Eye of the tiger

I've got a freaking headache.

Bleargh.

Yesterday the brother and sister-in-law came over. They arrived just as I was in the midst of banging the shit out of my drum (Guitar Hero WT). The sister-in-law wasnt feeling very good so it was the brother, the sister and me screaming at one another in front of the TV. Just like old times.

So yeah...we were at it for 4 hours straight.
Played until we went cock-eyed.

Anyway, the sister-in-law just had a miscarriage. Yeah, think she was into her second month or something. It was a bittersweet thing...tragic relief, something of that sort. It was unplanned but she grew into the feeling. Doctor said it was due to stress. Thoughts are with everyone affected.

Awrite.

Am meeting Liah later. It has been a while and next week is her birthday. So...tonight we'll meet before she turns a year older.

And in January...yikes...I'll turn 29.

Have you ever?

Lauren and I were almost late. Ironically, we actually met up early and took the bus but the bus moved at a snail's pace. We alighted at Bugis and took the cab to Esplanade instead.

Taken from past Ave Q productions.

The following is my favourite from the theatre - If You Were Gay.

AVENUE Q was hilarious. I would have appreciated it all the more if I were less tired and hungry. Better seats would have helped also.

Anyway, the performance was good and yeah...kind of worth the money. It was definitely more satisfying than to have watched the Arsenal-Man U match I guess. Izzy and CY2 updated me and well...end result was Arse 2 Man U 1. That sounded close. Damn.

Never mind.
Next leg.

...
...
...

Yesterday after work, Shortcake and I decided to have a quick ice-cream session. After some Ben & Jerry's, we walked around Raffles City. Suddenly, we were hit by hunger pangs and therefore, we made our way to Sakae Sushi haha.

Makan sampai pengsan, nyah.

That was yesterday. I struggled to wake up to work just now. I headed home from work at around 1430hrs and when I reached home, I immediately ran to the huge box which had been blocking my kitchen entrance.

With much enthusiasm I ripped the box apart and began to assemble the drum kit and the guitar.

We sucked; both the sister and I. Managed to play for about 3 hours before I ran off to meet Lauren.

Anyway, here's just a little glimpse of what playing the drum on Guitar Hero World Tour is like.

Okay it's 0400hrs and I really need to sleep in order to be up and ready for another day of Guitar Hero-ing later. Right now, I can only play 2 things at a time (out of 3-drum, mic and guitar) because I only have 2 controllers. Will need to buy one more soon.

Alright.

A thousand times goodnight, no-lifers.

Can we talk?

I was in class yesterday when I received a message from one of the Monash students. "I cheated in the exam and got caught."

Okay.

I've never encountered such a situation where a student confessed to cheating by informing me about it after the papers. So after class, I smed back asking why. Then in the evening, he replied something about having a difficult time with studies and work, about boss not being understanding yada yadi yadu. Basically, he's creating a lot of excuses for himself.

Then later at night, he smsed me again - "Can I talk to you?"

I was in no mood to hear somebody's pathetic excuse. I had been listening to his whining the whole semester already; moaning about how the Monash markers were being unfair in giving him poor grades, accussing him of plagiarism and stuff. Earlier in the semester, he was the one who complained about me to me (yeah, twisted like that) regarding his assignment... last semester, he showed me his draft, I said "It looks okay" and when the paper came back, he failed.

Next time, I would just say "Your essay is lousy!"
I have learnt to be brutally honest like that.
No more freaking buffering.

So anyway, I didnt reply him. Just hope that he doesnt turn up in school today. I am not Mother Teresa. At least, not today.

###

The name of the game

Just came back from watching Madagascar 2. It's darker and more twisted than Madagascar 1. Lots of inane Stiller-Ali G nonsense. Something I like.

Kwa kwa.

