What the world needs now

I spotted this window display on my route to seek dinner last night. A colleague then pointed this...which had been up for a week, he said. I was dumbstruck. How distatesful, insensitive and inappropriate.

The shop has been there for quite some time but it has since been refurbished. This is AFTER the refurbishment. Before that, it was still mysterious cum (hah) classy looking. Now, it's just outwardly crass. It gives sex a freaking bad name, man.

Call me a prude but a group of young Malay boys were standing outside and ogling at the window display. There were many kids walking with their parents there, locals and tourists alike. Just what kind of message is that? Come on. Even sex shops in Aussie, NYC and even red-light district Geylang arent that tacky and distasteful.

There's a mosque at the back of the building and a freaking cathedral across the road for God's sake.

And my school is just a few metres away.

A freaking school!!!

One headlight

Ed, think Nietzsche....

"(Friedrich) Nietzsche sees the slave-morality as a source of the nihilism that has overtaken Europe. In Nietzsche's eyes, modern Europe, and its Christianity, exists in a hypocritical state due to a tension between master and slave morality, both values contradictorily determining, to varying degrees, the values of most Europeans (who are "motley").

Nietzsche calls for exceptional people to no longer be ashamed of their uniqueness in the face of a supposed morality-for-all, which Nietzsche deems to be harmful to the flourishing of exceptional people. However, Nietzsche cautions that morality, per se, is not bad; it is good for the masses, and should be left to them. Exceptional people, on the other hand, should follow their own "inner law."

A favorite motto of Nietzsche, taken from Pindar, reads: "Become what you are" (cf. to Kierkegaard's assertion, in Vol. 2 of Either/or, that in aesthetics you become what you become, whereas in ethics you are what you are)."

... whom eventually suffered manic insanity and died a demeaning death.

###

Bad girl

The Cold War between The Gulag (new name, same person) and I have re-emerged again. This time round, I saw it coming and I am much more prepared. I wasnt angry when it erupted maybe deep down I knew I had a part to play too.

So, this is it then.
Pre-liberation, is that you?

I am a leader. If you dont let me lead, I'll withdraw and wither away. Right now, I have entered the third stage - wither. Think it's time.

Poprocks and coke

The sister in law is estimated to give birth this end of the year. The point here is...the brother (maybe financially or whatsoever) cannot go to the Green Day concert. He wanted to catch NUFAN and MXPX in KL also but I think he is just cancelling everything out.

But...but we grew up with Green Day!
It's almost like watching Mat Yoyo!

Maybe I should get him the Green Day ticket...as a congratulatory (fatherhood) token and an extremely early birthday present. Crap. I think I have to start digging holes for money. You see, my intention is here but financially, I am not. I think I'll figure a way out. But one thing's for sure...I cannot afford to get one for the sister-in-law.

Forget green grass, I think I'll have to eat green toxic air soon.

###

Touch my body

By the way, did I tell you that I am one of the judges for TooMuchCrap's Got Talent?

Hahahahahahahahahah*cough*hahahha!

The first audition was on Monday and we had one Korean boy who sang Sisqo's Incomplete. I wanted to hold my laughter and pee so much because he reminded me of the guy who sang 'Tuts My Barreh'.

One more round today and I must remember to empty my bladder (hell, bowels too maybe) before I sit in.

###

Bulletproof

In my weak attempt to save money for Mio TV, HK, Hari Raya Haji, other people's weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, celebratory occasions (no malice intended seriously), Green Day concert, 30th birthday and other things which havent cropped up (yet), I am cutting back on buying food and is resorting to bringing food found in the house to work.

The sad thing is, the house is full of nonsensical food. So, I am just stuffing my face with cookies, chocolates and swiss roll...hoping they can fully satisfy. Fatter..fattest, man!

Alas, the chocolate doesnt satisfy what a simple bowl of noodle from Sakura downstairs can.

Alaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!

P/S: I love chocs and all...but man, a person can only consume so much before she gets 'jelak', sick or diabetes.

###

Get me bodied

There's a Wing Tai sale happening at its outlets today and I did plan to go. However, now that Green Day are coming for a concert, I think I have to curb the shopping.

Okay.

That's all the strength I can muster now. I've been tired.

