Lobster mobster's mob

Last Saturday was the Krabby Patty day and after work, I brought the gang to Mellben. But the queue was snaking and apparently, it would take you 1.5 hours to get a table. Crazy. That's 90 minutes too long for the hungry.

So we adjourned to Uncle Leong Seafood, Mellben's evil twin brother. Lesser people, no queue. The rest got their Tsingtao, I got me Coke and we all had crabs (black pepper, butter and claypot bee hoon), tofu and mantous (buns).

Post-crabs, the table looked like a natural disaster area.

Pocket-wise, the total damage was around $140 for 5 people.

We walked to the AMK Central after that, all crustacean-high. I had to rush home to change and also to take a dump cause the black pepper, though yummy, was really harsh on the tummy. Anyway, met the rest at the MRT station again and we all headed to O Bar.

Des, Ed, CY2...the last was Vinz and CY2's friend, Eileen.
I think she likes Vinz hehehehehe.
Des and I agree that she looks like someone we have met before.

Okay.

Back to work.

What you waiting for

This is definitely a treat for the gay boys: Maddie and Janet rehashed.

I like Janet's video but 4 Minutes is the song for me. Fierce!

###

Working Class Hero

It has been a week since I caught a show. 7 days...no wonder it feels like a long time. Haha. So yeah, Meiling and I got up really early last Sunday (March 30) at 0830hrs and we headed to GV Plaza to catch a show. It was GV's Family Day again and Pauline let us come.

DEFINITELY MAYBE is your average quest-for-love narrative, in the perspective of a male. Coming from the makers of Nottinghill, Bridget Jones and Love Actually, it is a sugar-coated schmaltzy offering. I still think the British ones are better, though.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Will Hayes: I had two serious girlfriends... and then some other smattering of other women.
Maya Hayes: What's the boy word for 'slut'?
Will Hayes: They still haven't come up with one yet.

...

April: You and me, it'd kinda be like cats and dogs.
Will Hayes: Oil and water.
April: Sand paper and bare ass.
Will Hayes: That's gross.

...

Will Hayes: This song is an excellent cure for the will to live.

...

Maya Hayes: Dad, I can't believe you drank... and smoked... and was such a slut... But I still love you.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

DEFINITELY MAYBE has the potential to be greater. Many aspects of the movie are just glossed over, making everything looks cute. Abigail Breslin and Ryan Reynolds are such a charm to watch. Breslin, who can look freakishly like Kirsten Dunst in Interview With The Vampire, has an old people aura...je ne sais pas, quite enigmatic, I guess.

Reynolds, well, he's a goofball. Not in the irritating Dane Cook/Ashton Kutcher/Van Wilder(!) kind of way, but slight subtler. And personally, he's dating ScarJo. If ScarJo wants you, hey, you're the man for me. Haha.

Anyway back to the movie. I dont especially hate it but I've seen the likes of it before. How is Reynolds' character a slut? He didnt cheat with anyone and he didnt throw himself at girls. So I am quite confused. Did I miss the part where he prostitutes himself?

And Rachel Weisz! What a waste of stunning beauty and substance. The screen lights up when she's in it. Alas...her appearances are limited. The romance between Reynolds' and Isla Fisher's characters are not convincing also. It is slow-burning all right, but again, I dont know. No substance. Sidetrack: Isla Fisher is pretty though. I cant believe at the end of the day, she shares the same bed with Borat.

Fine.
I read too much into it.
It's just a movie.
Bah.

And bah-ness is what I've been feeling of late, cooped at work till late, shuffling between classes and dousing myself in red ink. If I'm not in class, I'm in the MassComm room marking. I set up my computer at the side, plug to some online radio and depending on my mood, choose a music genre. Some days I go urban, some days I go indie. Some days I go electronica/dance. Mostly it's rock - classic, anthemic, deep, blues, accoustic, folk..etc.

The students' advertising assignments.
One of them did Toblerone and after marking his work, I had the strongest urge to nibble a Tobble. Quickly rushed downstairs and got 2.

The trick: Suck off the choc and then bite the softened nougat!

Surrounded by all these these past few days.

So yeah, Friday I decided to break away work a little and went for a walk after work. Walked intensely from City Hall and then I called it a night at Thomson Road/Novena.

