90 miles outside Chicago...

“Give you the tickets.”
“I’ve got plans.”
“Ah? I told you yesterday I may not go!”
“Yeah that was yesterday…you didn’t confirm anything with me, what.”
“But I told you already, what!”
“You didn’t confirm and you didn’t pass me the tickets.”

Gah.

Okay…petty bitterness gone. Not really feeling convivial, either, but it will be awrite by noon.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

So here’s my recap…FINALLY.

I met Susan @ the Esplanade on Friday to catch A Twist Of Fate. It’s a good production but I thought it was a bit draggy at times. But then again, so are most musicals, especially when they begin to sing during those not-sad-not-happy-not funny moments. One thing though, Laura Michelle Kelly was brilliant! Her voice is powerful and she looks gorgeous. Emma Yong was exceptional, too. Adrian Pang? All I can say is that he was given a not-so challenging role….but the show was definitely entertaining.

When I got back, I heard that Roy Keane was sacked from Manchester United. I wasn’t exactly shocked…just miffed that 12 Keane-years went by like that.

Schemeichel, Parker, Pallister / Irwin, Bruce, Sharpe and Ince/ Hughes, McClaire, Keane and Cantona / Robson, Kanchelskis and Giggs!”

13 down…1 more to go.

Saturday went by in a haze. Met Meiling at the photo studio @ Boat Quay and after that, we went for a walk. We strolled up the Philatelic Museum, to the National Archives, to ROM and eventually Fort Canning.
I persuaded Meiling to slack-jack in the park for a while. We chose a bench in front of this building, under shady trees and just sat there. I’ve been to Fort Canning 3 times before this and yet, I’ve never appreciated its surroundings. Before you get any funky ideas, the first time was my poly M ass Comm prom, 2nd was nani’s sister’s wedding and the 3rd was the Sheila On 7 concert.

Fort Canning is beautiful.

Maybe if I ever get married, I’ll have it here. Those mak ciks who cannot comprehend why I want to make my wedding there can go fly kite.

...

We sat there for about 30mins and then we continued our walk. When we reached Istana Park, we sat down again. This time, I wanted to admire the Istana driveway, the passing traffic (both vehicles and human), the pretty fountain with pretty flowers and the changing of day to night.

We sat there close to an hour. The X’mas lighting lit up at around 1845hrs and it was pretty. The breeze of dusk was a welcomed change to the dreary hear. I’ve never done this with Meiling – walked, relaxed by the road side (literally) and chatted about everything under the sun and moon (again, literally). It was a nice experience, indeed. It’s always nice to talk to an older person sometimes. Plus Meiling and I are so different…and yet, alike.

We walked down to Orchard Road…stopped by gym to change our schedules, Kinokuniya and eventually, we took a bus home.

Looking back. It was a great Saturday.

I shall post Sunday’s hike with the colleagues in the next article.

Tuesday Night Special

K is now pissed. Yesterday, K told me she specifically told IT to pass one ticket to me. But IT told her she wanted to bring a friend. K told her "cannot!". I wasn’t upset but frazzled because I was dragged into the mud.I do want to watch that show however...but I figure..I can afford it. Since I noticed almost everyone got a ticket, I casually asked K if I could have one, too. She said she had asked IT to pass it to me. But no...IT didn't mention about her holding my ticket. She did however say this:

"I've got 2 tickets. I'm supposed to watch it with my friend. Do you want to go? I can give you mine and ask my friend to go alone"

Of course I told her to keep the ticket! Actually I would have taken it if she told me it was rightfully mine. Oh well. Ruth gave me her ticket but I returned back to her. Then this morning (just now), IT said "I'm not going. Giving you two tickets."

Nice. I don't want to see anymore. I am meeting Meiling tonight. I cant say that I am 100% petty-free. In defence, I did tell K, however, maybe IT "didntt hear or get you properly. Miscommunication."

Oh well.

So IT passed the tickets to B...telling B that Mona "didnt want to go anymore. And guess what? B came over barely a minute ago and passed me the tickets!

Screw up.
But, thanks.Although i have this sick feeling of wanting to just chew up the tickets.
Now I have two sets of tickets to different shows - Chicken Little and Zathura.

I serve my head up on a plate

…am so underdressed today. My 410pound skirt (400 for plane ticket, 10 for skirt), my $5 faded black Tshirt and my old, black havaianas. What? It was raining…

Nihilo sanctum estne?
Apparently, nothing is.

