I've been on the computer since 1100hrs and am reasonably nauseous from the screen glare. Alas, work is unfinished cause I am unfocused and distracted.
Anyway in the spirit of globalised marketing effort of Christmas, here's a contribution on my part. Heh :)
10 points you should know about Muslims and Jesus
By Sound Vision Staff Writer
1. Muslims love Jesus. We also love Abraham, Moses, and Noah, to name just a few other Prophets Muslims revere. May God's peace be upon all of these great messengers of God.
2. Muslims also love the mother of Jesus, the Virgin Mary. We believe she was a pious and noble woman chosen over all of the women of the world.
3. Muslims believe that Jesus was born miraculously of a virgin mother and no father. His birth is miraculous like the birth of Adam, the first human being, who was created with neither mother nor father.
4. Muslims do not believe that Jesus was the son of God. God is so powerful and self-sufficient that He does not need a son or any kind of partner.
5. In Arabic Bible the name for God is Allah. Therefore all Arab Christian call God Allah as Muslim do as well.
6. Jesus did not die on the cross. Rather, God saved him as his enemies were confused about him. Jesus was taken up by God to Heaven.
7. Jesus is called Isa (pronounced Eesa) in Arabic.
8. Jesus performed miracles by the Will of God, like healing the blind and those with leprosy.
9. Jesus prayed to the same God as all Prophets and we pray to.
10.Jesus will return before the end of the world.
Atheists and pagans aside, most of us have Allah in our hearts.
That's good to know ;)
Merry Christmas, my Christian friends!

(Making love) Out of nothing at all
Reached home at about 1430hrs with a burning face. Shouldnt have stayed that long at the pool. Met the girls in the late afternoon at Dhoby Ghaut's TCC. Liah and Noreen couldnt stay for long. The former had another gathering while Noreen got increasingly sick by the minutes so we persuaded her to go home.
I normally take pictures with my mobile but somehow I didnt do much yesterday. Guess it was partly because Liah sprang out her camera haha.

The only shot I had from the gathering at TCC - Liah and I.
Will wait for those taken on Liah's camera.
Clara, Weiling and I then hopped over to Dorothy Perkins cause they wanted to get jeans and they wanted my ..discount card. We then made our way to Orchard's Ming Arcade for, of all things, karaoke. The branch at Apollo Centre (yeah Cash Studio, my usual haunt I guess) was all booked out till 2200hrs and we didnt want to go back past midnight cause we were too cheap for cab.

1st hour...SING! SING!
2nd hour...sing
3rd hour...oi, sing leh!

The face started to sting real bad
We skipped/hopped to the MRT station after that and voila...day's over.
And I havent done any work.
P/S: I make a mean Bono impression, okay! My voice went ridiculously low on U2's With Or Without You haha.

Sea of love
Dragged my ass out of bed early and zombied my way to Meiling's void deck.

Sleepyh(ed): Where isWally Meiling?

Ah...finally.
We spent the whole morning swimming and soaking like hippos. Or beached whales, whatever rocks your boat. Yes, exercise and sun for the reclusive nocturnal me.
Now, am getting ready to meet the gurlies. All have been asking for their very very belated birthday presents before the year draws to a close. I am kind of tired and my work is mounting but...this, attendance is compulsory. Haha.
Later.

God rest ye merry gentlemen
Can Uncle Fergie take some really drastic actions?
The Man U players in question are really scums. These people have really lost the value of money and have no respect for women. These douchebags treat women like dirt and they think that since they are god damn famous, they can do whatever shit they like.
They think that just because these women fall at their feet, they can treat them like crap? Just because these women are easily lured by a quick ticket to "stardom", it doesnt mean that these men should take advantage of it. What about their bloody WAGs? These WAGS...they rather keep quiet, take in the rolling dough and let their men shag their wannabe proteges! Perish in hell, adulterers.
This makes me boiling mad.
Bloody (red) devils, sons of satan.
This...coming from a Man U fan.

Too Much Love Will Kill You
I woke up early considering that I slept at almost daybreak. Gave Meiling my word that I would meet her before noon.

