It's a lovely day today, isnt it? A little rain, MU won, a little sunshine, a little wind, MU won, a little love and whole lot of possibilities.
Bliss.
The night seems to fade,
But the moonlight lingers on
There are wonders for everyone
The stars shine so bright,
But they`re fading after dawn
There is magic in Kingston Town
Oh Kingston Town,
The place I long to be
If I had the whole world
I would give it away
Just to see, the girls at play
Ooh, ooh, ooh
And when I am king,
Surely I would need a queen
And a palace and everything, yeah
And now I am king,
And my queen will come at dawn
She`ll be waiting in Kingston Town
And when I am king,
Surely I would need a queen
And a palace and everything, yeah
And now I am king,
And my queen will come at dawn
She`ll be waiting in Kingston Town (UB40)
Kingston Town, my ass. It's more like Georgetown for me. I'm going to Penang tomorrow with the family (sans the married brother). And mentioning the brother, he will be leaving for Norway this Sunday for 4 months, for his new job.
Okay. My hair needs help. Need to rush to the hairdresser's.
P/S: Bye, Matt Giraud!

Paradise city
It's so cheap to fly SQ within the next 2 months. An airfare to London, Athens, Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Zurich or Amsterdam is $1198 (all-inclusive). And all I am going this weekend is to Penang.
Slowly...slowly.
Am surviving on oatmeal biscuits and Coke at work cause these are convenient. Busy as always and when I get home, I'll fall asleep before I can get to the computer.
All right, back to work. Tonight, I need to talk about the Middle East and its media system. God help me.
ALLAHU AKHBAR!!

Fragile
Hmm, good morning. Was jolted out of bed by a nasty dream.
I dreamed Sting fell from a great height during his concert and smashed his head. It appearaed on the front page of Straits Times and there was a picture of him lying face down in a pool of blood with his brain spilling out.
Yeah!
How can they put that kind of picture...
Then it was cut to Trudie, his wife, who was attending an award show when the incident happened. There was an announcement that her husband had met with a possibly fatal accident. She also got a phone call at the same time.
Silence.
Shocked.
Screamed.

Rip her to shreds
The cleaning lady just passed me a pack of noodles. She said it was mee siam. I opened it and ...urgh...it's not mee siam and it looks like it has been drenched in lard or something. I feel nauseous. Urgh.

I died last night while watching America's Next Top Model.
Dead tired, I guess.
I had a really trying day. I was on the afternoon shift yesterday and I was making my way to class, a student ambushed me. She asked if she could do her scriptwriting assignment alone, instead of being in a group. I asked her why and she could not give me a good reason. I know this student very well cause I've been teaching her since day 1. I know what kind of a person she is and well, she is anti-social, holier than thou and well, thinks she's too good for everything/everyone else.
But this is a group effort, I told her that. Marks would be allocated for group dynamism and if you were to do it alone, these marks would be deducted.
She seemed okay with it. I'm not. Many other students had come earlier to me requesting to do the assignment on their own. And this student caught me at a bad time. I was already pissed with the students' drama in class (cause it's affecting the class dynamism and the drama has been infected to me as they cried to me for help) and here was another pushy student.
I went into the class, set my equipment and stood in front of everyone.
I'm wearing heels yesterday and I felt powerful.
I lambasted every mother#^%& yesterday.
The foreign students and their hesitancy to improve their English language were not spared. The local students who came up to me and said "Please dont group me with the China students cause they suck!" were shown no mercy. I felt like Denzel Washington in Remember The Titans as I stood in front of the class fired with anger. I am very disappointed with those students who thought they were so great - "You wouldnt be here if you think you are THAT great!" I'm sorry. I couldnt help saying that cause it's the truth.
What, just because you can pronounce all the fashion label names, watch Hollywood movies and ..I dont know...appreciate the arts, you think you are better than the rest? I was so cheesed off, man. But the thing was, I was not targeting anyone in particular. It was collective and generic and not personal. Knowing me, I was only angry for like..5 minutes. And then, I stood there, just talking.
During the break, I called the student who ambushed me earlier.
Ed: So, do you still want to do it on your own?
Student: (just plain sulking)
Ed: It's not my decision. I will have to bring it up to the management and eventually, Cambridge.
Student: I think...it's okay.
Ed: Are you sure? I need to talk to my boss.
Student: It's okay. I'll join my group. But... you didnt have to scold me, right?
And she shot me a look.
Scolded her?
What the ...nabei ch%^b%$^!
Ed: Eh hello, I was addressing the class.
Student: Yeah but you were scolding me.
Ed: Gosh, you were not the only person who came up to me. I was bugged the whole weekend by other students' whim and fancy. This is not just about you. This is not personal. Deal with it.
I didnt scream.
I just said it matter-of-factly.
Suka hati kau lah, budak.