So here I am, shaking my head for the 3rd time. I know this time round is a different predicament. However, I can just give you a shrug and say “Good luck.” I’m sorry that the wedding will still be on. It has slowly becoming a joke to me but hey, hopefully, I’ll eat my words. Those will be the words I’ll gladly eat, by the way. Still, I’m sorry. I’ve booked myself out on Christmas Day.

Am eating instant mashed potato. Added too much water and it’s now a lump of mush. Mentioning eating…yes…I’ve put on a kilo. Fuckety hell. That’s it, lah. No need to eat the mother’s cooking already. And damn…why are the cheap and convenient food unhealthy?

Just finished a bout of thinking. If you feel offended by what’s coming, well…you shouldn’t, because you obviously are not in my degrees of separations. I think we Malay-Muslims (not meaning the whole population…rather, my social circle) asked for it. We are all too screwed up with our self-titled morality, we confused other races, especially the Chinese, who cannot make up head or tail.

I know. I am so guilty of it, too.

It’s like we pray 5 times and that’s about it? We want ‘halal’ food but sometimes, we “exceptionalise” it? We wear ‘tudung’s and yet, fuck behind closed doors? We go on a ‘haj’ just to show off? We don’t wear tudung and then we wear skimpy clothes? We gamble, we drink, we tattoo, we pierce, we mix freely and we speak the language of the devil? No wonder my Chinese friends don’t know what is a Malay-Muslim friend anymore.

We don’t know! Wo men bu ming bai!

But but but but but but but…

True. Not all of us are like that. Or at least most of us are just partly guilty. I do however, know of some non-Muslim friends who egged me to drink and eat pork just because they have other Muslim friends who do. They will be laughing and mocking me for my refusal. I can swear I have NEVER taunted a Buddhist/Hindu friend to eat beef!Sometimes I wonder why we are still friends. But I don’t blame them. They are just dumb and ignorant…and partly, some of my behaviours didn’t help either.

But I just want to write this down here and tell myself.

I am trying, you know. I am trying. I would like to change myself completely and be perfect. But this cannot happen overnight. I would like to be a pure ‘halal’-certified Muslim, you know but I have to admit, the way to that acme is hard. And it certainly doesn’t help when I have fellow satans as friends. But I’ll try. Insya Allah I’ll try.

And I don’t mean to shock…but few months back I told a friend that I’ll be wearing the ‘tudung’ when I reach 30. I’ve 5 more years to that. Of course, if it’s earlier, I’ll have to take it. But yeah…I give myself by 30. Hopefully, I can live till then.

Oh well. This will suffice for now. Again I have to emphasise. I am NOT a pure ‘halal’-eating and vice-free person. I DON’T pretend that I am. I just want to evolve…and not be caught in any uncompromising positions regularly. Slowly.

OKAY OKAY.
I’ve slaughtered myself enough.
It’s awrite, lah. It’s between God and me anyway.

P/S; I cant believe this ranting was triggered by another Chinese friend who wished me Happy New Year.

Will post my weekend activity later.

I'm only happy when it rains

Tu as besoin de savoir si tu l'aimes? Non?

If I didnt know you any better (or if I totally ignore our intended conversation), I would have thought you were being naughty. Heheheh. And the answer is non, je n'ai pas besoin de savoir.

People love to be
around you because you're a lot of fun. YOUR

likely one of the funniest and fun to be around
people around. When you're having a good time,
your amazing smile shows it!

What kind of smile do you have?

Heh.

When I was teaching some NPCC stuff in a I-cant-remember-which-one school, a male teacher came out of nowhere and said I have a nice smile. Awwwww…..he looked gay, though.

The parents were watching Deuce Bigelow The European Gigolo last night when the mother’s mad laughter lured me out. So I watched the celluloid rubbish with them and secretly enjoying myself. There was this girl who wore a veil because she had a dick on her face. When she sneezed, she sent cum flying all over.

(Translated)
Father: Eeeeh…disgusting mucus!
Mother: It’s phlegm, lah!
Me: What the hell…she has a konek on her face. What do you think it is?

I felt awkward. I seldom used the word konek. That’s “dick” in some pidgin/patois Malay language, I guess. I could have just said “dick”. Doh!

*Look outside. It’s raining. Why does it always rain whenever I wear long sweeping skirts? Dammit.*

Was watching a TV show last night and it mentioned about your colleagues becoming like your family. Let me break it down now…

The Mafia = the evil step-mother
The Eggman = the weird uncle whom everyone hates
IT = the young mother
B = the whimsical auntie
CY = the kooky cousin
Dear = the “innocent” sister
Richard = the ah beng father
Wim = the quiet grandpa who likes to sleep
Maran = the Indian hubby of Auntie B
Li Ping & Viv = the quiet cousins who visit once a year
PK = the spinster auntie
Yve = the forever-young auntie
K = the loud ah soh of an auntie…who is actually adopted

Urgh. I am so lame.