GOOD LUCK CHUCK wasnt in the plans. After watching it, I am still rooting my grounds. I mean, I like idiotic fuck-shit humour just like the next 15-year-old horny boy, but oh come on....
xxxxxxxxxxx
Stu: I'd suck a fart out her asshole and hold it like a bong hit.
....
Charlie: Don't look at me in that tone of voice.
xxxxxxxxxxx
Jessica Alba is somewhat hot, we all know that. But I do believe she has no comic timing in her bone. She is wooden and her breeziness seems put-on. Stand-up comedian Dane Cook is just one crazy monkey on speed, a Jim Carrey wannabe. His lack of chemistry with Alba emphasised his 2nd rate aura ... behind the likes of Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Carrey, Steve Carrell and Will Ferrell.
Just like most romantic comedies, Good Luck Chuck does have its aww-so-sweet moments. However, these are a few. There are too many unnecessary fucking scenes which dont help the story at all. I know sex sells and I am sure the many men in the theatre enjoy it but too much of a (supposed) good thing spoils the experience, right?
This film wants to go along the way of Something About Mary, 50 First Dates...but it's just like American Pie 3 to me. I had more laughs watching Dude, Where's My Car?. But, let me reiterate. Jessica Alba is hot.
Guess with that, logic goes out of the window.

Meiling and I hung out at Plaza Singapura the whole afternoon. Finally bought her a (very very) belated birthday gift which did dent my pocket. Serves me right for being ever so tardy.
In my previous entry, I did mention meeting Meiling hoping that she could inject her grrl power to me. I was wrong, though. Throughout the whole day, I was rained with stories of her online dating experience. O me, o my!
Guess everyone needs a little attention and some loving sometimes.
Off to find me my own respite.
A thousand times goodnight, wind chimes and talkers.
P/S: Jay+Jo, sorry had to can our plan. Susan, sorry couldnt come over. Got last minute stuff. Dreary, indeed.
P/P/S: Shall go swimming later.

Three Little Birds
Just one of those times.
Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on
Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on
Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball
Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on
Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball
Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage
Teach me to be shy
'Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just don't know
Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball - Cannonball, Damien Rice
Am on my break but I have prepared to do work from home. I need to do some marking and finishing up a textbook. However, it's the 2nd day of my break and I havent got the slightest motivation to do any work. It's like ... I've had enough? I shouldnt be having this feeling, I know. I just need a little inspiration.

Need my nature fix desperately.
Fifi is going to Mount Kinabalu in June and..eurgh...envy. I know I am planning to hit New York in May but nothing..and I really mean nothing...gives me more satisfaction than scaling new heights and being surrounded by lush greenery and spectacular waters. Used to get my nature fix every year but this year, didnt quite happen.
Hope the September Tioman trip can work out with the Moonies. Otherwise it has to be Pulau Ubin, Sungei Buloh, Tree top walk, YCK swimming pool and the various local beaches. I need sweating kakis. It's boring to do all these alone.

When can I go back?
Nature yearning aside, yesterday was Hari Raya Haji and I did the usual visiting and haha, money giving :) The auntie sized me up and did the usual interrogation.
Auntie: Eh your sister is attached?
Ed: Yeah...
Auntie: You?
Ed: No...
Auntie: [came closer and whispered] Don't bluff. You can tell me.
Ed: [came even closer and whispered] Dont have, no bluff.
I cannot even imagine what's it going to be like at my brother's wedding next year. Can I just curl up and die?
Please let me curl up and die.
Okay I am exaggerating. Life will be okay. Like the great Bob Marley said, "Don't worry about a thing cause every little thing is gonna be alright."
All I need is sleep and rest to clear the clutter in my head.
Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright
Singin': Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright
Rise up this mornin'
Smiled with the risin' sun
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true
Sayin' "This is my message to you-ou-ou"
Singin': Don't worry 'bout a thing
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright
Singin': Don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright
A thousand times goodnight, comforting soothsayers.
P/S: Meiling wants to watch Good Luck Chuck tomorrow. I'm not feeling it but I've given her my word.

Smokestack Lightning
Had the very rare chance (like chancing upon fossils) of meeting up with Din and Firman. We caught a show at the Hub just now.

NATIONAL TREASURE:BOOKS OF SECRETS boasts an all-star cast of Nicholas Cage (cant stand him), Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Helen Mirren, Ed Harris and Harvey Keitel. However those names fail to lift this film to new heights.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ben Gates: [underground in the Hall of Records in Mt. Rushmore] Riley, what do see?
Riley Poole: Death and despair! Mostly death. I mean a little despair, last few seconds. But then a hard sudden death.
....
Riley Poole: So let's recap: We've broken into Buckingham Palace, and the Oval Office, stolen a page from the President's super-secret book, and actually kidnapped the President of the United States. What are we gonna do next, short-sheet the Pope's bed?
Ben Gates: Well, you never know.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Some of you may have heard of my utter disdain for Nicholas Cage. How could someone that fugly and wooden get to be the lead? Sometimes I wonder too.
But it was a must for me to catch National Treasure 2 because as much as I hate to admit it, I really enjoyed watching the first instalment. So when the trailer for NT2 came out, I thought "Hey, maybe it is as good as the first one. Let's see!" And besides, I really like anything which has something to do with history and treasure.