###

Anyone else but you

Am still reeling with the Green Day euphoria and anxiety. I thought that it's already the 15th and was scouring the SISTIC website for ticketing details, to no avail of course. Haiyah.

Anyway...

Went to catch PAPER HEART just now and I abso-effing-lutely love it. Charlyne Yi may seem dimwitted or retarded or very high at times but I find that endearing sometimes. Her awkwardness really strikes a chord and I can really relate with her...retardation and all.

I am just glad there's no love scene between Michael Cera and Charlyne (they were once rumoured to be dating). I could have broken in tears probably hahahahahahaha. Dammit. I have a crush oh Michael Cera...who is 8 years younger than me!

###

Welcome to paradise

(I'm gonna write in CAPS!)

OH MY FREAKING GOD!!! BILLIE JOE, MIKE DIRNT AND TRE COOL ARE COMING NEXT JANUARY FOR A CONCERT! GREEN DAY IS COMING, PEOPLE.

GREEN DAY IS FREAKING COMING!!!!!

WILL YOU BE THERE?
I WILL BE THERE.
WILL YOU BE AN (AMERICAN) IDIOT?
DOOKIE?
NIMROD?

ARGH!!!!!!!!

P/S: Troubled times...you know I cannot lie. I'm off the wagon and I'm hitching a ride!

Coming home now

Though I was never a fan of Stephen Gately during my Boyzone-loving days (it's Ronan for me), it is still sad to have someone dying at a young age.

Gately was found dead today in Spain and well..another one this year.

In his honour, let's go down the memory lane and I'll share with you my Top 3 Boyzone favourite hits. These songs, some time back then, were very much loved by yours truly :)

1. All That I Need (..oh good times)

2. I Love The Way You Love (sweeeeet :) )

3. Key To My Life

May God bless you, Stephen Gately.

Halo walking on sunshine

Got some stuff to voice out but it will take too much energy. Besides, being the poorest shooter in yesterday's 0.38 shooting competition depresses the shit out of me. Maybe things will pick up soon.

In the mean time, enjoy the following from GLEE. Think I will pick up this show soon.

But right now, it's time to anatomise.

Good week ahead, ya'll.

P/S: (500) Days of Summer was quite a letdown. Yes, I was tired but I am sure the film did intensify my yawning. But no..it's not as bad as Lemony Snickett. But bad, nevertheless.

Men who marry clever women live longer
Men who marry clever women are more likely to live longer, according to a study.

Published: 1:26PM BST 05 Oct 2009

A study on 1.5 million people found a woman's level of education was more important than a man's when it came to the chance of him living a long life.

The authors suggested that better educated women may be more aware of healthy diets and medical treatments, thereby influencing their partner's lifespan.

''Women traditionally take more responsibility for the home than men do, and, as a consequence, women's education might be more important for the family lifestyle - for example, in terms of food habits - than men's education.

''If highly educated women more easily understand the plethora of advice about healthy lifestyles, women's education could have a substantial influence on the health and mortality of the partner.

"Women with higher education may in addition (be able to) receive better medical treatment, which may also be true for men - and for partners of highly educated women."

The research, from experts at Stockholm University, examined data from the 1990 Swedish Census on 1.5 million people aged 30 to 59 who were in employment.

Information on causes of death, including from cancer and circulatory diseases like heart disease and stroke, was then examined for the following 13-year period.

The study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, found that while women's education was an important factor in the longevity of a couple, it was the man's income, and not education, that was important.

The authours found that a man's income influenced death rates for both sexes "presumably since men stand for the major part of the family income and thus the material standard of the family." (The Telegraph UK)

-------------------------------------

Still, I doubt many men would want to live long anyway.

Right?

Long distance love affair

My phone is sick and is at the service centre. I dont know when I will get it back. Even when it is fine, the service staff will have no way of calling me because I dont have a spare phone. Right now I am regretting sending my phone to the centre. My warranty has ended and (1) I had to pay $25 servicing fee and (2) I have to pay around $80-100 for the repair. Like I said, I am regretting my act because my phone could do everything except retrieve missed calls. Oh, the home screen icons have gone missing and stuff. But I could still make calls, receive 'live' calls, send/receive messages, go online, take pics and vids and play music.

Crap.

Stupid.

Desolation row

Bleurgh.

Chocolate truffles are all gone and all I have now is an empty box and a horrible feeling in my throat and stomach.