Mentioning “lame”…there’s something even lame-r than me. It’s the new local drama, Lifeline. I cant figure out if it’s meant to be funny, serious or slapstick-stupid. I figured there’s dark humour, lah. My dad wants me to join the force and be like these people, is it?

I don’t know…it cant fully be the scripwritert’s fault. I’m sure if Charlie Chaplin said those lines, it would not sound so lame. It cant totally be the actors’ fault, right? I mean…they are fine doing their craft in Chinese and Malay shows.

Are local actors not destined to act in English? It’s like AIDS. This disease cant be cured.

We sound “low-class” speaking Singlish on TV … we sound pretentious not speaking Singlish on TV. Maybe we should do silent movies, instead... where every chee bye or “fuck” expletive is being symbolised by the peace sign. What? We cannot have middle fingers popping up on prime time, can we?

In my silent movie, this stands for chee bye!.

Mentioning chee bye, I’ve just being assigned by (s)he-who-shall-not-be-named (okay, it’s the Mafia) to do fucking Tamil books! TAMIL BOOKS!!!!!!! What’s wrong with this people? I’ve been given the higher malay, express and the special stream packages and now I am doing Tamil packages as well?

Walao!

Whatever.
Just pile it on,
I don’t care.
There’s no love.
The day is coming.
This will all be a thing in the past.
Arrivederci.

First they ignore you
Then laugh at you and hate you
Then they fight you
Then you win
When the truth dies
Very bad things happen
They're being heartless
Again

I know, it’s gonna, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence
When is broken there's nothing to break

You've been mixing
With some very heavy faces
They boys have done
A bit of bird
They don't kill their own
And they all love their mothers
But you're out of your depth son
Have a word

I know, it’s gonna, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence
The heart broken there's nothing to break

All is wonderful in this life
Dreaming of the sun she warms
You should see me in the afterlife
Picking up the songs of lures

When you think we're lost, we're exploring
What you think is work because I'm adoring
You don't want the truth, truth is boring
I've got this fever need to
Leave the house
Leave the car
Leave the bad men where they are
I'll leave a few shells in my gun
And stop me staring at the sun

Me Buying You A Cadillac?

My head is itching...dont tell me i've got lice, can?

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Spent the whole afternoon cracking my lil head thinking of witty stuff to write in the YG Eye Spy article. Obviously, not witty enough. On top of that, I also surfed for possible dining places for the birthday celebration. This is a record. I'm actually planning 2 months ahead.

I have listed a page full of places. Next I will have to meet up with Lauren soon and come up with a questionnaire/survey for the moonies on budget, location, cuisine, ambience, bla bla bla. I guess it wont be right if the only people enjoying themselves that day are just Lauren and I. This is getting quite exciting ... i hope the moonies are fine with this.

Yeah..just the moonies. It's because I'm combining with Lauren and besides, the number of moonies makes a perfect little party :)

I'm hungry right now. Terribbly hungry.
But that's my problem, I know.

I might be going to A Twist Of Fate tomorrow...the show @ Esplanade starring Adrian Pang and the acclaimed British actress Laura Michelle Kelly who was the Mary Poppins on West End.Hopefully, things will be fine and that I really get to watch it.

Lauren (she again? Haha) and I havent gotten tickets for RENT. I wonder if Sha and Nani are still "on" about it. Ladies, how? We are aiming for the matinee show on the 26th. It's at Kallang Theatre by the way.

26th seems so far.
And I just realise Sha has school on that day. Damn.
Oh wait. No school for her. But she has shooting till 1900hrs.

This weekend, I predict, wont be as crazy as the previous one. Saturday morning will see me accompanying Sharinah to HDB Office @ Toa Payoh to enquire about the house. I am thinking of squeezing gym after that...but i am afraid i cant make it back home and then to Clarke Quay by 1530hrs for the photo shoot. Whatever it is, I’ll be home by 2200hrs because I’ll then be “transported” to The Valley where Charlton host Man United.

After the match, I will begin my rain dance because on Sunday morning, my colleagues and I are going to the TreeTop Bridge @ MacRitchie. Must inform them all to do the rain dance also.

Hopefully the weather will be kind and we can have the hike.

After that in the evening, I’m gonna meet the fellowship because..HAHAHA..Liah is turning 25!!

