You know you're right

Met up with Rae and Lauren last night at Timbre...at the Asian Civilisation Museum. If you were there, we were the ones sitting right in front of the stage, huddling together and staring into space while Pam and Fatt (huat ah, huah ah!) were doing their stuff on the stage.

I just wanted to space out out and away.

Was listening to my song selection when I chanced upon Santana's. Again I forgot that the concert is this coming Monday. Now where did I put my ticket?

Where???

Gawd love this song.
The voice is so sexy it hurts.

But but but...this is the one that makes (ahem) me hot.

Sizzle ma nizzle!!!

I wonder how would they perform this song this Monday. I dont think Rob Thomas will be there. And I am also sure (+100%) that I wont be standing up on my seat contemplating to take off my top (hahaha!!) even though the music is scorching. That's so sad.

O well.

[Cryptic moment: You were right. I dont want to be here, if you're going to be there. Was that supposed to happen? I'll hold tight. I'll remember to smile. Though it has been a while. And without you does it matter?]

Anyway, so yesterday was Valentine's Day. Some couples had candlelit dinner, some sat by the river (with a million other couples) listening to the free loungey music from the nearby pubs and some attempted group dates or double date to the movies.

I was just waiting to be absinthed.

Show me the green fairy, please.

I many times thought peace had come
When peace was far away,
As wrecked men deem they sight the land
When far at sea they stay.

And struggle slacker, but to prove,
As hopelessly as I,
That many the fictitious shores
Before the harbor lie

Hello Goodbye

Tisch has opened a branch in Singapore. And it's oh so prestigious.

And I cannot afford it even if I were to work my ass off times two. $60K is no joke. Of course...I am not even sure if I can even smell their classrooms. Dont think I am good enough.

Fuck you, Tisch!!

..
..

Am surfing for arts schools for the sister. Am also looking out for myself.

La-Salle has stopped offering the postgraduate programme that I wanted. I am looking for other options. If the sister were to really get into NAFA next year, we just might be school mates.

Why am I not even considering NUS/NTU?

I dont know. I always like the road less (and more expensive) travelled.

I have a knack for making life hard for myself haha.

###

Escapin'

"Far from the madding crowd's ignoble strife
Their sober wishes never learn'd to stray;
Along the cool sequester'd vale of life
They kept the noiseless tenor of their way."

###

Stop and stare

I had an utterly devastating night. After bidding Idaho and Shortcake goodbye (after downing 2 JCo doughnuts), I made my way to The Cathay and managed to get a seat on the first row from the front no less.

But it was awrite cause I didnt want to miss this show anymore.

THE KITE RUNNER was so ..ergh..water fest. The film starts sweetly and it gets twisted and disturbing.

20 minutes into the movie, I was "gone". Breathing got heavy, eyes became misty and I had a lump in my throat. But I wasnt 100% emo. The tudung girl who sat next to me was irritating the bejesus out of me. She was whispering in a loud tone (yeah what the hell) to her boyfriend. They could even squeeze in a tickle or two. I shushed her up so many times and I glared at her so hard her tudung almost fell off. Haha.

Older Hassan (voice): I dream that my son will grow up to be a good person, a free person. I dream that someday you will return to revisit the land of our childhood. I dream that flowers will bloom in the streets again... and kites will fly in the skies!

...

Amir: For you, a thousand times over

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE KITE RUNNER was adapted from a Khaled Hosseini's book of the same name. I havent read it but I think now...I should. Although the film doesnt stray much from the original, I read that there are many parts which have been omitted due to cinematic constraints. I am so prepared to cry buckets while reading the book.

Oh well.

Yeah, the film depressed the hell out of me. I was so upset that even after the movie, I was crying. I couldnt take the MRT in my state of non-waterproof mascara mess so at 2145hrs, I decided to walk down Orchard, sniffing along the way.

It was quite funny.
People must be thinking that I'm such a pathetic thing;
Got dumped by the boyfriend on the eve of Valentine's Day
And decided to walk aimlessly in town.