La nuit
The night has come and that's the end of our weekend, ladies and gentlemen.
Woke up early and managed to catch MAGIQUE at the cathay with Meiling just now. MAGIQUE is a sweet and simple French fare, quasi-musical, very whimsical and heart warming. I could relate to the show...hit a raw nerve or two and I was struck with melancholy. 'Twas a horrible feeling, this malancholy.
Went to SIA office to settle some travel issue and managed to walk along Orchard...just to mix and mingle with people. Once in a while, I do miss the social touch; be it with Singaporeans, tourists or aliens.
Tomorrow, it's back to the drama series of my work life. It's like The Office meets Mind Your Language meets Boston Public meets The West Wing meets Dangerous Minds meets Ally McBeal.

All too much talk and not enough sex.

Because the night...
Went to the zoo with Meiling and Lauren just now. We were there for 4 hrs, roasting ourselves. We love the zoo... But it was farking scorching.
Man U are leading Spurs 4-2. Freaking great 2nd half.
Now excuse me, my skin is itching cause it's slightly charred. Let me scratch.
And Berbatov has sneaked in another goal.
5-2!

Know your enemy
I am rolling on the bedroom floor feeling terrible cause I had too much caffeine in my blood. Part nauseous, part palpitatable (fine...new word) and part downright miserable.
I left work at 2115hrs after freezing my tits off sitting in isolation in the Mass Comm room doing my work. Earlier at 1630hrs, there was a department meeting. Shiteous as always.
Random note: My EZ link is nowhere to be found. Upset.
Anyway, I thought of getting food but I was not in the mood to sit and eat. Headed to Starbucks to get a caramel macchiato and with the venti cup in my hand, I zombied my way down towards Orchard Road. Just wanted to walk and save whatever I could on the single-trip MRT ticket fee.
Yeah, I can be cheap that way.
Didnt last very far cause when I reached Somerset, I sensed a brewing tummyache. Oh well. I saved 20c haha.
I am hungry but I cant seem to drag my tired self to the kitchen. I wouldnt have blogged either if God didnt create smart phones and wireless internet connection.
*roll around and moan and being generally pathetic*
I need to buy myself a new life sans rolling and moaning ... Unless of course it's the *ahem* horizontal tango kind. I feel you, papi.
P/S: Reading the AWARE saga is making me nauseous.
P/P/S: Mention reading, TODAY published 2 intriguing articles today. One by an Israel ambassador slamming Ahmadinejed's racist comment and the other written by a Muslim (I assume, judging by name...I could be wrong) slamming UN biased reactions towards Ahmadinejed by boycotting and walking out of the conference. Tasty.

Woman like a man
I hate to start all over again and maybe that's what keeping me here. I love my job, dont get me wrong, but (yes, there's a but) I am not excelling. I love teaching media but apparently, my job is not about that anymore. No one appreciates my brain and hey, I do have one. It's almost time to move on. The truth will set you free, Ed.
You are too close to the students
You are not mixing with the students
Don't hang out with the students
Go and be a friend to your students
Build rapport with your colleagues
Don't talk so much to your colleagues
We want to see you put in more effort
We don't want you to stay at work so late
You are an academic
You are a marketeer
Be a mentor
Be a robot
Step out of your comfort zone
Don't research for something too long
Prepare for class well
But do so within 30 minutes
Take new responsibilities
Plan office recreation activities
Try not to have so many failure cases
Be professional in marking
Be serious
Why arent you smiling
Fuck you
No, not tonight
And we've got ourselves an angry verse, ladies and gentlemen.

Braindead hero
A friend from my SG Pools day posted the following clip. He was mugging for his exams at the NUS library when out came a familiar character.
Ah, the stress!
They should see me when it's marking period.
I became The Joker and screamed at my boss, "WHY SO SERIOUS????"