Puzzles, riddles and eventually treasure.
I like.
However, National Treasure 2, though entertaining, one cant help feeling a certain been-there-done-that. The plot is exactly like the first one, down to the inept baddies. It gives the Lara Croft-Raiders of the Lost Ark kind of feel, only cheesier. Reason being that this is a Disney production. The route to the treasure is also a bit unbelievable. I mean, the first one is a fantasy but at least, it has the potential to be real. This one is laughable.
Anyway, NT2 is not that bad as it does entertain. It has witty liners that may have gone unnoticed so do prick your ears. Like I Am Legend, character and plot developments arent really the priority. A pity cause NT2 has really good cast. This film is still way better than The Hitman and yeah, it beats being at home during this festive season.
I tried though.
I really dont like Nicholas Cage.

The Redemption Song
Like I mentioned earlier, I attended a gala premier last Tuesday night at Vivo.

I AM LEGEND starts in the US as one of the biggest openers this year and well, after 100 minutes of the show, I can imagine why. It's gripping. And urgh...the rest of the shows in the cinemas right now dont sound so appealing.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Neville: He believed that he could cure racism and hate - literally, cure it - by injecting music and love into people's lives. One day he was scheduled to perform at a peace rally, gunmen came to his house and shot him down. Two days later, he walked out on that stage and sang. Somebody asked him, why? He said, The people who are trying to make this world worse are not taking a day off... How can I? Light up the darkness.
......
Neville: My name is Robert Nevile. I am a survivor living in New York City. I haven't seen another person in three years. If there is anybody out there. Anybody. Please.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I Am Legend is not as great as the greatest show you've ever seen in your life. Have you even had that experience before? It has many potential to be an even greater show should there be more character and plot developments. At 100 minutes, it can even go a bit longer. This is just like Spiderman 3 where we are left at the end of the movie wondering...why? how? where? how? how? how?
But again, I can see why this film is a hit. It has Will Smith, who is going the way of Denzel Washington --> black hero. It is pacy and action-packed. It has scary mutants and that is unexpected. I didnt know that there is a scary element in the show and boy...I almost wet my pants. But then again, I'm a chicken...

Scared chicken shit!
I was curled up like a prawn beside Meiling in the cinema. At the scariest point, everything went dark and blank cause I covered my face. So yeah, I didnt really see so dont bother asking me.
Anyway, Will Smith is brilliant in the film and he emotes damn well though I feel the millions he is getting arent really justified. Give me time and I can also act like him ahahaha. Still I Am Legend promises a good ride. It's not Oscar-worthy but hey, it's one of the best zombie shows i've ever seen. To me, the best is still the original Night of the Living Dead ... just because it has many subliminal messages and that I did well in my Film Studies project analysing it. Heh.
And oh...using Bob Marley's songs sure is attractive to me.

When I'm Gone
Tuesday was a fiasco all right. The mother, brother and sister got up really early at 0600+hrs to get ready to the hospital. We got back from there at 2300hrs the night before so yeah...we were quite beat.
The father's bypass operation was supposed to be done at 1100hrs but at 1030hrs, the doctor came up to us and said that there were no more beds in ICU and so the op had to be posponed. We didnt know what to feel. A bit disappointed, I guess, cause everyone was psyched for the op to happen.
The father was discharged at 1300hrs and together with Wak Long, we all went to Arab Street's Hajah Maimunah for lunch.

Siput sedut ...suckable snails?
I didnt touch this one

Arrr yum.
Got home at abt 1530hrs and fell asleep from exhaustion.
Shall blog about I AM LEGEND tomorrow. It's 0405hrs and am too tired already.
Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha to my Muslim friends.
A thousand times goodnight, silenced lambs and frightened mutton.
P/S: I Am Legend was brilliant.

Gimme hope Joanna
Okay the father is at home.
There's no bed for him in ICU so they postponed the op to 15th January.
I'll be celebrating my 28th birthday in the hospital next month.
Shall talk more about the postponement later.
Tired.