Reached Ang Mo Kio around 2100hrs just now and straight away made my way to the game shop at AMK Hub. Headed straight to the cashier, whipped out the remains of my money and had the staff carry the huge package to the first floor. Then I took over, struggled with the bloody package and made my way home slowly, limbs quivering with every step I took. Reached home 20 minutes later (cause I walked damn slowly as the package was damn heavy), dumped the package on the floor, sprawled on the sofa, sweating like a pig after a marathon. I was so tired that I actually fell asleep in that totally gross condition.

So what was the package?

Damn heavy.

Will start playing it tomorrow after work. Am too tired to open the package and my arms are still aching. Shall go home straight after work and beat the hell out of those drums before heading out to watch Ave Q.

Izzy, CY2...anyone, PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE update me on the match can?

Shall go watch Grey's Anatomy now.

A thousand times goodnight, rock and rollers.

P/S: The song list includes Rebel Yell, Dammit, About A Girl, American Woman,Beat It, Purple Haze, Everlong, Hotel California, La Bamba, The Middle, One Way or Another, Some Might Say, Spiderwebs and Santeria (!!).

P/P/S: Everybody is “somebody’s somebody”.

When love and hate collide

There's a big match between Arsenal and Manchester United at about 2045hrs tomorrow. The thing is...I cant watch it. I will be watching Avenue Q during that time.

This is sucky. If I had known that there's going to be a huge match, I would just stay indoors.

Argh.

I feel sick.

Here we go round the mulberry bush

I was about to panic as I realised more than $1k of my money is gone. But phew, I remembered putting some in my other bank account and the other some uh..goes partially to my freaking phone. I also remembered lending the sister a little to tide her over her accident+motorbike woes. So that is something I can see again.

And urgh...I really need to stop taking the freaking cab. To think I eat/drink budget (except for the occasional relapse) only to squander in cabs...so that I can do more work in them. Note: Dear cabbies, do not talk to me when I am doing work.

My vices this month are 1) concert tickets (god...I love you all, but stop coming at the same time!), 2) work clothes (needed a major overhaul cause I've ..ahem..matured) and 3) bloody make-up.

Yes. make-fucking-up.

I hate it when people (and freaking students) tell me how pale I am without make-up, how I should put some because it makes me look professional and all that crap because I actually buy their reasons. Working and living with others mean having to deal with their judgements and carry yourself. Yes, maybe there are some people who really live in their own world, oblivious to external opinions but...arent most of us affected by what people say? Being angry is a reaction too, by the way.

So anyway...I cant escape from the dressing-up and making-up part. Though if given a choice, I would just want to lounge in my disgusting hole-y t-shirt and worn-out tennis skirts. And the only cosmetic on me will be lipgloss or mascara.

*pfft..excuses*

Anyway, the initial entry was not to mull over money. The initial plan was to talk about ZoukOut. I hate crowds, sticky chewy crowds especially.Though I like the sand, I dont like being covered in them for anything more than 2 hours. But but but, something in the line-up is giving me a little strength to overcome those irritants.

It's...
It's...
It's...

*sniff*snort*puke*smile*puke*snort*sniff*

ABOVE & BEYOND!!!

It's unlike me to like them, but I like.

I remember one bored night, Fifi, Dina and I ended up at Zouk. Specimen B did mention that some guest DJs were coming but it totally slipped my mind. If it didnt, I wouldnt go Zouk cause the crowd's going to get sticky chewy. So we got there and saw a snaking queue. However, we knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who fucked someone who was part of the management (beats me, I dont know) haha and yeah we got in. Phuture was utterly awful that night but the main floor...was... like in heaven.

Ironic, considering what a grand hell-hole Zouk is.

Anyway there they were.
3 old-looking men spinning.
Eeks.
We liked what we heard.
We were bought over.

So here I am contemplating. Fifi and Dina will not go cause the former has turned over a new leaf tree while the latter is shrouded in marital bliss. I guess it's just me serving my "conjugal visits" to clubs then hahaha.

Okay, what was I saying?