Thank you for being a friend
Travelled down the road and back again
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant
I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need any time of the day or night
I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die
And float away
Into the night
The milky way
You'll hear me call
As we ascend
I'll say your name
Then once again
Thank you for being a friend
- Thank You For Being A Friend, Andrew Gold

Heh…that’s the Golden Girls’ theme, man.

Blanche, Dorothy, Rose & Sophia.

Hmmm…

Golden Girls, Liah? How apt, girlfriend! I’m Dorothy…the boring one who cant get a date for nuts and you’re the gregarious Blanche. Heheheh.

30 more minutes to home.
I’m dying of hunger and I want to watch that darn Chinese show.

P/s: Oh yeah..now that the wedding is off, I think I can afford the time and money for a mini retreat to celebrate Dear’s belated birthday. The wedding…if it’s on again, I’m sorry. I’m booked.

Funny Encounter of the Porn Kind

Toy Story celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Wow..it’s been that long, huh? I remember watching it with a “date” back when I was in Sec 3. Wait. How come I remember Liah being there too? Oh I remember…I didn’t want to watch it alone with him!

Mentioning Liah…I remember my first proper experience watching a porn show. It was at her house! Somehow the guy (whom we watched Toy Story with) and I ended up at Liah’s place one afternoon because we wanted to watch The Blue Lagoon (that stupid cult-like show starring Brooke Shields). Liah had that show and she would always tell me about its hype. so that guy and I were at her house wanting to watch it.

Blue Lagoon proved to be a boring watch for us. Then being the horny ah seng that he was, the guy took out a few VCDs of *gasp* Chinese porn movies…and we watched them! Liah muted the sound and we were all reading subtitles and ridiculing the fuck scenes. Okay, they weren’t exactly hardcore porn…but those soft-core type. And it’s a period-drama style.

Then Liah’s dad came home.
Busted?
Not really. Liah managed to switch off the TV and we managed to grab some magazines while giggling ourselves to death.

Thank God no one got horny. Phew!

All right.
“Erotic” nostalgia aside.

A good friend came to my place last night and we talked while eating the mother’s nasi lemak and watching gross Fear Factor. I found it all disturbing. Very disturbing. Did I say lovers are strange? Well, people who are in love ARE strange.

Anyway, leave him.
Leave him.
Leave him.
Leave him.

For every one pro, there are so many cons. And please, can you imagine having bad sex for the rest of your bloody life? Mak ampun…..

An affair to remember...

Tsk tsk..not that kind of affair.

Lauren and I decided to combine and organise our own birthday celebrations next January. We are thinking of a more glamorous do where we all can dress up. Actually we want a reason to wear the mounting party dresses we-have-but-no-occasion-to-wear-them-to.

Actually...it's going to be great. The idea itself is refreshing. We are going to come up with a theme and I hope the party people will follow. Dont worry..I wont give you a horror theme for a celebration @ S-11.

And since dressing up and dining can cost a bit...presents are not necessary. But if you guys insist, let's have a contest ..Best gift for under $5.

So once I am done with this stupid YG article, I am going to source for places where Lauren and I can have our birthday party. Why does it sound as if Lauren and i are a couple?? Then when Lauren comes back this Friday, we can meet up to discuss theme and send out invitation cards.

My uncle came over on Monday and while we were having dinner, he asked me about my career.

Uncle: Your dad said you didn’t want a government job.
Me: Aiyah…it’s not like that.
U: Why didn’t you join the police? You could have been an inspector by now.
M: No way! Anyway, I did try for some government jobs. They didn’t want me, what…
U: Your dad would so much like you to be in a government job. He said money good..and stable.
M: Aiyah…He would want all his kids to join him and be customs officer!
U: But government job IS stable and IS good money.
M: Come on…nowadays, government jobs are also on contract basis. It’s all the same.
U: But they have better benefit.
M: I don’t care about benefits. I’m just not interested!
U: Who cares about interest?

Who cares about interest?
I do.

Maybe, I would be in some govt big-ass job by now if my uni distinctions came from a local institution or the Ivy League’s. But no…those pathetic grades came from Edith Cowan University in lowly Perth. In fact, I think employers are more comfortable with the “infamous” Curtin and Monash degrees than ECU's.If those are Princeton’s, I’m sure the NTU “scholars” wouldn’t even stand a chance.

Looking around, I don’t know many people who are in the govt sector. Sharinah is in the Home Team…and she is miserable there. Who else? I know a few more and they are all in the Home Team. I don’t want to be in that team. I have enough of that stuffy blue uniform.