Should i check the results of American Idol now? Should I wait? If I were to wait, can I last the whole day without being crazy? I have a seminar to attend in the afternoon...can I focus? Should I check?
...ho hum...

Okay.
Done.

I do not hook up
It's the second consecutive night that I slept around midnight-ish just so that I can catch the 0300hrs EPL matches. It's Man U vs Pompey right now.
And we're leading 1-0, thanks to Rooney's tap-in in the first half. It's 10 mins into the 2nd half and so far it has been a bag of wasted chances by the Devils.
The match is a slow one...then again, after yesterday's crunching goalfest, it's hard to keep up. Though I hope to see one more goal at least, maybe Man U should close shop early and just defend.

Sour girl
Yes, it's normal to hire workers so that their productivity can bring in the profits for you. But there is a fine line between being an employer and a slave-driver.
Read this. It will open up your eyes on Dubai and its plasticity.
Will Singapore go this way too? Or, have we?

Head hurts. Am going home.
Idol!

How does a teacher write a university reference letter for students whom she thinks are not up to standard? How can she write the truth when she has to pass this letter back to the student, instead of straight to the university?
...decisions, decisions.
Writing in a negative light of course jeopardises the student's chance of enrolment. That's not all, it jeopardises the good name of the institution where the student comes from too. I mean, if the student is that bad, how can he/she pass your examinations and assignments, right? And if the student is so bad, why didnt I, as her teacher do something about it? If the student is so bad, why wasnt he/she kicked out?
...dilemma, dilemma
Gosh. I hate this unnecessary stress.

21st century digital boy
If the UN accused Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of not respecting human rights, slammed his speech and walked out of the conference, aren't they ... not respecting the freedom of speech which they have been advocating all this while?
Admit it.
It's because he's Iranian and is a Muslim, right?
Humans and our selective behaviour.

I have been reading a regional magazine for the past few days (I am not a fast reader so sue me) and in this magazine, many APAC journalists are pressing for a more effective ASEAN. They liken the organisation to an irony; united but segregated. Very insightful indeed. It didnt hit me until I started to read word for word of all those articles as I jostled my way around the super-packed MRT rides day in and day out.
Am too broke for cab rides now.
Plus, reading in cab gives me motion sickness
So, there's a blessing in taking the train.
I've grown an inch of knowledge.
The articles ask why cant ASEAN be more like EU where, though criticism against each other flies thick and fast, the relationship the members have is strong. EU is like a band of brothers - arguing - but at the end of the day, they have each other's back and just like siblings, will rally together in times of need. Sharing a common currency and allowing convenient border access strengthen the unity. One journalist asks why cant members of ASEAN work like that. What is the purpose of ASEAN?
I find this an ideal, yet scary thought - to allow easy border access to prevent trafficking. Maybe I am selfish but I am thinking of my country (Singapore, by the way...in case you dont know) and what's going to happen to it should we allow such things to happen. Honestly, I feel that many people would want to come here. We are like the New York of the East. However, unlike other countries, we dont have the space to accommodate everyone. On top of that, many Singaporeans have a highly westernised and progressive perspectives which are different from the perspectives of those from the neighbouring countries. There will be conflict. I feel it wont be to our benefit to have an open relationship like that.
See, I am individualistic; definitely not an Asian attitude. But the thing is, I am not the only one here in Singapore. Will we feel safe having fellow Asians walking in and out of our country? We should feel safe but right...who are we kidding, right?
Singapore doesnt play the race and religion card alot. Again, that sets us apart from our neighbours. If we were to change ASEAN and make it a collectively stronger association, Singapore has to be able to adapt being exposed to such issues. Now, are we ready? Another alternative is to not have other ASEAN member countries talk about race and religion issues. Again...who are we kidding?
How about sharing a common currency? I am beginning to cry out of fright here if we were to use a common currency (e.g. Asian dollar). The economic growth in SEA is, let's put it this way, different. To which/whose economy and market are we going to peg that currency to? If Singapore...why? If not Singapore...why?
Shudder.
One journalist says that ASEAN is not an association of South East Asia nations, but ASEAG, an association of South East Asian governments. Eh, that's true. Obviously the ASEAN leaders are not representatives of all the people in SEA. Who does Myanmar represent, anyway? Almost all of the members are just representing the governments and who make up the governments?
The elites.
And the elites do not want to interfere with the other countries' social issues because it's not Asian-like to mind other people's business. Plus, we have our own problems to worry. Then what's the freaking point in having ASEAN? What's the point when we cannot stop the human rights abuse in Myanmar? What's the point when we dont even want to be a pressure group, advocating change and stability in Asia?
*grumble grumble*
ASEAN is rubbish, ya'll.
P/S: I'll migrate to New Zealand and be a shepherd should ASEAN become like EU.