I was plugged to the mp3 player all the way. While waiting for the bus near United Square, a commotion happened. A bus stopped and there was like a fight on board, involving some ah peks. Usually, I would be dying to know. But no...not that night. I didnt even bat an eyelid nor took out my headphones to listen. There and then, at the bus stop, I realised I would never make it as an investigative journalist.

Oh well.
So much for majoring in journalism.

Reached home and found feet blistered and bleeding.

Orbi good.

Bury Me in Black

Wh..What? It's already 0730hrs??????
God!

Went crabbing with Vinz, Adrian, Des and CY2 just now after work and after that, we headed to O Bar. Got home around 0430hrs and now, it's almost time to go to work. On a Sunday! Noooooooo.

Seriously, the bed has never looked so tempting and comfortable...and I can only look yearningly from a far. Wait for me, dear bed. By 1400hrs, we shall make acquaintance.

I can barely open my eyes. My blistered feet (from Friday's walk) are aching from my pseudo-shuffling and Red Indian-like tribal dance moves on the dancefloor. AFter downing a mug of Milo, I am still dehydrated :( I need Red Bull. They give wings.

Weeeeeeeeeeeewoooooooooo!

By the way, just now at O Bar, I was very fascinated by this emo guy who seemed to be so out of place at the RnB/hiphop joint. His long hair, black hooded sweater, black jeans, dark eyes...very Pete Wentz. I like.

Yeah, I surprise myself sometimes too.
Am such a cradle-snatcher.
Any 28-year-old (or older) emo men?

Yes, I like them emo.
I like them laidback.
I like them intelligent.
I like them artistic.
I like them gothic.
I like them indie.
I dont like them happy.

And oh, emo boy took the same bus as CY2.
Damn.

..
..
..

Okay, I really have to go to work.

"You want to stay with me in the morning
You only hold me when I sleep,
I was meant to tread the water
Now I've gotten in too deep,
For every piece of me that wants you
Another piece backs away.

'Cause you give me something
That makes me scared, alright,
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try,
Please give me something
'Cause someday I might know my heart.

You already waited up for hours
Just to spend a little time alone with me,
And I can say I've never bought you flowers
I can't work out what the meaning
I never thought that I'd love someone
That was someone else's dream.

'Cause you give me something
That makes me scared, alright,
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try,
Please give me something,
'Cause someday I might call you from my heart,
But it might me a second too late,
And the words I could never say
Gonna come out anyway.

'Cause you give me something
That makes me scared, alright,
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try,
Please give me something,
'Cause you give me something
That makes me scared, alright,
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try,
Please give me something
'Cause someday I might know my heart.
Know my heart
Know my heart
Know my heart" - J.Morrison

Walk this way

Last night after work (2200hrs), I felt like a night walk. So I headed off past CHIJMES...

...to Singapore Arts Musuem, to Waterloo, to Bencoolen...

...out at Selegie, down to Bukit Timah (Little India area)...

...down Boon Siew Building, past Kandang Kerbau Hospital, past Tanglin Police Centre..

...down Kg Java, past heavy traffic, dark streets, below CTE...

...and ended at United Square at Novena (Thomson Road).

I could have walked all the way to Old Police Academy, then to the East Flora nursery, down to McRitchie, down to Thomson Plaza, to Bishan Park and then home. But that would be pushing it. And besides it was alread 2300hrs.

And my feet were blistered.

So yeah, last night I was happy just by pulling through a walk from City Hall to Thomson Road within 1 hr, in a dress and heels and carrying a heavy laptop. Next time I'll wear flats and I'll walk home from work.

One day.

P/S: Off to work now. Didnt go NPCC cause I didnt prepare my lesson before hand. Grrr.

La isla bonita!

Excuse me lah. I really cannot work today. Am having the weekend mood already.

But you must understand, I dont have rest days this week. Am working tomorrow and on Sunday also. So let me take today slightly casual, can?

But seriously it doesnt matter. All that matters today is that Maddie's new MTV is out.

It is out!!!

###

Brown eyes blue

Jeans are such common wear now.
However, they definitely have come a long way.