Look like shit
Taste like heaven
Feel like crap
Where is the happy-feel-good chemical?

Freak on a leash

Am on a bloody full shift today (0900 - 2200hrs), thanks to the assholic minds of some people. Best thing is, my class is only at night. Am wasting energy and money...spending on breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Went to Vivo during lunchtime to exchange a dress I bought on Monday. Stopped at Candy Empire to get something for Ruth for it's her 27th birthday today. Got a small box of choc truffles for lunch+tea time also. Am eating them now. They look like shit but they taste so good. Moral of the story: Don't judge shit before tasting it, okay?

Before shit hits the fan. taste it first.

I can sing a rainbow

Last one before I try to catch a 3-hr nap.

Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow too

Listen with your eyes
Listen with your ears
And sing everything you see

I can sing a rainbow
Sing a rainbow
Sing along with me
(Delta Goodrem)

A thousand times goodnight, sweet dreamers.

P/S: I think it's time to go back.

Mad / Miss Independent

I am back from Batam and well..it's already 0345hrs and obviously I am still up. Think I slept too much there. But it's all good. I wish I can extend one more day and sleep again though. Or maybe take a dip in the gorgeous pool.

On a side note, no can make you mad unless you allow it to be.

Maybe, I am not an angry person anymore.

P/S: My mobile phone has gone crazy eversince it went flat on Wednesday. I cant retrieve all the 'missed' calls and worse, my Batam pictures got deleted. Sad.

Welcome to paradise

I am nursing a major major earth-shattering headache :(

Last Thursday night, JLo, A-Go-Go and I went singing and it turned out more like an aerobics session because we mostly ended up dancing or jumping up and down screaming like banshees. I got home around 2300hrs, caught America's Next Top Model and then I concussed till Friday noon, before rushing to work.

Friday...batshit crazy day in the office and before I knew it, it was time for my night film class. Screened a bizarre Peter Greenaway indie flick - The Draughtsman's Contract - which got me scratching my head in weird fascination. After that, JLo, A-Go-Go and I made our way to OBar around 2330hrs where we met CY2, Z (her friend) and Va-Va-Voom.

All hell broke loose after that and yeah...leave it at that cause everything became a blur soon after.

At 0300hrs, all of us slowly (but surely!) made our way to Chine One at Clarke Quay and continued our debauchery. Again, by this time, I was already begging for mercy..mercy..mercy. Finally bade everyone farewell at almost 0500hrs.

Now...here I am at work. Fell asleep while packing for my Batam trip later and woke up around 0815hrs. Did some 5-minute mad packing and bolted the door to the train station. Heading to Batam with  Nani later at 1500hrs and we'll be there for 3 days, staying at Holiday Inn. Like I mentioned before...I need me some sleep.

Okay...back to work.

P/S: Knees are stiff as hell!

Copa la vida

This morning, as I dashed from the kitchen to the gate, I managed to pick out some news headlines flashing on Channel News Asia. It read that from August 2010, SingTel will have the rights to broadcast EPL matches, replacing Starhub.

Words cannot describe how upset I am.

Mio shows suck and there is no Star World there. Did I mention how upset I am?

Very very much.

Ayo technology

We are planning to develop a $15k TV/film studio. I didnt know we have that kind of money.

Honestly, it is unnecessary. The industry has gone 'viral' and 'indie' and plus, apart from Film Production, Film Studies, Intro to Screen Theories and European Cinema Studies, none other modules specifically require the students to deal with all these equipment. And if they have to, magic can still be done with a humble digicam.

What's the use of having mega (and not necessarily 'beta' ..haha, get it? Get it?) junk if we dont know how to use it, if it's just for the sake of sizing up with our competitors, if it's just...for show? Look, what we need are probably 3 decent handheld digicams, tripods, microphones, redheads (lights, not babes). We definitely dont need green screen, roll diffuser etc. What I emphasise are editing suites/software. They rather buy many equipment than to invest in a good, reputable editing software and editing terminals.

Boss, we are not offering highly technical subjects. We are not SAE or FSV. I know the reason why you want to have these things is just so that you can use them to make corporate videos and Mass Comm lecturers and students will become the scapegoats...scapepigs...scapeducks.

Maybe I am just a techno-phobe.