The only govt job I want to have right now is the Prime Minister’s post.

Even then, many of the ministers come from the private sector.

You know what…just leave me alone. You don’t even know me.

What’s November without the annual heartache?

The wedding is off. I’m glad you’ve decided to pull the plug. Strangely, there’s no “I told you so”, just empathy. Everything happens for a reason. This is the gift of Syawal.

People say it aint over till it’s over.
Well, what can I say? It is the end and it is so over.

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away
If we could take the time
To lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine

So if you want to love me
Then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
On their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
- November Rain, Guns N Roses

Masya Allah.
God is kind.

Am I more than you bargain for yet?

This Saturday, I am crashing Meiling’s studio photo shoot. She is taking her graduation photo and I am tagging along. Not only am I tagging, I’m bringing my own graduation robe so that we can have our “partner” grad shot together. So yesterday I took out the 1-year-old robe and tried it on. Ah…I look like Harry Potter.

I think next year, I HAVE to take the family photo shoot. Been graduated for 2 years and still no proper picture.

Why must I take that picture? Well I don’t know. Not sure if the mother wants to hang the picture in the living room (she needs the space for her flowers) but I just want to have one as a keepsake. After all, that was the point in buying the whole bloody regalia.

Oh well.

Watching last night’s Project Runway, I was hit by designs for next year’s baju kurungs. I know I know…it’s still early yada yada yada…but must sketch and tell the mother first lest she has more out-of-the world fashion for her kids to wear next year. The mother is like the Malay Vivienne Westwood…only quite not there yet.

She’s outrageous.

Hmmm…strange.
As you can see, I have nothing else to crap about. Strange. It must be a slow day.

I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died
With the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why
Are the seas still dry?
Don't blame this sleeping satellite

Did we fly to the moon too soon?
Did we squander the chance?
In the rush of the race
The reason we chase is lost in romance
And still we try
To justify the waste
For a taste of man's greatest adventure

Have we got what it takes to advance?
Have we peaked too soon?
If the world is so great
Then why does it scream under a blue moon?
We wonder why
If the earth's sacrificed
For the price of its greatest treasure

And when we shoot for the stars
What a giant step
Have we got what it takes
To carry the weight of this concept?
Or pass it by
Like a shot in the dark
Miss the mark with a sense of adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died
With the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why
Are the seas still dry?
Don't blame this sleeping satellite
- Sleeping Satellite, Tasmin Archer

If I were to ask God just one question…why were you His artwork?
I wonder why the seas agreed when I claimed you weren’t meant for me.
I wonder why the breezes clapped when I declared you a passing monsoon.
I wonder why the stars sparkled when I wished at my kitchen window.
I wonder why the flowers bloomed when I realised I was beautiful without you.
I wonder why the birds sang when I screamed “I’m born again.”

Goodbye Ritz...Hello pool?

Due to clashes of schedules and time zones, we are giving up the Ritz Carlton room next Sunday. Dont worry. We havent paid yet. That means, I will be free on Sunday noon.

What a pity. But I think it's the best choice. We'll aim Ritz soon again. Trust me.

I think i'll hit the swimming pool on that day. It has been a long time since i last made a splash @YCK. This whale really needs a swim...after all the junk she ate during this festive season.

Or ... I can go roller blading.
Or ... Anyone up for trekking to Treetop Bridge?

Why arent there any high walls in Singapore parks? I can then play tennis without having to worry if i have kakis to play it with.

sigh..
i am beginning to hate team games.

Weekend wrapped in baju kurung

Pity Liah was too bloated and sleepy and too lazy to take the picture. If not, I would have posted a picture of Noreen with her pink baju kurung top tucked into her kain (long skirt in baju kuring) and wearing an old ugly helmet. You wont see an air stewardess…but a 25-year-old retard. Hahahahahahaha.

Apa dah Gumbi???
I want BraveStarr!

Friday saw me leaving the office late with Dear. We then went to Liang Seah for a simple dinner where I had my delectable Teochew fish porridge. Then we went around Bugis Junction and to the bugis village. I forgot how happening that place could be, man. Will go there again when I’m feeling loaded. I need to stock up on tshirts. I hate wearing office clothes.

Then on my way home, I saw my favourite “Moses” being eliminated in Survivor. I’ll miss you, Bobby Jon.