I am "strolling"...
I am "strolling"...
Home again 'cross the sea
I am "strolling"...
Stormy waters
To be near you
To be free

And so I walked and walked. The tears just kept rolling down and I couldnt be bothered to cover anymore. After passing Far East Plaza, I headed to Newton...happy to get away from the madding crowd and into the darkness of the night.

It was like a walk around the world. Many ethnic/exotic restaurants and I passed various people of various nationalities. There was an Arab man who was strolling in his Arab gear, there was a drunk Malay man who was holding a can of beer and trying to make a phone call on his mobile phone. There was the ambulance who rushed to Hotel Asia (or is Hotel Royal?) probably to tend to a sick guest. There were 3 mainland Chinese who were grumbling at a bus stop, a group of noisy Jap teenagers, Caucasians who jogged to everywhere/anywhere and houses of various states of opulence along the way.

It was 2250hrs when I reached Velocity at Novena (1 hr!). Eyes were tired of tearing and I had a tummy ache. Took the train and headed home.

The walk did a bit of good in a way. Was able to think about some stuff and reflect on my life. I also managed to send an sms to the bestie who is slogging hard at work far away in Saigon, telling her I miss her so.

..

The sister came home yesterday full of hope. She had with her some info on NAFA courses which she was interested in. She ran by the father gingerly and told him about her plans but he shot her down saying he had no money after sending me to uni. He added that he was all the more "penniless" now that he's not working (till April) and that the brother's wedding was approaching. The sister was sad and she went back to the room...dejected beyond reasons.

I dont have the heart.

Think it is time I take it upon myself to see her through it. But of course being the selfish fuck that I am, I am still thinking about the New York trip. Haha.

That and all selfishness aside, yes I am for real when I say I take it upon myself to see through it. I have already consulted my agent to check on my insurance premiums and see how much I can get out of it. Worse come to worse, I withdraw them and start from scratch, I guess.

I had my time to soar ... let it be her turn.
And I think it is time I step up my big sister act.

My masters plan can wait I guess.
Boooooo...

..

Lesson here is that when you want to start a family, be prepared for everything and be financially secured.

My parents didnt think that their kids would study beyond secondary school level (I think) and they didnt have the means to let us go far beyond that anyway. It was beyond their imagination that I would want to go to Aussie. They couldnt predict that their youngest child (the sister) would want to go NAFA after her Nitec either. I guess being poor and not highly educated themselves made them short-sighted (not literally). I dont blame the parents. Well, not totally. I blame it on ignorance and cultural "mis-education".

See?
I cant help being emo sometimes.
I think a lot about life.
The what-ifs and all the possibilities
The lost chances and what-could-have-beens

..

Anyway Specimen A asked me out at 0130hrs just now. "Out" as in.."Get out of the house now now now cause I want to meet you" kind of thing. I hated it and I made it known clearly that I didnt like to be commanded / ordered around. He offered to cab down from Bukit Timah to my place instead. I didnt like to be pressurised so I told him off. I didnt see the urgency in meeting up anyway. And besides, wah lao, where to go at 0200hrs?

He said I'm a toughie.
I told him to suck on a lemon.

If you're wondering why I'm still talking to Specimen A, well, I want to see how long he's going to try or to entertain me. I do admit that we have interesting intelligent chats once in a while. Him being a lawyer makes it all the more bizarre. He definitely has the tongue of a liar and I take it as a personal challenge to differentiate what he says as truth or fallacy.

Fine fine fine.
The main reason is that I am just using him for blog fodder.

Oh bitch please... I know you like to read about it.

A thousand times goodnight, my bitches.

Maggi May

I survived my first back-to-work day.
Curly hair and all.
Phew!

The schedule for March is out and looks crazy; so crazy that I cannot attend Maroon 5 concert cause I'll be working till 2200hrs on that day. Anyway yes, I have to start preparing for my Monash classes. This season, I am going to teach Media Studies, International Journalism (yeeech!) and Screen Theories and Techniques (aka Cinema Studies). Of course this is on top of my diploma/high diploma classes of Pop Culture, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Public Relations (GOD!!!#!!%$%^) and Mass Comm. Looking at the schedule, I see many late classes and not many morning ones. Finally...ladies' night. Hahaha.

Right.