Ah contemplating.

I am not up for mambo shit, RnB doesnt faze me and hardcore hip hop I like but it looks pretentious on me. Techno burns my skin and house makes me want to smile and space out under a tree. I can do that at Ang Mo Kio park. Rock music...well...just how much Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" can I take? Along with the ridiculous chanting?

"This ain't a song for the broken-hearted *insert stupid chant*
No silent prayer for the faith-departed *insert stupid chant*
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud
IT'S MY LIFE!!!!"

No offence Jovi.
It's not you (or me), it's them.
*Points finger at other clubbers*

Oh well.

Still contemplating.

Above & Beyond should just have a freaking live podcast lah!

P/S: The game shop called. My Guitar Hero World Tour is here. Uh oh.

Winner takes it all

Our brother of a different colour won!

Breaking News

Democrat Barack Obama wins US Presidential Elections, John McCain concedes defeat.

"When the nation's 44th president is inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009, he will face an extraordinary array of domestic and international problems. The election -- the most expensive presidential race in history and likely to attract a record turnout -- came as the nation is fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and suffering through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression."

My birthday!
My birthday!

Okay. The UK university validation of my baby Diploma programme will also take place on that day. It's going to be a big day, that day.

January 20th, 2009.

P/S: And there's no news on Palin.

P/P/S: It's a good time to go to Hawaii and Kenya, ya'll!

###

Free(Palin)g

How to work when something big is happening out there? The journalist in me is stirring. And I thought it died a silent death 2 years ago.

"In Christianburg, Virginia, Norma Jean Lundis said she voted for McCain because he "stands for what I believe in - less government, lets me control my money, the right to bear arms, life begins at conception, marriage between man and woman."

Obama and McCain, one of whom will become the first sitting senator elected president since John F. Kennedy in 1960, hit the finish line on Monday with competing cross-country campaign blitzes.

McCain, leveraging his heroism as a Vietnam war prisoner and decades of experience in Washington, would be the oldest president - at 72 - inaugurated for a first term if elected.

Obama was to await the voters' verdict in Chicago. McCain huddled with top aides at a posh hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. Bush stayed out of sight at the White House."
- quoted off Channel News Asia.

Hilarious. Bush always gets the jibe even if he is not in the picture!

P/S: How come there's no news on Palin? Gimme Palin drama! Does she even know it's voting day?

###

Let's hear it for the boy

We're Obama is leading!!

Haha.

It's disturbing when a Singaporean-Malay feels that Obama is her people.

Very disturbing.

This is big, man. I wasnt this excited when I was choosing my secondary school. Well cause I thought it was a no-brainer.... RGS.

RGS my ass.

Team Obama!

Dreaming of you

One of my part-time students, a mature 27-year-old, just emailed me the following. I remember we were talking about it during break one night and it was hilarious. Though she was just one year younger than me, she was concerned that I was still single ..yada yada...stuff like that. She told me something about meeting The One (life partner, not God) etc.

Sorry non-Muslims.
Think you wont get it (the idea, not a life partner).

Here we go:

...
...
...

Dear Mona

Thank you for simplifying the authorship for us =)

really appreciate it alot.

Anyways about the doa to get jodoh cepat. You have to read
1) Al-fatihah 3 times
2) Surah an-nas 3 times
3) Ayatul kursi once
4) 101 times of selawat
5) make a wish
6) 101 times selawat

This has to be done before you sleep lah. And your heart has to be in sincere and pure mode (means not in anger or watever).

Insyallah you will see the glimpse of your jodoh. Sometimes first time you cant see anyting. But the next few times, your dreams will be consistent. and when i said a glimpse, it is really like 20 seconds kind of thing =)

Good luck!

...
...
...

No shit! What if it's Lauren (or CY2 haha!) who comes to me in my dream? I'll wake up upset, man!

"Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I'd stay up and think of you
And I'd wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking of me too

Cuz I'm dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow, I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Then here in my room,
Dreaming about you and me

Wonder if you even see me
And I wonder if you know I'm there
If you looked in my eyes
Would you see what's inside?
Would you even care?

I just wanna hold you close
But so far, all I have are dreams of you
So, I wait for the day and the courage to say
How much I love you
Yes, I do

I'll be dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow, I'll be holding you tight
And there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be
Then here in my room,
Dreaming about you and me" (Selena)

P/S: Russell Peters was whacked!

P/P/S: Somebody's gonna get a hurt real bad.

The laughing song

Wow wow wow.

Just peeled myself off the floor...had a tiring day. It's almost 0800hrs now, almost time to make my way to work.

Yesterday was CY2's birthday and we had arranged to see Russell Peters "LIVE". I almost peed in my pants...almost died laughing. It was good. At least for 2 hours, I forgot that I had a shitty day at work. Meeting can be a bitch.

Happy birthday, babe!

ARGH!!!!

Work.

Working class hero

Simone de Beauvoir: Cowards and heroes are not born, they are defined in action.

If you act cowardly today, you can choose to be heroic tomorrow. One always has the choice to act differently next time. The idea of a permanent hero or coward does not exist. There is no such thing as 'nature' which determines how we must act. It is a kind of self-deception or 'bad faith'; denying this radical freedom.

Through the wire

The sister smsed me while i was having a meeting..saying she had an accident at loyang road, on her way home. She just got home with e parents frm hospital and her knees were heavily bandaged.

This will keep her at home for the nex 3 days.

Praise the Lord it's a beautiful day.

Got to know the stuff that I'm going to teach next Monash semester. Yeah I know, the last semester barely ended and now we're talking about February already. Anyway, maybe it's not confirmed yet but right now, I will tentatively be taking Cultural Policy (again), Media Audiences and International Journalism --> 2 new subjects.

Frankly, after this semester's Authorship module, I think I am game enough for anything. Just bring it on. Who knows, this will be my last Monash term too.

I'm just contemplating.

P/S: Life is too short to not do what I want. And what I want is to travel and do social work. Maybe it's to Hanoi to do a good deed. I dont know. All I know is that I need to do it.

Electric youth

99 problems

I just got a revelation at 0300 just now. I have been nurturing my obsessive/addictive habits over these years, and well, I am fnally coming to terms with it. It's not my fault. The parents screwed up with me when I was young.

Haha.

Well, at least that's what Freud would like us to know. Based on his psycosexual theories, I can fall under Stage 1: The Oral Stage and that, I am "orally fixated as an adult". If it is what it seems, I was neglected as a child and was underfed (well we werent really rich). I know..hard to believe but yeah.

"If the child was underfed or neglected, he may become orally dependent and obsessed with achieving the oral stimulation of which he was deprived, learning to manipulate others to fulfill his needs rather than maturing to independence."

"Oral fixations are considered to contribute to over-eating, being overly talkative, smoking addictions, overindulging in sugar, chewing on straws, and even alcoholism (known as "oral dependent" qualities). Other symptoms include a sarcastic or "biting" personality (known as "oral sadistic" qualities)."

HELP!!

Then I also realise that I can be of Stage 2: The Anal Stage. Apart from having an oral fixation, I am also have an anal-expulsive personality. I lack self-control, is liberalised and have a gratification problem.

Amazing.
Or Freud is a blithering idiot.

So, I have Stage 1 and 2 problems. I definitely cannot be affected by Stage 3: The Phallic Stage, right? I dont recall having an Electra or Oedipus complex for that matter. I didnt "love" the father to the point of having the mother dead. Nor vice-versa. So I would like to think that I am a sexually normal adult.

"The Oedipal conflict is resolved if the child grows into a sexually normal adult. If the Oedipal conflict is not fully resolved, the child may become promiscuous, very sexually inhibited, or confused about sexuality as an adult."

