrowing from the Bank of Wahab (a.k.a the father, lah!) and then sign a contract of eternal companionship with the parents. Damn.

One step at a time, Ed.
One at a time.

Why don't you love me?

Honestly, I am tired of her burlesque persona. Where is the "street", girlfriend? Give me back the street. Oh..you have gotten all grown-up on me now?

But I still love the song :)

I got beauty I got heart
Keep my head in them books I'm sharp
But you dont' care to know I'm smart

I got moves in your bedroom
Keep you happy with the nasty things I do
But you don't seem to be in tune.

Why don't you love me?
Tell me baby why don't you love me?
When I make me so damn easy to love?

Why don't you need me?
Tell me baby why don't you need me?
When I make me so damn easy to need.

:)

Loose ends

Where are we?
What the hell is going on?
The dust has only just begun to form
Crop circles in the carpet
Sinking feeling

Spin me round again
And rub my eyes,
This can't be happening
When busy streets amass with people
Would stop to hold their heads heavy

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
All those years
They were here first

Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments
Hung before the takeover,
The sweeping insensitivity of this still life

Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines (oh, you won't catch me around here)
Blood and tears (hearts)
They were here first

Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmm that you only meant well?
Well of course you did
Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmmm that it's all for the best?
Of course it is
Mmmm whatcha say?
Mmmm that it's just what we need
You decided this
Whatcha say?
Mmmm what did she say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling no I don't believe you
You don't care a bit,
You don't care a bit

Hide and seek
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs

Hide and seek
Speak no feeling no I don't believe you
You don't care a bit,
You don't care a (you don't care a) bit
Hide and seek
Oh no, you don't care a bit
Oh no, you don't care a bit

Not myself tonight

She's trying too hard as always on the MTV. But come on, her pipes are insane.

I meant the voice.

Dear John

Dear Gulag,

The past 5 months, we had been slogging hard at work. I was so stressed out and my hair fell off. Life at work was miserable and everyone was freaking grouchy.

Fortunately, we've got wind of this piece of good news yesterday.

With this news, does it mean that my air fare to Barcelona will be fully-funded by you?

Please?

Your slave,

Ed

P/S: This song has been in my head this morning. It's not about the content for sure. Maybe I'm just missing some good old country music.

Gypsy

I am totally in love with this song. Yes, I have always been intrigued by the gypsy-bohemian culture but that has nothing to do with this song. It's just so laidback. Loves it.

..........

Broke my heart down the road
Spend the weekend
Sewing the pieces back on
Crayons and dolls pass me by
Walking gets too boring
When you learn how to fly

Not the homecoming kind
Take the top off
And who knows what you might find
Won't confess all my sins
You can bet I'll try it
But I can't always win

'Cause I'm a gypsy
But are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already hurt me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy

I can't hide what I've done
Scars remind me
Of just how far that I've come
To whom it may concern
Only run with scissors
When you want to get hurt

'Cause I'm a gypsy
But are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already hurt me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy

I said hey you
You're no fool
If you say 'NO'
Ain't it just the way life goes?
People fear what they don't know
Come along for the ride
Come along for the ride

'Cause I'm a gypsy
But are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes
And wear them if they fit me
I never made agreements
Just like a gypsy
And I won't back down
'Cause life's already hurt me
And I won't cry
I'm too young to die
If you're gonna quit me
'Cause I'm a gypsy

....

I am always that gypsy-like girl, I suppose.

Hungry heart

Dropped off your keys last night
The front door still unpainted
You were polite like ice
I, once could met it

You took our pictures down
And you left them on the ground
It's like you wiped all the memories
Of what we used to be...
You and me, before it all crashed down

And I know I never told you
That I love you
Now it's all too late
And I don't know how to hold you
But I want to
I don't want to leave this way
All I know..
Is broken

I heard your voice break, when you said,
"Well I hope you're happy"
Nothin' to say, I'll stare
Straight into my coffee

Then the conversation changed
How we talked around the blame
And the pain of losing
All of the good times lost
When it all crashed down

And I know I never told you
That I love you
Now it's all too late
And I don't know how to hold you
But I want to
I don't want to leave this way
All I know...
Is broken

Well I'm here if you need me
I know you don't believe me
Well I'm so sorry
For all the pain I've caused
Ho-oohhhhh...

And I know I never told you
That I love you
Now it's all too late
And I don't know how to hold you
But I want to
I don't want to leave this way
All I know...
Is broken

Yay.

Oh this is my current ultimate lepak-sampai-mampus song.

Savvy.

Airplanes

It's Tuesday and I've been back for 2 days already. Though the body is physically here, the mind is still travelling on a slow boat on the South China Sea back to Singapore.