Anyway, just want to share that J.Co Donuts are here in Raffles City. And I'm going to get them now and then maybe I shall hop over to The Cathay to catch The Kite Runner alone.

All right, going to the loo to check on my hair ... again.

Stupid Girl

I just fried my hair and it's all curled up like Maggi Goreng now.

I dont know what came over me.
Waaaaaaaaaah!!!

I was supposed to meet Meiling and Sharinah at AMK Central at 2030hrs. After spending the whole afternoon at Dempsey Hill with Des and Alfian, I took the bus from Orchard and reached AMK at 1845hrs. Decided to trim my hair to kill time.

But...urgh..itchy backside. Instead of saying "I want to trim my hair," I said "Do you think it will be all right if I were to perm my hair?". Stupid. Of course the hair dresser would say "Of course!" lah!!!! La moron!!

Mind you...this was the same hairstylist who gave me my Joe Cole (yes I looked like him)/Robbie Williams' (circa 1995) hairstyle when I was 16.

I looked cute, ok.
You cant imagine.

Anyway, I sat in there for 1.5 hours while the "auntie" and her friend tugged and curled my hair. Sharinah joined me at 2015hrs and proclaimed that I was a brave girl who finally decided to perm her hair.

Now I sulk cause I dont like the outcome.

Hair's so curly, it looks like those wigs worn by magistrates.
Yeeks!

Anyway, it's back to work in about 6 hours time.

And the saga continues.

A thousand times goodnight offices slaves!

Don't stop movin!

What a day!!!

Started off with the Grammy's early in the morning. My favourite performance was of Wino doing her thing ~ all bizarre and hypnotic.

I then rushed down to Toa Payoh to meet Joanne and Susan for lunch at 1345hrs. We headed to the the Sakura buffett where I attached the mussels and the cakes. Ate until I couldnt eat anymore ... all in less than 1 hour cause we came late for the lunch time session.

Bivalve molluscs and I... we have a love-hate thing going on.

After walking around the TPY Central to get some stuff, Susan and I headed to Jo's home at around 1530hrs. Once there, we checked out her wedding pictures (we wanted to look for our own faces actually!) and then...it all began. It was time to Wii.

Susan teaching Jo how to play one dumb pig-kena-exploded game.

We three took turns to play Rayman and the Raving Rabbids.

Sean joined us soon after at about 1900hrs and we played tennis doubles after that. I paired with Sean and we got a thrashing from the seemingly-lame "tai-tais". Jay got home and we went downstairs for dinner. Had not much of appetite to eat cause I was having a freaking headache due to screaming too much and prolong watching of the TV screen.

After dinner, we continued Wii-ing. Sean left us soon after to meet some friends, leaving us 4 (Jay, Jo, Susan and me) to continue screaming at one another as we compete to see who could shoot/dance/run faster.

Intense stuff.
Almost severed friendship!

At 2200hrs, we were still screaming and shouting.
We finally called it a day at almost 2300hrs!
Crazy onions!

Right now, the brain is still excited but the eyes can barely keep up. Hopefully I dont get nightmares. Or worse, fits.

A thousand times goodnight crazy bunnies on speed.

What hurts the most

Am up early watching the Grammys. But not early enough cause I missed the earlier perfomances by Carrie Underwood and Riri. Thank God I dont have to take leave this year. God bless my workplace for (just) this generosity.

Anyway... I LOVE MY FOO!!!

The best rock band (represent!!) and they have the Grammy to prove it!

And of course ... I LOVE MY ALCOHOLIC WINO!!

They try to make me go to rehab ... and I'd say no too.

Am still a bit high on life. Past few days have been a dream. However, think by tonight, I can feel slight depression coming in.

Last night, I met CY2, Vinz, Adrian, Zhenni, Alfian, Desiree and Pak Budi at Marina Square. Pak Budi brought along these 2 men who wanted to know more about our Timor trip (which was like years ago...2 years already!). These 2 men were into the logistics and planning and stuff and unfortunately, they asked the wrong group of people hahaha. We were more like talking about the fun times, the impromptu-ness of it all, the passion and bla bla bla. All they wanted to know were the technicalities of stuff. Haiyah...