But then again, it's self-restraint and religion (well, partly) that are holding me back. Oh, definitely maybe singlehood. Being liberated in Stage 2, eases me up into the Phallic Stage. I wasnt fixated on the parents during this stage because I was more fixated on cute TV actors and popstars. If I were to have a constant sex partner right now, who knows my Stage 3 syndrome will all come out...being promiscuous and sexually inhibited.

Imagine having all the stages coming to me at once while I am having sex. My Stage 1 oral fixation will generally be handy and my Stage 2's general lack of care and self0control will see me doing it in public and my Stage 3 traits will see me doing it with 3 men at the same time.

Wouldnt that be something?

..
..
..

Just done with Grey's Anatomy and ... I LOVE IZZIE!! Season 5 suffered a bad start but ah, it got better as it progressed. Ep5's ending is one of the sweetest between my 2 favourite GA characters. Of course it involved people getting lucky. Hello, I am Stage 3!

Okay. I must be too free to blog an entry about my psychosexual development. I am in the process of regurgitating what I have been absorbing during Monash semester. The term's over, ya'll.

Okay. The malay wedding held at the block behind is starting to make a ruckus. Think it's time to go out.

Later.

P/S: CHOKE was ... bizarre.

Under the influence of love

"I'll forgive and forget
If you say you'll never go
'Cos it's true what they say
It's better the devil you know..."

I am loading up on Kylie now.
Am building up for the concert.

Of course I am not forgetting my Manics. That will be sheer audacity. I am always listening to my Manics but for Kylie...I must be in a damn happy mood to be listening to Kylie in the first place. Her songs are so gay and Euro-tastic. And right now, I am happy cause the weekend is coming and that most of my work is done.

I said "most", not "all".

Anyway, Manics and Kylie are performing just one day apart from each other (24th@ Fort Canning and 25th@SIS respectively). I have a niggling feeling that Kylie is going to turn up at Fort Canning and reprise their collaboration on Little Baby Nothing. And then probably on the next day, Manics will pop by at her concert and jam with her on Some Kind of Bliss. Argh!! Wet dream!

I'll probably faint if Manics and Kylie are to appear together on both days.
I'll probably regain consciousness 2 days later.
Argh I cant wait.
The concerts, not the fainting part.

I must thank my uncle (Wak Janggut) for introducing me to cheesy 80s music. The father introduced me to 60s music and the mother introduced me to the hippie/disco 70s. Yes I dont like 80s music in general cause bands/singers like Bananarama, Rick Astley, ABC, Ultravox, Kim Carnes, Phil Collins/Genesis, Adam Ant, Paula Abdul, Devo, Duran Duran, Peter Gabriel, Kajagoogoo, Robert Palmer, Tears for Fears, Toni Basil, Manhattan Transfer, Lionel Richie, Talking Heads, Tiffany, Peter Gabriel, Wang Chung (!!), Yes (and tons more) make me want to slit my retro wrists. But the decade had introduced me to:

- Kylie Minogue
- Pet Shop Boys (I'm so freaking gay, lah!)
- Marc Almond / Soft Cell
- Madonna
- Eurythmics
- Debbie Gibson (!!)
- Janet Jackson
- Bryan Adams
- Pretenders
- Blondie
- INXS
- U2
- Bon Jovi
- Guns N Roses
- Dexy's Midnight Runner
- The Cure
- New Order
- John Cougar
- Michael Jackson I knew him from Jackson 5
- Billy Idol
- Sheena Easton (kwa kwa)
- Richard Marx
- George Michael (not Wham though)
- Billy Joel
- Sade
- Whitney Houston
- Heart
- Los Lobos
- REM

One of my REM favs.
Loves it.

....ah, memories of childhood, man. Me waking up to the thumping music, going over to the huge ass sound machine (complete with record player)to lower down the volume cause the house was vibrating and I woke uo feeling nauseous.