###

Like a child

It has been a bizarre week...one filled with slight confusion.

I've gotten my schedule all effed-up since last Friday and things have been going downhill. I took my roster for granted and seriously messed my routine. But to my defence, what's the point of having a roster if changes are made without explaining to me? Why should we print our roster when things change...things which suppose to be routine?

Why is it that I am always the scapegoat for some other lecturers who were not free to conduct their classes on their supposed time and instead chose to reschedule their classes on my time, when the students were supposed to be with me? Why were they given the priorities? Because they're part-timers and are juggling two jobs, and it's the school's privilege to have them wanting to impart their skills?

Then what about me?

What ABOUT you, Ed?

P/S: ALWAYS the freaking step-child. Always. Dammit.

###

Happy together

As you can see it's 0500hrs and I am still awake. After watching the following video (dont ask me how I ended watching this...definitely bizarre), I am not sure if I am traumatised or fascinated.

Okay, I think I shall take a pillow and smother myself cause I cannot look at the terrapin in the kitchen in an innocent light anymore. Hahahahaha.

Sweet child of mine

This Thursday, some friends and I are going to hit the karaoke joint to commemorate Children's Day. Unlike tomorrow's Singapore Idol which will have the contestants singing songs from their birth years (and boy are they freaking young!!#$@#), we are going to commemorate the day by having the theme 'Songs When We Were Kids'. So expect Brit New Wave (oh god, Erasure!), boybands (New Kids On The Block), and many other 80s and 90s crap. I am going to start a list tonight.

Sounds exciting.

P/S: Am going to Batam this weekend with Nani. And as usual, I am planning to sleep.

I am running here and there and all over the place. In the mean time, enjoy this one. Aidan Davies rocks.

Straight through the heart

It's the time of the academic season which I totally hate - the marking season. It's enough to make me doubt my role in this industry, doubt my profession and doubt my faith in TooMuchCrap. Mostly the latter for being a tyrant, hiding behind a not-so-good disguise of customer-friendliness.

Been tired out of my wits at work and when I am at home, I am hanging on to whatever time I've got and trying not to waste it by sleeping. Consequently...as we know it...I'll get more tired. Peachy.

Had a mini SMS showdown with Mother Mary this afternoon over my roster. Mea culpa, I guess cause Mother Mary is never at fault. Never. *snigger* Yeah she is never at fault and I am so underweight. Pooh.

If anyone has a job opportunity, please rope me in. As much as I love teaching, I cannot stand being unhappy anymore. Life is too short to work for stupid people...letting them reap the benefits while I continue slogging as the underdog with lack of sleep.

As Idaho and I were whining to each other over our damn late dinner, I felt an awful sensation. It almost felt like stroke. It was funny actually. As we were queueing at the ATM machine, there was Idaho...stamping her feet like an angry child as she related her episode with Mother Mary. She was very tired and pissed off. I was trying to curb my anger and disgust listening to her story when suddenly, for a few seconds, my left side went a bit numb. Just for a while though. Oh well.

Argh. I hate this person.
I've never disliked someone so much.
If I die before her, I'll haunt her.
By your window, every other night.

Woo-sah.

Okay...need to shower and then, continue with my marking. Chances are...not sleeping tonight cause I need to be at work in the morning.

Later.

P/S: City Hall is bloody noisy. The vibrations of the bloody F1 cars can be felt at work.

P/P/S: FAME was a disappointment. Give me Irene Cara anytime!

You're so great

I love me some nerdy boys and none rocked my socks off like Graham did, top with his specs and ultra fragile indie voice.

Sad, drunk, and poorly
Sleeping really late
Sad, drunk, and poorly
Not feeling so great
Wandering lost in a town full of frowns
Sad, drunk, and poorly
Dogs digging up the ground

And I feel the light
In the night and in the day
And I feel the light
When the sky's just mud and grey
And I feel the light
When you tell me it's OK
Cos you're so great, and I love you

DT and coffee
Helps to start the day
Tea tea and coffee
Shaking all the way
City's alive and, surprise, so am I
Tea, tea and coffee
Get no sleep today

And I feel the light
In the night and in the day
And I feel the light
When the sky's just mud and grey
And I feel the light
When you tell me it's OK
Cos you're so great, and I love you

P/S: Why must most men go metrosexual? We need the cool nerds.