At about 2230, we (sans Pak Budi and the men) headed to Cosafe at CHIJMES to catch the 2nd half of the disastrous Manchester derby. Expecting the Chelsea-Liverpool match to be better, CY2, Alfian, Vinz and I stayed back to catch it. You know the outcome...urgh.

All right. Bocelli and Groban are singing a favourite song. Need to shower too. Meeting Jo and Susan at Toa Payoh for our "tai-tai" CNY pai nian session.

Later.

Air for life!

Wh..What day is it?
What? What?
I cant hear you.

It felt so good to finally "come home" last night; home to where it all began in my whole life of clubbing - Zouk main arena. Kind of felt I've come full circle and maybe, I can finally call it a day.

Okay.
Not just yet.
Soon.

Fifi, Dina and I were stumped at the snaking queue outside Zouk. EuropaDiscoDancer told me last week there would be a guest band coming but I didnt expect the turnout to be amazing. Phuture displayed a no-entry sign so everyone had to queue for Zouk.

We called Benson who was already inside with his posse and they managed to get us in through Phuture (which allowed us to go to Zouk, but not vice versa) all free of charge and sans queueing.

Life was looking good.

After much hassling, I finally managed to get those 2 clowns to the dancefloor. Benson and gang were too busy drinking (they are like...Alcoholic Ambassadors!) and canoodling to dance so we three broke away. After about 30 minutes of rapid pseudo-shuffling (fine, I'm a whale and I cant do it!), Din dragged us to Phuture.

Nope.
Didnt feel it.

Phuture's dancefloor was packed as usual with wannabe hip-hoppers: Chinese boys who could be riding dirty and cranking, and Chinese girls who could really pon de replay and dip it low and bring it up slow (huh??). If Friday night was like one night in Chennai in O Bar, last night was the rape of Nanking in Phuture.

But hey, it's all good. That means the world is becoming more globalised (and hip, no?) than it thinks it is. 5 years ago, it was so hard to see a Chinese girl danced a la Pussycat Dolls like CY2!

Anyway, even Dina, the self-confessed RnB/hip hop freak, didnt quite feel it. Fifi was lost in his/her own world while I was just elbowing everyone for space and getting disgusted looking at cannot-make-it grinders, pervs and touchy-feely couples. We left not long after ... retreating back to the thumping beats of Zouk at 0215hrs.

Heh, Dina has converted!

This was not taken last night.
Just a sample of what we had.

Oh well.

The night at the dancefloor ended at 0330hrs for me. I almost wanted to die when Fifi went up the podium at 0300hrs. I tugged Dina's sleeves and screamed:

"Oi!!! Your friend is at the podium!!"
"I know!"
"Wah lau!! I want to go home already lah!!!"
"You go up the podium and pull him down!"
"Crazy! You go!"

We let him be. Crazy bugger was probably high or something. Thankfully, he lasted only 30 minutes. He stepped down and it was time to go back.

Lepak-ed at the coffeeshop and at 0400hrs, we finally crawled into a cab. EuropaDiscoDancer, who just reached Zouk, asked me to join him back in there. But no...my limbs were giving way. No way am I going back in there.

Back home, the sister was still up so we spent time watching NSync MTVs on Youtube together (yeah, I drive myself crazy sometimes) and talked about the Melbourne shuffle until almost six.

Naturally, I didnt make it in time for the CNY visit to Ah Kiong's parents' place in Yishun. Aiyah, Gong Xi Fa Cai lah, Uncle!

Awrite. It's already 1700hrs and I'm stiill groggy. I havent done any work these past 5 days and it feels kind of nice haha. I shall start tonight.

..
..
..

After I come back from dinner with the Pak Budi and the Timor gang tonight.

And after the Manchester derby and the Chelsea-Liverpool clash.

Life is good.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

P/S: We can always grow up tomorrow.

I'll be seeing you

My Dearest Allie,

I couldn't sleep last night because I know that it's over between us. I'm not bitter anymore, because I know that what we had was real. And if in some distant place in the future we see each other in our new lives, I'll smile at you with joy and remember how we spent the summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love.