I remember my first pair. A Lee Cooper (sounds like Lauren's car now). I got it at 12 years old after years (yes, years!) of begging for them. I dont know why but the mother refused to get one for me when I was much younger. It's like...I would turn into a beast, a rebel, a crackhead if I were to put on a pair of jeans. So yeah, pre-Lee Cooper, I was always wearing skirts, culottes (ew!) and 80s inspired dresses.

Vintage fashion.
Wow.
Yip-pee.

But yeah, what would a 10-year-old know? Those shoulder pads and over the top 80s fashion. Anyway, that developed my disgust awkward feelings towards 80s. The sheer horror that the mother made me wear because "It's in fashion!" All I wanted was a pair of jeans!

So yeah, when I put on my first jeans, I didnt want to take it off. And that summed up my whole tween years - stonewashed, bootcut, baggy like crazy, torn and tattered, ripped at the seams, safety-pinned at the crotch. Haha teenage years.

And now, I have 7 pairs of them in my wardrobe and I dont want to wear them.

Guess I have come full circle.

P/S: This entry is inspired by my students' articles on fashion.

Road to somewhere

How to teach others when I myself havent been taught?
How to ask for help when everyone is either too busy, too hostile or too judgemental?
Or, too, dont know?

How to learn it myself when I dont even have the time to reply emails.

This is doing diddly squat for my own self-improvement.

Go fuck yourself.

..
..

And I mean it.

Now give me electronica.

P/S: Time goes by..so slowly. So slowly. Time goes by..so slowly. So slowly. Time goes by..so slowly. So slowly. Time goes by..so slowly. So slowly.

4 Minutes

Kill me.
Kill me.
Kill me.
I freaking hate marking.

It's 1945hrs and I have been in school for more than 10 hours already...and still counting. The deadline for the mark submission is tomorrow and I still have an obscene pile untouched.

I am marking the remaining few Pop Culture assignments and I can really vomit blood. God, where did I go wrong? 3 components to the assignment and it's hell marking all of them, especially the class assignment. I dare not count how many times I have inked "Incoherent point!", "What is the point of this?" and best of all..just "Pure incoherence!" loud and bold.

Of course, these comments are censored and refined. I'm sure if given no restrictions, you know what I would jolly well write; something involving mummy and an air-borne copulation (flying fuck, lah!) session.

God.

Next...Film assignments.

Feel like ripping the computer beside me (in Mass Comm room) and slamming it against the wall.

Grrrr.

P/S: The initial plan was to go off and catch either Becoming Jane or Teeth. Yeah righ.

###

Do I ever cross your mind?

Hah, not today.

Goodbye Lullaby Malubay!

###

Carry on/questions

It's the time of the season when I have red and green ink on my hands, my face and on my clothes. It's the marking season, ya'll.

Ptui!

I am having a fit just by marking my Diploma students' advertising projects - Hello Kitty mobile (camera + blackberry + computer..meow!!), Okamoto condoms, LV men's fragrance, Lux hair removal shower gel (caution: do not use on head hair!), Tsingtao Lady beer, Bintang X-treme beer (ginseng and royal jelly...imagine that!), Chivas Regal Crystal Clear, flavoured/scented Vicks VapoRub and Toblerone Strawberry chocolate.

Certain products/concepts look like rip-offs while some are quite original.

Now...if only they can speak/write well in English.

P/S: Note to self...Go buy Toblerone during lunch break.

P/P/S: The power of advertising is immense.

P/P/S/S: Can I join the advertising industry? Am I too old?

Ferry cross the mersey

Fenerbahce just scored!!

I know they can win this.

Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before

I am really looking forward to the weekend where I can do things at a much relaxed pace. Right now...I cant do anything without thinking about something else. I fell asleep while watching Idol and in my sleep, I thought about the show. I woke at 0130hrs and watched the repeat telecast again.

Now am watching Arsenal-Liverpool and am going crazy thinking about the Fenerbahce-Chelsea match.

And also thinking of blogging, movies, work work work.

I give up.

All I want is one week to myself, to do whatever I want.

Just one week.

"Stop me, oh, oh, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've
Heard this one before
Stop me, oh, oh, oh stop me
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before

Cuz nothing's changed
I still love you, oh, I still love you,
Only slightly
Only slightly less than I used to... my love

I was delayed, I was way-laid,
An emergency stop
I saw the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder
Who said I'd lied to her?