Suasana Hari Raya

The 'takbir' has been launched, indicating that Ramadhan is over and the month of Syawal is here. Syawal (also known as the month of Hari Raya Eid-ul-fitri) brings jubilance as Muslims celebrate their victory (metaphorically, the battle against the whims and superficial fancies of the material world). It's a time when we start everything afresh, on a clean slate...with hope that God acknowledges our deeds and prayers.

It was an uber dusty day for me as I cleaned my bedroom. The floor, thick with dust, has all been swept and mopped. Some 'junk memorabilia' have been discarded because I really dont have space. No space for much nostalgia in the house, sadly. However, I have a good memory so...everything has been converted into 'soft copies' and have been kept in my heart and brain.

Ahem ahem.

All right I need to change my bedsheet and pillow cases soon. I also need to eat. I broke fast with a bit of nutella and milk cause the mother hasnt done with cooking.

So, hereby, I wish all my Muslim friends and readers a hearty Selamat Hari Raya minal aidil wal fa izin. Hope it will be a great and joyous affair to all, basking in the love and surrounded by your loved ones. Do forgive me if I had offended for I am only human. Maaf zahir batin, from the bottom of my heart.

Sedia ke garisan..
On your mark...
Get set...
Go ketupat!!

P/S: Hari Raya is not our new year!

P/P/S: I managed to watch INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS after my cleaning mission and before breaking fast. Am still not a Tarantino fan and I am only watching because of a certain William Bradley Pitt :)

O holy night

I just want to say that I am bloody upset cause tonight, I miss the opportunity to participate in the holy night of Ramadhan a.k.a the Lailatul Qadar.

I have been exceptionally good this fasting month (I try). I put in great effort this time round, swear to God. I even got into the Ramadhan mood by fasting 2 weeks ahead...to get into the spirit of it. But ah...when it matters most, I cannot pray.

Never mind. I prayed for God to give me health. At least I know now that my fallopian tubes, uterus and etc are all working. Positive thinking, Ed. Positive thinking.

If tonight is not the night, I hope I will have a go-ahead on Friday night, the 29th of Ramadhan. I really want this night, dear God.

---------------------------------------------------

When should one expect it to come?

First, the absolute majority of Islamic scholars said that Lailatul-Qadr comes every year, precisely in the month of Ramadan.

Second, only Allah the Most High[13] knows beforehand which night of Ramadan is the Night of Power.

In the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (may Allah greet and bless him) there is a great number of hadith which indicate probable time limits for finding this blessed night. Here are some of them:

“Seek the Night of Power [praying, performing Night Prayers and doing noble deeds] during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan”;[14]

“Look for the Night of Power on an odd-numbered night during the last ten days of the month Ramadan”;[15]

“He, who will look for the Night of Power, should look for it during the last seven days”;[16]

“The Night of Power is the night of the 27th day”;[17]

“The Night of Power is the night of the 24th day”;[18]

“The Night of Power is the night either of the 27th or of the 29th day. In this night the number of Angels [, who will descend to earth] will be greater than pebbles [on the whole planet]”.[19]

Imam Ibn Hajjar commenting on theof the chapter [from the hadith collection of Imam al-Bukhari] in which the great Muhadith mentions several hadith from those adduced above, made a useful observation: “Suchfor this chapter[20] somehow indicates the fact that Lailatul-Qadr is to be sought in Ramadan, on the last ten days and precisely on the odd-numbered days out of them”.[21]

A considerable number of Islamic scholars pointed at the night of the 27th day of Ramadan saying that this is the most probable time, although it is not for certain. Very often various festive events both at the national and local level, which are timed to this great Night, take place exactly on the 27th day[22] of the month of Ramadan.[23]

Of course for those, who don’t want to miss this great night, it would be most fore-sighted to pay special attention to each night of the last ten nights of Ramadan. It would be good, relying on Allah’s mercy, at least to perform an additional prayer, then invoke Allah, the Creator of the worlds, with a Du’a and perform at least one, though not necessarily very significant, but noble deed in the name of God the Most High. Even if a night has not been the Night of Power, our prayers, with the mercy of the Creator, will be heard and accepted, for they were read at night, moreover, in one of the nights of the blessed month of Ramadan.

What are its signs?

- This night possesses an extraordinary shine and brightness of its own.