The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds, and that's what you've given me. That's what I hope to give to you forever.

I love you. I'll be seeing you.

Noah

...

I am intoxicated with fatigue, not forgetting Chinese New Year goodies, late nights and sweaty bodies. Went to O Bar last night with CY2, Des, Vinz, Adrian, Alfian and others whose names elude me and only got home this morning at 0645hrs. By 1500hrs I was at CY's place, eating myself silly and playing GibHo's computer game on his laptop. Am at home now watching the delicious movie The Notebook and wishing that I am in love.

A forbidden love, to make it more exciting.

Right.

Going to Zouk later.

The holidays are leaving me in a whirl and I kind of like it.

P/S: Work? What work?

Your disco needs you :)

This Chinese New Year sees me pai nian everyday until Monday.

Yes, my schedule is packer than the Chinese!

Crazy.

P/S: I am tired...but hah, clubbing tonight!

Helpless

Life's a bitch and we know it.

AWAY FROM HER is like a lump in the throat which will never go away. Was chewing my nails and knuckles 3/4 of the story...anything chewable which was within reach i guess. Throughout the entire show, I had a deep sick feeling within.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

[Kristy leads Frank down the hallway, past a devastated Grant]

Frank: [as a play-by-play announcer] Well, once again, Nurse Kristy is taking me back to the second floor. The area to my right are the elevators, and as we go on down the hall, there's a man with a broken heart, broken in a thousand pieces. Well, we'll go to Madeleine's office, past the lunch room. Hopefully, they're serving right now. The cannelloni was cold yesterday, but let's see what it's doing today. Let's have - I gotta have some Cokes again. That's what I'm gonna do.

...

Fiona: I'd like to make love, and then I'd like you to go. Because I need to stay here and if you make it hard for me, I may cry so hard I'll never stop.

...

Fiona: [reading from a book] Never let a person make you feel guilty for your anger with God.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AWAY FROM HER is depressing shit, no joke. But as much as I want to bawl and cry into Lauren's or Fifi's armpits, I couldnt. And I know why.

The film simplifies everything and makes it look palatable. In actual fact, Alzheimer's disease is far more brutal. I've heard and I've seen...it's nowhere near the one portrays in the film. So in a way, I feel the movie falls slightly short. Just slightly...cause they Disney-fy it.

And the ending... I would have prefer something more impactful and tragic. Something gut wrenching. Something that makes me want to roll on the cinema floor with self-loathing, self-pity ... total abomination.

Cause Lord I so need a good cry.
And oh...a good hug.

We all need one.
Cant even remember when was the last time I got a hug
And from who...

There is a town in north Ontario
With dream comfort memory to spare
And in my mind
I still need a place to go
All my changes were there

Blue, blue windows behind the stars
Yellow moon on the rise
Big birds flying across the sky
Throwing shadows on our eyes
Leave us

Helpless, helpless, helpless
Baby can you hear me now?
The chains are locked
and tied across the door
Baby, sing with me somehow

Blue, blue windows behind the stars
Yellow moon on the rise,
Big birds flying across the sky
Throwing shadows on our eyes
Leave us

Helpless, helpless, helpless - Helpless, Neil Diamond

Pardon me.

Creative/artistic/talented people are emotionally tortured people. I happen to be one of them. Hah. I've learnt to deal with it. It's the trait of the genius, I'm told.

A thousand times goodnight, emotionally wounded casualties.

The Circle

Whenever I am bored out of my skull or just in need of a few bittersweet tears, I will youtube my favourite sitcom ever. I will laugh a little and shed a tear or two. I have seen this finale hundreds of times and I still havent got tired of it. Nothing like good friends and an ol' skool romance to do the trick.

I hope I am not missing on anything in life ... only to regret it later.

The irony was that I grew up with That '70s Show.

*sniff*

P/S: Think I'll buy the DVDs or something.

U make me wanna...

I have blocked Specimen A for the time being. I do like to chat with him once in a while but it gets a little tiring now. He's beginning to put me off; trying to be all romantic and sensual with his words. He thinks he knows me...but he doesnt. If he does, I am sure he knows that speaking is not my thing. I rather let the actions do the talking.