Room at the top
I fell asleep while playing the guitar on Wii ... It was an ugly sight, me sitting on a plastic stool in front of the telly, slumping over the guitar, semi-unconscious with my left fingers still fiddling the frets.
.....
Arsenal lead at halftime one goal to nil at Anfield right now. I fell asleep and woke up for 2nd half. Didnt see Arshavin's goal. Yeah,,,cant believe I actually bothered to get up also.
Hopefully Arsenal will maintain their lead. We dont want to see Liverpool topping the table, do we? Do we? Do we?
Oh crap!
Torres scored.
Liverpool are on par with Man U in terms of table points now.
Oh crap! Benayoun just scored. Liverpool just topped the table now. Just great.
What happened to Arsenal during their half time break? This is crazy. So unpredictable and that's why we love the beautiful game.
Oh well.
..............................
66th min and Arshavin scored for Arsenal. Back in the game, baby. And Liverpool are back on par with Man U on the table.
70th minute and Arshavin scored again!!!
Who's the biatch now?
Woohoo!
73rd minute and Torres equalised everything again. Ah, what the fuck Arsenal??
I cant take this anymore.
.............................
What? Arshavin score again??? 4th goal tonight. Wow. This is crazy but hey Arsenal's leading at the 89th min. Man U! Man U!
This is a freaking crazy match. 5 mins added time. Oh god.
93rd minute and Benayoun equalises. Waaaaaaahlaaaaaaoehh! This is madness!
And the match finally ends. 4 goals a side. Crazy...and Liverpool top the table by goal difference.
Beautiful, beautiful game.
What a freaking thrilling match.
Thank you, Gunners and Reds.
Thank you Arshavin, Torres and Benayoun.
Sleep!!

Baby you're a rich man
The ghost of you
At 1400hrs on Sunday, i thought I had experienced something freaky. I was in the kitchen when I saw the toilet door close. There was no sound so I tried to open the door cause...err, we dont close our toilet doors when they are not in use.
However, for the love of me, I couldnt open it and it felt like someone locked it from inside. I tried a few times and then I thought maybe there was someone; the mother, Lexie or the sister.
''Hoi! Hoi! Who's inside! Hoi what are you doing?''
No sound and the door continued to be jammed.
''Hoi! Open the door lah! What are you doing inside?''
Then that was when I heard some muffled sounnds. It sounded like the sister saying ''Me...me..'' Okay, maybe she went to the kitchen toilet when I was ironing my clothes.
So I left the locked toilet door and went to my room. Lo and behold, I saw the sister sleeping like a dead pig on her bed.
I ran to the kitchen and gave the toilet door a flying kick. It opened. No one. The mother then realised the ruckus which I had created but she scoffed at my story.
Oh well.
Then last night, the sister came home at around 0300hrs while I was trying to sleep off the Man U pissiness. She went to the kitchen and came back:
Sis: Eh, why did you leave the gas on?
Ed: What, lah...what gas..
Sis: The stove...gas was on. Wanna die, ah?
Weird.
I was the last one in the kitchen and I didnt notice/smell anything. Better still, there was no food on the stove and no one cooked earlier.
O-kaaaaaaaaaay.

My lovin (no you never gonna get)
Bodoh nak mampus...kecik-kecik tak mau mati.
We lost, we lost. When the game ended in a stalemate and dragged to extra time, I knew we were done for. Penalty-kick time was just putting an anchor to an already sinking bag of potatoes.
Bodoh punya babi. Overfed, overpaid assholes. Flipping morons. Wastrel badgers. Ill-bred wankers. Tofu fucktards. Arrrrrggghhhhhh!
Going to bed all pissed off and bothered.
Angry sex, much?
A thousand times goodnight, drunken brawlers.
P/S: Almost flung my E71 at the TV...straight into Uncle Fergie Ferg's face.