- Taking into account local climate the weather in that night won’t be either cold or warm, i.e. the night temperature will be average for this climate, region and season.

- This night will be calm, clear and dry.

- Stars do not fall in that night.

- The next morning after this night the sun will be bright, brilliant and encarnadine (light-red). Its shine will be tender, not blinding just like the full moon in the clear night.[24]

---------------------------------------------------

Amazing right?

Purple haze

The bat-shit crazy marking period is here and I am drowning in a sea of assignments... assignments to be marked, moderated and created. On top of that, I have to concurrently produce a textbook. To add to the wonderful equation, my 4 uni classes are still running.

There will be Culture + Power (political bullcrap as always) class tonight and right now, I am staring at the textbook, hoping that my memory can be revived. I have taught this subject early last year and for the love of me...I cannot remember tonight's chapter.

Sometimes I ask myself again and again.
Why am I in this line?

P/S: I got my Hari Raya top. I am quite happy with it except in the picture...it looks pink but when I hold it, it looks purple. ARGH! I have 2 sets of purple clothes for Hari Raya. BARNEY to the max!

Bitter heart

Just a quick shoutout to my Buckwheat...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Oh, for those who missed watching Beyonce's, Lady Gaga's and Pink's performances on the recent MTV VMAs, I have uploaded new clips few entries below. Go see.

That's all!

P/S: Damn you Starhub and Mio. But yay, we won!

Girl you're so (not!) together

Am feeling quite bushed.

Last night (or rather this morning), I was up till 0430hrs cause I was digging my wardrobe for old Hari Raya clothes. On top of that, I was, as usual, arranging the clothes in the closet. I have at least 5 pairs of old ones and I think that's a good find. I bought one pair this year (online) and tomorrow, I am going to collect one top from an online seller and I hope it fits. Now I have about 7 sets of clothes and the best thing is...I doubt I will be using all of them during the festive season anyway. Bleah.

Oh, I also didnt buy new Hari Raya shoes and bags this year. Figured my Prada handbag (real, hor...) and Charles and Keith clutch I got last year can still be used. In fact I havent been using them eversince last year. Ditto to my killer heels I got last year. Yeah, killer cause they killed my feet.

I got my bedsheets in Penang last May and I bought a carpet in Kashmir last December ...so, yeah, settled. I made honey cornflakes over the weekend and am contemplating to do strawberry biscuits tonight with the strawberry jam I got from Cameron Highlands last June. Suddenly am feeling so domesticated. But ah...this is just pure idle chatter talking (cause I rather daydream than to do stupid textbook). Nothing might just come out of it.

Anyway, with all the money I didnt spend (notice I didnt say "with all the money I saved"), you think I am living it up and filling the coffer. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...I wish.

Back to work.

###

Hallelujah day

I am getting so paranoid. I have read (a case of having pseudo free time and staunch procrastination) that many innocent looking things contain so much chemical. Worst, those chemicals (like E471, E472, all sound like Nokia mobile phones to me!) can contain animal fats and it is no secret that pig fat is always preferred because it is cheap. At least we know what goes on in wine, spirits and beer ... but in a bread? In a Yeo Hiap Seng soya bean drink? In an ice cream we bought at our favourite (and friendly) mama shop?

(by the way, the following pictures are just used as examples)

I mean there is no proof that piggy elements are used even though a product is made in China. Those chemicals can be plant-based also but it's not mentioned on the pack of drinks we have in our kitchens for Hari Raya. And seriously, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Now I know why families in the olden days just served tea and home-made keropoks to guests. When they feel adventurous, they will serve sirap ros which is made of rose essence, sugar, pandan leaves and colouring (hopefully safe ones).

If they feel more adventurous, they add diabetes-inducing condensed milk to their rose syrup and voila, bandung (or 'banned dung')!

Little did they know that when invited Fanta and Yeo Hiap Seng into their homes, they were also bringing doubt into their lives.

Wah wah wah.
Like I am fit to talk about halal-ism.

But my point is ... do you think your food is safe? Check what you eat/drink first before you check on what others are consuming, okay? When in doubt, cook yourself or go to Komala's.

As for me, when I grow up, I think I want to be a farmer in Australia.

Free cheese for everybody!

Pulanglah :(

Boleh pengsan.