Quit talking.

Went to the Principal's house earlier in the day with some colleagues and students and had lunch at his place. The place was opulent as always. Thank goodness Malik, the Biz Mascot, was there. This man is like a happy bunny. Always cracking jokes and easing awkwardness. Ate..yakked and I finally left that place at around 1430hrs.

Tired.
Very tired.

I know I have many work to do... but screw it, I'm going to take a break till Saturday. Or till anytime I deem fit. Even though I am not going anywhere, doesnt mean I have to do anything.

Though I really wish I am somewhere else.
Like in Tioman's Japamala Resort.

Anyone?

Yay-bel introduced this place to me and gosh...so gorgeous. Makes me want to fall in love and attack this place with him in tow. Sweet, sweet love.

Sigh.

To start it off I know you know me
To come to think of it, it was only last week
That I had a dream about us
That’s why I am here
I’m writing this song
To tell the truth you know I have been hurting all along
Someway let me know, you want me girl

Everytime you see me what do you see?
I feel like I’m a poor man and you’re the queen
Oh baby, you’re the only thing that I really need
Baby that’s why…

You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night
You make me wanna hold you till the morning light
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul
I know this is a feeling that I just can’t fight
You’re the first and last thing on my mind
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul

Well I know that these feelings won’t end
They’ll just get stronger if I see you again
Baby I’m tired of being friends
I wanna know if you feel the same
And could you tell me do you feel my pain?
Don’t leave me in doubt

Everytime you see me what do you see?
I feel like I’m a poor man and you’re the queen
Oh baby, you’re the only thing that I really need
And baby that’s why…

You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night
You make me wanna hold you till the morning light
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul
I know this is a feeling that I just can’t fight
You’re the first and last thing on my mind
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul

I’ll take you home real quick
And sit you down on the couch
Pour some Dom Perignon and hit the lights out
Baby we can make sweet love
Then we’ll take it nice and slow
I'm gonna touch you like you’ve never know before
We’re gonna make love all night

You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night
You make me wanna hold you till the morning light
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul
I know this is a feeling that I just can’t fight
You’re the first and last thing on my mind
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall
You make me wanna surrender my soul - Blue

Oh well.

The Kite Runner
Cj7

Argh! So many movies!! Will try to clear as many as possible now that I am having my 1-week CNY leave. Yes, the school is closed till the 12th for me. Anyone?

Mentioning the school...

The principal gathered all of us together on Monday and he gave us ang pow and oranges. The packet contained $20 and well...that took care of lunch and dinner.

The loot.
Boleh lah....

This year, we have done well.
Hope the Year of the Rat will bring in more good cheese.

No he didnt say that.

Idaho and I with our loots.

With Auntie MannyManny and Xinhua Press.
Both of them are leaving, leaving Idaho and Ed behind.

Shortcake and I happy with our oranges.
Make it..very happy with our oranges.
Haha.

Anyway...

That was on Monday. I went home and concussed on the floor as usual. Asleep at the papers. Tuesday was the last day of work before we headed off for the holidays. Everyone was in a good mood. Shortcake and I were in a mood so good we headed to Marina Square and had a long lunch.

It was also Editha's last day. Her departure was like a blitzkrieg. Boo hoo!

Editha and Malik, our Business Mascot. Hahaha.
All the best, Edi!

Shortcake and I left work and headed to Funan for a quick dinner. Following that, we met her husband at Apollo Centre and at 1845hrs, started our singing frenzy. KTV, baby.

No, I didnt snap any pictures cause I was busy laughing and fooling around with the couple (not that kind of fooling around!!). Couldnt even finish a song without laughing my ass off. Spice Girls' Spice Up Your Life took the cake!

Reached home at 2245hrs and yes...I fell asleep on the floor while reading the papers again.

What the hell...

Anyway...

Here's wishing those who celebrate a very Happy Chinese New Year. May you have some rodent luck and everything will be Ratatouilly beautiful this year.

Gong xi fa cai!
Xin nian kwai le!
Nian nian you yu!

Or lao shu.

Whatever.

Going to see the fireworks now.

Later.