The skin is beginning to itch. It's always the case when bare skin comes in contact with sand. I think I should be getting some "Muslimah" swimwear soon...covering myself from head to toe. "Halal", yes...and sand allergy away also. Hmmm.

In the meantime, wait.

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now
(wish right now, wish right now)

Hey soul sister

In 3 hours' time, I'm leaving for a flash trip to Tioman. My two friends and I have been talking about a trip together for the longest time. We planned things but somehow they didnt work out.

For this trip, we faced some obstacles. We didnt intend to end up at the resort where we will be staying. We intended something cheaper but there was no more availability. We wanted to cancel the trip plus, one of my friends received a piece of news that her ex boyfriend had died and she was so so so so devastated. So we thought...okay good, the trip's cancelled and she can go back Thailand to bid her last goodbye.

Then she mentioned about not wanting to go back...and needed to get away to ease her mind. So yes, the trip is back on.

So for the next three days, I will be sleeping here.

....and with that, I am broke for the month and the next :(

Oh oh!

I caught Iron Man 2 last Sunday and I thought I would go deaf there and then in the theatre! Yes it was enjoyable and RDJ was so freaking dishy. But one thing...there were so many cut scenes which were shown in the trailer but and I kind of felt cheated. Damn.

Then on Tuesday, I saw this movie and well, I actually thought that it's better than both Ip Man 2 and Iron Man 2. Of course the genre is different but in terms of everything else, I think it was funny and smart.

Or I am just a sucker for realistic film with a little Sam Mendes' magic.

I would recommend AWAY WE GO to friends who are about to have their first child (you Sharinah! You, Raftah!) and those who are new in relationships and marriage. It addresses the fear and insecurity about fucking everything up. And still being funny.

It kind of makes me want to go out there and fall in love :)

Love takes over me

Something made me revisit Queen Kylie again and as always, the first one I'll look for will always be Your Disco Needs You. I found this one, performed last year in Chicago. Think there was a technical glitch and so, Queen had to sing without music. The crowd wanted her to sing this song and...just wait till the opera comes at the 3:40 mark.

I LOVE YOU, KYLIE!!!!

"Vous êtes jamais seuls
Vous savez ce qu'il faut faire
Ne laissez pas tomber votre nation
La disco a besoin de vous!"

P/S: If I were a boy, I'd be gay.

There's no business like show business

I conducted a short acting and directing class just now and we covered method acting among other things.

While doing some Stanislavski and Strasberg method exercises, I think I tapped an old memory and fell into "character" there and then. I got slightly teary and I think some students were taken a little aback. I shocked myself also...and *poof* snapped out of the zone.

"There's no people like show people
They smile when they are low
Yesterday they told you you would not go far
That night you open and there you are
Next day on your dressing room they've hung a star
Let's go on with the show..."

Issues, man.

Say it isn't so

Why do I always get myself into such a mess?

I remember having a somewhat similar talk last year and well, the attendance was a dismal. For those who attended, thank you very much. So, I thought, that's it. no more.

But urgh holy mother cow batman spider, I have to do another one this year. Out of all the topics I could choose, I decided to do films. A wise decision? I dont know and frankly, what else?

Imagine how boring it would be if I were to talk about journalism or editing. It's just an hour talk so I guess, I can incorporate my European Cinema+Film Studies knowledge and condense them into an hour of power-pack presentation.

Power-pack, my ass.

Gah. Maybe no one will turn up.

Oh well.

...

On another note, I caught Ip Man 2 on Sunday evening and aaaaaaaaaaah, I love it I love it I love!

Sure, the nationalistic plot is cliched and the characters can get damn wooden sometimes, but...it's highly enjoyable. One thing I must comment: there were too many 360degree shots. Enough already. At one point, the camera was revolving too fast that the shot got out of focus. No, it was not meant to be blurry.

Anyhow, as I am biased (cause (1) I like HK shows and (2)gongfu shows rock my not-so-tight ass off), I'll tell you that Ip Man 1 and Ip Man 2 are one of the best action flicks I've seen. I like them so much, I'm going to add them on my "Favourite" list on Facebook.

Cause it's very important like that.

Okay. Shut up.

My love is your love

Hello, how are you?

The crazy shit at work has just passed. The audit/assessment is over and I think there's a general sense of relief in the air. Even The Gulag is smiling and laughing. I am, of course, very relieved.

Still, apart from that, nothing else has changed. Lessons have to be prepared, assignments still need to be set and (oh my god), textbooks still have to be made by the dozens. And then, assignments need to be marked, reports need to be made, meetings need to be held and then...back to the first cycle. In-between, you throw in sickness, travel (if applicable), movies and eventual death.

Death.
You cannot avoid it.
Something's, somewhere and somehow, got to go.