Don't go breaking my heart
The father saw me throw 6 pairs of shoes last Saturday morning.

And so, yesterday, he bought me these.
Not a fan of Crocs, but hey, if he's buying, I'm taking.

Hate to admit but..Crocs are comfy.
I also got a jacket and a silly-looking dress from the father. The sister got some rings and stuff. He even bugged me to get a diamond ring but I didnt fancy any. Why the generosity? I guess he wanted to get something nice for us before he checked into the hospital and have his heart bypass operation. Ho hum.
Mentioning Saturday morning, it was the Moonie event of the year..Jay+Jo's wedding. I woke up at 1000hrs and decided to go to the cobbler's with 4 pairs of broken shoes. 3 pairs could be saved. The other one pair...still in limbo. Anyway, I had to have at least one pair fixed cause otherwise, i wouldnt have any shoes to wear to the wedding.
At 1130hrs I was still at AMK Central. Started to panic cause I was supposed to be at the church at 1215hrs. When the cobbler was done with the final pair at 1145hrs, I ran all the way back home, grabbed a dress, popped in the contact lenses, dabbed on the powder and mascara...and ran all the way down with high heels in my hand. Lauren was downstairs in a cab at noon. Crazy onions!

Lauren and I were the door bitches at the wedding.
We took the ang pow before letting people in.
Heh.

Groom Jason (right) and one of his "brothers".
Nice pose, guys.
"Nice".
Soon the rest of the moonies - Ismail, Tini, Sean, Susan, Sha, Alfie - came and joined us at the door. Nani and Andrew were late while Grace...overslept.
At 1315hrs, the programme started with someone singing and all. Soon, we saw the bridal car with Jo in it.

Susan and I posed with Jo the Bride.
Anyway, the ceremony went well with Jason throwing in a surprise item for his bride and guests - a song from Michael Buble entitled That's All. Soon the ceremony ended and that was a cue to camwhore.
These are just samples from the many poses we had.

Everyone was with his/her respective partner.
Mine was ...err... Lauren.

Tini, Lauren, Nani, Jo, Ed, Sha, Susan
One of these kids is not like the other
One of these kids is not the same
One of these kids is not like the other
Now it's time to play our game
It's time to play our game

With the bridal car.
After that, we attacked the buffet line. Think we were hogging the dessert table. The cakes and mini sandwiches were so yummy.
We left the church at Kovan around 1500hrs and we headed to Starbucks at the Central Mall down at Clarke Quay where Grace joined us and Nani left us for work. Sha and Alfie didnt join cause they had another wedding to attend. We had a dinner reservation at 1930hrs at Kintamani Restaurant @ Furama Riverfront. So we decided to kill time at Starbucks. Too long a time actually.

Didnt take many pictures at the Indon resturant.
However, the food was great.
Jay and Jo could only join us around 2035hrs but wahey, I was glad that they turned up at all. Was too busy eating and yakking and we didnt take shots. Am still waiting for pictures from Mail and Sha though.
Went over to Grace's new place slightly past 2200hrs to scout the bbq area for our NYE party. Mail, Tini, Jay and Jo left soon after while Sean, Susan, Lauren and I were stuck to Grace's Nintendo Wii game till 0230hrs in the morning playing this silly but entertaining rabbit game. Came home with aching arms, no thanks to the manic hand motions.

Wii wii.
Well, we were screaming, dancing, stomping and running all around the house laughing our asses off at two in the morning. I want to get Wii too...

...and then my friends will never seem me
...and I'll never see daylight again.
Awrite awrite. It's time to retire. Need to get to the hospital bright and early later. The father is having his heart bypass operation tomorrow at SGH and ... sigh... I dont know what's going to happen after that. He can be hospitalised for at least 2 weeks to a maximum of 1 month (like my auntie).

His operation is scheduled at 1100hrs and it will take about 4-5 hours. After that, his unconscious body will be whisked to the ICU for a couple of days. At this period, he will have scary-looking devices attached to his body. I dont know if I can stomach this sight. I am just afraid I will break down seeing him attached helplessly to the devices.
I dont like a helpless father and I dont like scary-looking devices.
Pray for things to run smooth. Thank you.
A thousand times goodnight, well-wishers and cardiologists.
P/S: Think I will take a walk around VivoCity while the father is in the operating theatre. Need to calm down in a contained, air-conditioned place.

Lauren.