Saturday was a tired riot. Woke up in a scrambling mad rush and met Meiling and her friends @ yio chu kang. We then took forever to Jurong .. to Kak Siti’s house. Kak Siti is ML’s colleague whom I’ve grown to know. She is very nice! We reached her place at around 1145hrs and were mad with hunger. Then YUMMM…came the food. The king prawns..the eggs in gravy…the “malay” salad…the red chickens…and the beef rendang. They were delicious as hell. I had 3 prawns…3 pieces of chicken..1 egg and 1 piece of beef. ML had A LOT!!! These Chinese people can really eat Malay food.

I don’t understand their fascination with rendang. Why almost all the beef-eating Chinese peeps I know love rendang?

After the lunch, Kak Siti brought a tray of cheesecakes. 2 kinds of cheesecakes – the normal one and the marshmallow one. Walao eh! I had 4 pieces! Of course you can imagine…all 6 of us were like beached whales in the living room.

Question: Why is it okay for some people to dress so shabbily when visiting other people? I mean..yeah…you are always in that attire but man…at least, make an effort, man. Put on something smart casual, at least. Not your sleeping tshirt and shorts. Plus… it’s always nice to cover yourself up when you are visiting a conservative family.

Maybe it’s just me. You wont see me travelling all the way to Jurong to go house-visiting wearing shorts.

What? Because her legs are nicer than mine? Puh-leez!

From Jurong, I went straight to Nani’s place to just chill while waiting for the rest of the moonies (sans Sha) to come. Imagine staying there from 1445hrs to 1930hrs! That’s almost 5 hours! After Jay and Jo finished their dinner, we then trooped off to Ismail’s house..eating and watching Everybody Loves Raymond (Season 1) at the same time. Next, we had an Amazing Race to my place. I had the (un)fortunate luck of sharing the cab with Ting, Nani and Susan. Hahahaha…even though we took a longer route, we were still the first to reach my lift lobby.

We reached my place around 2145hrs and I was very tired by then. Mariana dropped by around 2230hrs and I was so embarrassed to tell her that I didn’t have any food other than the cookies and stuff. Hope she didn’t mind. My cousins and uncle came by…making the house packed and hot like an oven.

The moonies left at 2330hrs…but not before staying at my void deck to take photos. And hamming it up as we went along. My relatives were still upstairs and thank God, they left about 15 minutes later. Then, I had to wash the dishes and sweep the living room. Was I pooped? You bet your sweet ass! I fell asleep in the dying minutes of the England versus Argentina match. Didn’t get to see how hobbity owen saved the Svengers.

Sunday saw me dragging my ass up for the final stretch…the home run. Was supposed to meet Wanyi and Yiling @ yishun at 1045hrs but those two clowns were extremely late and we reached Firman’s house at noon. I was the only one wearing the baju kurung and was sweltering under the afternoon heat. But then again, I was the only Malay girl around and well..it’s Hari Raya. After lunch at Fifi’s, we went to Lorong Ah Soo to Encik Zainuri’s house. He is the camp caretaker at Pulau Ubin. Yiling, Wanyi and I took a ride from Shadiq and Ash. Fifi got a ride on Din’s bike.

After Lorong Ah Soo, we went to Din’s place back in Ang Mo Kio. Benson then joined us. I couldn’t stay long or continue with the rest. I bade adieu and made my way to noreen’s place, which was near Din’s house.

At her place, Weiling, Clara and I watched SEPET, this sweet Malaysian story (in Malay/Cantonese/English). We were hooked, man!

Originally uploaded by yasminthestoryteller:

"In her second film, Yasmin Ahmad tells a story of interracial teenage love, between Chinese Jason Lee Seow Loong, a peddler of pirated videos, and Orked, a Malay schoolgirl who likes Hong Kong movies.

"Sepet" is Malay for "single eyelid", but pejoratively, it means "slit eyes." From this provocative title, the film penetrates stereotypes of race and narrative, to explore the complexities of a multiracial society that has institutionalized the superiority of the Malay race.

The film's opening moves from Sam Hui's yearning Cantopop song to Jason reading Indian poet Tagore's work in Chinese translation to his Peranakan (mixed Malay-Chinese descendant) mother, concisely framing the multi-Asian strands of Malaysian society and the film -- tradition and modernity, the Malay-Chinese-Indian pyramid, the purity and impurity of culture -- all set within a classic maternal metaphor.

In this context, Ahmad's gentle and engaging tale of doomed love assumes both political and personal dimensions. In its own subtle way, it stands as a signal work, both of the new Malaysian independent cinema, and as a heartfelt plea for tolerance." - Roger Garcia”

The movie was so sweet, funny and simple…and yet, controversial. I want my own Tagore-spouting Lee Seow Loong! Hmmm… This is definitely one DVD I have to keep. Shit. I have to keep a list.