Who said I'd lied because I never? Never!
Who said I'd lied because I never?

I was detained, I was restrained
And broke my knee
And broke my spleen
And then he really laid into me, yeah!
Friday night in out-patients
Who said I lied to her?

Who said I lied? Coz I never, never!
Who said I lied to her? '

So I drank one
It became four
And when I fell on the floor ...
I drank more

Stop me, oh, oh, oh stop me
Stop me if you think that you've
Heard this one before
Stop me, oh, I said stop me
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before

Nothing's changed
I still love you, oh, I still love you
Only slightly
Only slightly less than I used to, my love

Set me free why don't you
Get out my life why don't you
Coz you don't really love me, no,
You just keep me hanging on..."

By the way, recently, a shadow resurfaced after years of being dormant. Enough. Just leave me alone. It's no good and we know how the ending will be. I'm not interested in this anymore. Let it be the past and move on.

A thousand times goodnight, sleeping satellites.

Drift away

So Man U won 2-0. I predicted 1-0 but haiyah, it's okay.

I woke up feeling gay (happy, peeople) cause it's one of those rare times I didnt have to jump straight to the computer and into the books. I woke up at 0930hrs, opened my new glossy Elle (finally) and read till 1045hrs. After that..guess what, I managed to fix lunch!

Woohoo.
Damn rare.
Grabbed Snow White and surfed/chatted as I cooked.
And Doobie Brothers were playing on the radio.
Gimme me the beat, boys!

Yeah it's only Maggi but hey, good enough okay.
No time to fry, steam or roast stuff.

Over the weekend I finally cleared the clutter on my bed. That deserved another entry on its own. But anyway, I found some old pictures near the old computer. So cute..my brother and I wahaha.

Happy belated 27th birthday, asshole.

It's time to get ready for work. Gonna take cab as always but it's different this time cause I am pooling with Berry Berry Strawberry. That's half the price. Sweet.

P/S: Meeting new students. Got cute ones or not????

Toy soldier

Do I miss Lauren?
Do I miss Lauren...not?
Do I?
Do I not?
This is so lame.

It's 0406hrs and I should be sleeping considering I have a freaking long day (workshop) down at Orchard Road later. But...I dont want to surrender. My days at home are so short nowadays and urgh, most of the time spent is on the floor.

Anyway, I have just finished clearing the disaster which was on my bed. You see, another reason why I didnt sleep on my bed (apart from couldnt make it there before 100% sleepiness crept in) was that 1/2 of the bed was covered with clothes. Yeah...I dont have time to put everything in my wardrobe and so...the pile just grew and grew. I had to sleep cross-legged. Ridiculous? I show you the pictures soon.

The symposium was a nightmare. It being the first time I've participated in such nonsense, I wasnt really prepared and got the concept all wrong. There I was ready to share my research and findings but then, everyone else talked about methods and other technical aspects they faced while doing their researches.

So all my preparations was in vain and in the 11th hour, I changed the manner and speech that I had to say. When it was my turn, I cooked a whole lot of cock and bull story about doing research, on sports, on global phenomenon, on pop culture, on travels ... it was amazing that people still clapped for me at the end of it. The last time I checked, my voice was audibly quivering.

Oh, it really didnt help my ego to know that most of the uni reps were talking about their PhD thesis and research. Ph-fucking-D leh! I glared at my boss for bringing me into this mess, for making me feel so inadequate. PhD...I just have a shitty degree. Dammit.

It didnt help also that I didnt sleep the day before..or the day before before (Thursday). It's not insomnia. I could sleep but I had to stay awake to do work and some symposium stuff.

The symposium was over around 1330hrs and the uni reps invited Idaho and I to lunch at an Indian restaurant nearby. One of the reps, a pretty woman, asked me something.

Rep: So what the things that you want to do? You have done so many things already.
Ed: Hmmm...I really dont know.
Rep: Oh come on! Am sure you've got some plans!
Ed: At this moment, not really. I've done what I've always wanted to do - be in radio, write, teach, do social work...hmmm, can't think of anything else, really.
Rep: Hmm yeah, you have covered a fair bit considering you're only 28. You have learnt a lot of things.
Ed: But I'm a master of none! Haha!
Rep: Nah...so nothing else ya?
Ed: Haha I can die happy, cant I?
Rep: Sure you can!
Ed: Wait.
Rep: Yea?
Ed: I can be a florist.