I remember listening to Michael Jackson's Thriller for the first time in 1984. It was the most traumatising event of the year, man. I ran into my room screaming when I heard Vincent Price's soliloquay and evil laughter at the end. And when the MTV came out, I watched it behind a blanket.

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Okay. It's 0330hrs and I am freaking high on Kylie. Have been bopping since 0030hrs...must tbe the venti macchiato I had for dinner just now kicking in. I'm at Your Disco Needs You now. One of my favs, man.

Yes, I'm freaking gay like that, can?

I hope she opens with this.
DO YOU HEAR ME, KYLIE???

Before I go, please remember this:

YOUR DISCO NEEDS YOU!

A thousand times goodnight, Europa Disco Dancers!

P/S: Shall prepare for tomorrow morning's lesson now. Bummer.

P/P/S: Rae and Lauren, can we get feather boa for the concert?

P/P/P/S: I'm so gay.

Coffee & TV

"Life, oh life...oh life," coos Des'ree at the back of my mind.

I dont have my MP3 player with me and that sucks cause I have the sudden urge for rhythmic poetry. Not that Des'ree's Life is poetry but..still? The school's laptop and network don't allow me access to youtube or to any online radio stations. So what a girl got to do?

So I sang verses of songs which came to mind, recorded them in my dying handphone (batt's low!) and then I played it back. This is a pathetic act but oh well...anything to get me through the day, okay!

Mental song list (dont laugh!)

1. I Love the Way You Love Me (Boyzone) (I said dont laugh!)
2. Life (Des'ree)
3. Mama (Kanye West)
4. Champagne Supernova (Oasis)
5. Maybe Tomorrow (Stereophonics)
6. Anything (3T)
7. Rubber Duckie (Ernie from Sesame Street)
8. Things Can Only Get Better (D:Ream)
9. 7 (Prince)
10. I Dont Wanna Cry (Mariah Carey)

[mak kau...tak rok, siak!]

Okay enough. My mental capacity is apparently way lesser than 1gig. The rest of the space is taken up by Authorship and Culture/Power notes. Gonna discard them all by next week.

Nothing has been going on in my life right now. Well, nothing sexciting or anything of that sort. But of course, lives of the young and the scandalous still go on. Since my life is so boring, I seek amusement in my students' lives which are ladened with sex, drama, bitch fights, scandals, police protection orders, affairs and speculations. Now you know why I dont watch Gossip Girls. It's because the actual thing is just unfolding in front of me.

Screw Gossip Girls.
I have the better version of Beverly Hills 90210 live.
90210, Gossip Girls, The Hills, The Sopranos,Boston Public, Sweet Valley all roll into one, baby.

Now that's in the classroom. In the office, beneath the boring and studious exterior of everybody, there's a TV show waiting to happen. It wont be serious drama; it will be a tragic comedy a la Shakespeare's bastardised version of Pyramus & Thisbe.

The staff room contains fodder good for The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Grey's Anatomy (the students and assignments being the carcasses), Boston Legal, the occasional CSI (whenever someone gets slaughtered from the bosses) , Lost (cause we are all stranded), Heroes (cause each of us has a special rubbish talent and Viet Cong is the freaking cheerleader), Desperate Housewives (only it's more Desperate Husbands cause the women are all single and the men are mostly married), Mind Your Language and hahahaha Senario.

My life is a big TV show and I am not the star.

Drats.

I am Ugly Betty.

P/S: Wonder if Kanye West shops at Funan or Raffles City. Maybe I should go out too.

P/P/S: Gonna catch some comedy performances at Howl At The Moon tomorrow. This is to warm me up for Russell Peters' show next Tuesday.

###

Flashing lights

Small crowd, big noise and an even bigger performer.

The opening act

The diva that is Kanye West.

P/S: It's a very watered down version of his now-legendary Glow In The Dark Tour. The iconic background lighting effects were absent. The audacity. Must be the recession.