Urgh.

Liah came around six plus and we soon rushed to her house. Then, it was mine…where we all had spaghetti with hot meatball sauce. I was on fire! Liah, Noreen and I were all in baju kurung and we were all feeling sticky and sweaty. It took 4 fans to cool all of us down. Noreen and I took off our long skirt and were just clad in our baju kurung top. Yeah..a bit disgusting lah…but my dad was sleeping in the room and there was no one else.

After the spaghetti, I made yucky cappuccino for the girls and all were just spacing out in my living room. I was already damn tired, hot and bothered. At about 2230hrs, they all left and I was holding a broom…sweeping my weekend out of the door.

My Hari Raya seems inching to an end.

Turn your lights down low

If nothing means anything to me, why should someone be something to me?

If you don’t know, I wont know.

Okay.
My brain is so somewhere-out-there.

It’s the perfect day to go gym because I have absolutely no plans tonight and I don’t really want to be home on a Friday night. But, stupid membership doesn’t allow me to sweat it out on a Friday. A movie costs a bomb today. Think I’ll go for a walk at Bishan, perhaps. Or Toa Payoh. Or Bugis.

Or, I can go home and admire (and clap-bang-kiss) my new washing machine. Yay, no more back-breaking “not-sure-if-it-is-clean-already” laundry washing!

Pathetic?
No, lah…

But you cant stop nothing
If you got no control
Of the thoughts in your mind
That you kept in, you know
You dont know nothing
But you dont need to know
The wisdoms in the trees
Not the glass windows
You cant stop wishing
If you dont let go
But things that you find
And you lose, and you know
You keep on rolling
Put the moment on hold
The frames too bright
So put the blinds down low

I need this
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I cant stop now
(Breakdown, Jack Johnson)

Spent my afternoon checking bloody films upstairs. Sat beside Dear and she had to play Backstreet Boys. Haha..That got me singing, wriggling and feeling slightly nostalgic. We were showing each other the BSB dance steps..especially that (in)famous Dracula/vampire dance step in ‘Everybody’.

Hehehe.

Last night at Sha’s was hilarious. There were Lauren, Mail, Ting and I from the Moonies. We also had Mariana and Hanie joining us. Again, the dragon jokes are classic!

The roti kirai was yummy as always. It helped that we were all stark raving hungry. Most of us ate at least 3(!) pieces and we “cekik” almost all her fried chickens. Pity no one brought camera. Well, it’s a blessing actually. No one could see how bloated and lethargic we were after dinner. Like beached whales.

We are attacking Nani’s and Ismail’s tomorrow. Maybe, Ida too (not sure about this). Oh yeah…my house in the evening. I am going to Kak Siti’s house with Meiling in the morning. Hope the weather will be kind. Wearing baju kurung in a fucking humid/sticky weather is quite a bitch.

Anyway…

Yeah. What can I say? I am that kind of person. I’ll bitch..and bitch..and bitch..and bitch…but deep down, I never really hate anyone. Some people cannot forgive. Some people cannot forget. Believe me, I actually can do both. Of course it depends if I want to or not.

I don’t blame anyone for disbelieving my concept. But hey, that’s how I live. I let it out and nothing will be left out of it.

Still,

I have my stories. I hate keeping them to myself because if they don’t come out, then I cannot forget. Unfortunately, I cannot let them go. This, my friends, is a cross I have to bear. However, I am very glad there is a God.

And karma.

There's nowhere to run
I have no place to go
Surrender my heart, body and soul
How can it be you're asking me
To feel the things you never show

You are missing in my heart
Tell me why I can't be there where you are
Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with
Tell me why I can't be there where you are
There's something missing in my heart
- Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely, Backstreet Boys

Yeah, it’s missing for now.
Some day, I’ll find the piece.

Damn.
I feel like McDonalds.

Have a good trippy weekend.

The threat of rain will always be here with you

La la la.

what do you think is the easiest method to die?
stabbing yourself in the heart many many times.

what is the hardest and most painful way to die?
having a broken heart

when you die, where do you think you'll go and what will you look like?
Purgatory, perhaps? What will I look like? Erm..burnt by the wrath of hell.

what will you do if you lose everything one day?
find my everything

have you ever thought of how you’ll die?
Old age, man…old age.

what do you think the earth will become 180 years from now?
it’s just a planet of water…humans will migrate somewhere else.

what will you do (and think) if you turn into the opposite sex one morning?
scratch my balls and think, “damn, I’m hairy!”

if cooked dung, without seasoning, is the only food left in the world, would you eat it?
Oh well…at least it’s cooked. So yeah…

would you rather have raw maggots for breakfast for the rest of your live, or cow dung for supper for the rest of your live?
Gimme maggots for breakfast. I don’t want my mouth to reek of shit when I *ahem* kiss anyone goodnight.

how do you think the Earth will be "destroyed" one day?
Have you not seen Armageddon? War Of The Worlds? The Day After Tomorrow? It’s either by aliens or by a horrific natural disaster. I’ll go with the natural calamity.