To say that I just want to travel the world didnt cross my mind.
Never mind.

After lunch, I went back to the office (1500hrs on a class-less Saturday!) and began to surf. Surfed for graduate programmes in Singapore and honestly, nothing anywhere caught my eye. How....don't tell me I have to go overseas again to pursue it?

Another uni rep asked me to go Liverpool John Moores Uni for my masters. Tempting but I really not feeling the course - some Internet and Comms thingy. When I told him I was more interested in films and advertising, philosophy/sociology and stuff, he turned and said:

"Films? But what can you do after that??"

Wah lao! A lot okay! Like being a more appreciative person? One with more empathy and knowledge? Just because I am not into your nonsense doesnt mean I cannot survive, okay?! Pompous academic. He cant even say the words "change" and "film" correctly. Anyway, what I want to pursue is seriously none of your business...unless you are thinking of sponsoring me.

At 1700hrs, I gave up. I still had no idea where to go and what to do for my grad education. I packed up and headed to Borders, planning to meet Meiling later to catch a show instead. She got some discount and we ended up paying only $4.50 each.

THE BUCKET LIST comes off a bit cheesy but if one immerses oneself completely and go beyond the schmaltz, it's so bittersweet. It's quite predictable but ah, Rob Reiner always succeeds in pulling heartstrings and drawing tears and laughs at the same time (When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Alex and Emma, Stand By Me, Rumour Has It...).

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Carter Chambers: Tell me how it's different.
Edward Cole: I build a billion dollar business up from NOTHING! Presidents have asked my advice, I have dined with royalty, and i'm supposed to make out like what? This trip was supposed to MEAN something to me? Like it was gonna change ME? How did you see it playing out Carter, I knock on the door, she answers, she's surprised and angry, but I tell her how much I love her and miss her, and OH, by the way, I'm gonna be dead soon so I'm reaching out to you because I don't wanna die alone?
Carter Chambers: Everyone's afraid to die alone.
Edward Cole: I'm not everyone! This was supposed to be fun. That's all it ever was.

...

Edward Cole: Here's something to remember when you're older Thomas - never pass up a bathroom, never waste a hard-on, and never trust a fart.
Thomas: I'll remember that when I start "decrepitating" sir.

...

Carter Chambers: Even now I cannot understand the measure of a life, but I can tell you this. I know that when he died, his eyes were closed and his heart was open. And I'm pretty sure he was happy with his final resting place, because he was buried on the mountain. And that was against the law.

...

Edward Cole: The simplest thing is... I loved him. And I miss him. Carter and I saw the world together. Which is amazing... When you think that only three months ago, we were complete strangers! I hope that it doesn't sound selfish of me but... the last months of his life were the best months of mine. He saved my life... And he knew it before I did.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I have never liked Jack Nicholson cause..erm..I dont like his over-the-top acting. Maybe the images of him being Joker really scared me silly. But Morgan Freeman is understated as usual, and still manage to press his presence to the front. His son acts as his son (hah) in this show and it's always nice to see real-to-reel bonding.

Morgan Freeman is always playing the voice of reason/God/narration and he does it again this time with The Bucket List. He doesnt suck so yeah...he can play God until the day he dies and it still doesnt matter.

The Bucket List starts out cheesy but it progresses into a masterpiece. Maybe it's because the mise-en-scene of the film plays a big part. Yeah, at the end of the show, many were left with teary eyes, including yours truly ... mascara running and all. Considering that after 2 days of no-sleep, I was still very much awake thruought the show. That meant something.

So yeah...watch this before you..err..kick the bucket. Philosophy, baby.

After watching this, I am really looking forward to New York with my 3 friends. I wish all the others can come along. We'll paint NYC red, blue and white, I tell you.

Sunday morning saw Meiling and I to another movie screening (free). But I shall leave it for tomorrow. It's almost 0500hrs and I need to wake up soon.

To do that, I need to go to bed.

A thousand times goodnight, tree huggers.