Ridiculous answers to ridiculous questions…but hah I had an enjoyable time thinking about them. A little distraction from work there.

An ex-colleague is in the office right now. He is distributing Christmas presents! My God…what’s wrong with people nowadays? Thank you for the gift, by the way. Anyway, thank you Ah Beng. He gave me cute Kelly dolls. Ooh I love dolls!

The only dolls I don’t like are the cabbage patch kids. Bleurgh.

I swear they are evil.

You Are Changing Leaves

Pretty, but soon dead.

Am not pretty…just dead.

Went to my cousin’s house yesterday after work for a bit of Hari Raya visiting. The mother and the sister were already there waiting for me. It was nice to go to Kak Nana’s house. She’s always funny and so accommodating. Listening to her reminiscing about the good ‘ol kampong days was interesting.

I love the village…and I want a country life.

The mother said they all used to live in an ultra huge kampong house built by my Javanese carpenter gramps. The house had at least 3 kitchens to cater to 3 different sub-families. The living is huge and long (errrr..) and the bathroom is the size of a kitchen. Goodness. That IS gargantuan.

I stayed in a kampong before and I loved it. If I ever manage to secure a plot of land, maybe I’ll built a highly stylised kampong house.

By the way, do you realise that almost every Malay kampong house has a verandah (or amben) at the front door? It’s because the Malays / Indonesians believe that you should sit there for a while before going in (when coming home from work, market, etc) so that whatever evil spirits that are on you will not get into the house. Cool!

City dweller, successful fella
Thought to himself
Oops I’ve got a lot of money
I’m caught in a rat race terminally
I’m a professional cynic
But my heart’s not in it
I’m paying the price of living life at the limit
Caught up in the century’s anxiety
It preys on him, he’s getting thin

Now he lives in a house
A very big house in the country
Watching afternoon repeats
And the food he eats in the country
He takes all manner of pills
And piles up analyst bills in the country
It’s like an animal farm,
Lots of rural charm in the country
- Country House, Blur

Heh.
I’m a country girl.
So, can I get a…

brought to you by Quizilla

Lies..all lies.
I’m more like Havaianas…or Phua Chu Kang’s yellow boots.

It has been a routine every night. Wash clothes and hang them out to dry. The importance of the washing machine is unchallenged. It’s a killer washing my trackies. They are so heavy and somehow take a longer time for me to totally rinse out the detergent in them. I have been sleeping in the same shorts for 4 days already. I’m afraid I will turn into those people who will just wear dirty laundry.

Shite.

I am wearing baju kurung right now. Why? We are going Sha’s house tonight. I know..I don’t have to wear but aiyah, Hari Raya is the only time I’m in the mood to wear baju kurung. So let’s all just let me be. Heh.

The colleagues cant make it to my house tomorrow. Well, there’s still time. Slightly more than 2 weeks left still. So no hurry, yeah…that means, tomorrow night, I am free. Hooray! I can sleep early because I’m gonna have full-on weekend.

I’ll have visiting on Saturday noon with ML to Kak Siti’s house. Then in the afternoon I’m meeting the Moonies again for Round 2 of Hari Raya gathering. Then on Sunday, it’s the fellowship Hari Raya gathering.

Actually I am looking forward to next week.
Ritz Carlton, yeah!

Oh yesterday, Dear came up with a conclusion for me.
Mona likes skater boys.
Damn.
That is true.

Tonight I'm wound tighter than a watchspring
Tonight you owe my patience quite a debt
Tonight we're not gonna solve anything
I might say something that we both regret

And now the pressures on, the heat is rising
The time has come to stop apologising
'Cos when the skies are clear
The threat of rain is always here with you

Tonight the geese are flying
And everything you say is a call to arms
Tonight there's something in the air
Don't come too close and you'll come to no harm

And now the pressure's on the heat is rising
The time has come to stop apologising
With all that’s gone before
My motive's never felt so pure
And now my heart's beset
With 28 carat gold regrets
And when the skies go clear
The threat of rain is always here with you