I just got home in time to catch the last 5 minutes of the Malay drama 'Pinggiran Ramadan' on Suria and...wahlao eh, 5 minutes were enough to shred me to pieces. Looking at Sani Hussin and Fauzie Laily cry like babies was...wow, emotional.

Excuse me while I wipe away my 5-minute tears.

###

Syukur

I want to thank you, God, for answering my prayers. No matter how small the Ramadhan miracle was, it just soothes me to know that you havent forgotten about me, just like how I haven't died on you (figuratively, obviously) yet.

My wish you granted and my self-inflicted burden you relieved. There's no other way than to sing you a million praises and go further in your course. But, like you had told me, go one step at a time.

Thank you for the help.
Now...how about the 50 wishes?

Kidding :)

It's like that / Old skool

Am having some sporadic intense 'Aunt Irma' cramps. This must be one of those impactful sessions. Have been physically 'off' and freaking tired for the past few days.

Last night was bizarre. I was wearing my Man U jersey, watching the Spurs-Man U match and ..haha...making honey cornflakes cookies at the same time. Was running in and out of the kitchen...eyes glued to the TV...sticky fingers and all.

As for the match, wow..the first goal at the first minute by Defoe sure caught everyone off-guard. Almost dropped my big bowl of cookie stuff. But our comeback was swift and eventually, accurate ... Much cant be said about Berbatov haha (as you can see, not much of a fan). Giggsy's equalising goal was superrrrrrrb and Anderson put us ahead at the 41st minute. In the second half, dear Rooney sealed the deal and everything was s-weeet!

Aw aw aw
Cramps.

The other match that got me jaws dropped was the Man City and Arsenal match. Unbelievable...dirty, rough and exciting. And the results? Bloody amazing! 4-2 to the Mancunians and wow...

Okay. Got to run.
So You Think You Can Dance is on.
It's pop'n and lock'n time.

Needles and pins

What a tiring week it has been, one which sees me falling dead before I can even reach my bed.

On top of my nerve-wrecking, jitter-inducing uni classes, I had invigilating duties for 3 days and on the average I had to be on my feet for freaking 3 hours. That's worse than being in any NPCC parades...no talking, no eating, just looking all hawk-like at the students and trying to look damn fierce (okay this one, not so hard).

It was like watching paint dry...grass grow...a beard growing on a young girl. One just gets drained after that mind numbing crap. Crap.

Got me period on Thursday till now and obviously, I cant fast. That got me pissed cause I might miss the 'holiest night' of the fasting month next week. Besides, having period doesnt mean jack squat...I cant eat and drink at work also cause it's damn insensitive to do so especially my next-cubicle colleagues are Muslim men. In the end, I'll just have to eat around the same time at 7.09pm and then rush to my 7.30 evening classes ... All bloated from menses, dinner and indigestion all rolled into one. Many a time I had to pause in between words in order to stifle a burp, belch or a puke. That sure must have been a sight to behold.

I am awake now cause my niece is staying over and she is fasting. She hasnt grasped the concept of menses = cannot fast yet and I am too lazy to explain. So...sigh...I woke up to have the morning meal (sahur) with her. Technically, I am still fasting. It's just on top of that...I also bleed. Wow...amazeballs.

Oh!

Last Thursday, I headed to the Shangri La Hotel because many of my Monash students were graduating. They were among the first batch of students whom I taught when I first got to TooMuchCrap 2 years ago so in a way...we all started a chapter in our lives together. You cannot imagine how much maternal love I felt for them that night as each one of them got up the stage, looking dashing and gorgeous in Monash regalia, to receive their certificates. I almost shed tears...but I reminded myself that I shouldnt get too carried away and that if I were to feel like this for every student, I'll be a mental trainwreck by the time I leave the school.

Congratulations!

But I am proud of them. Each one has an intriguing personal story...his/her road to success and I am so glad I manage to be in a little part of their stories. Mummy is proud!

Okay...it's 0615hrs. I better get a little more sleep before going to work later.

A thousand times goodnight, maternal suckers.

P/S: Shall go see the Dead Sea Scrolls musuem exhibition after work.

Yang terlewatkan

Kemana kau slama ini
Bidadari yang kunanti
Kenapa baru sekarang
Kita dipertemukan

Sesal tak kan ada arti
Karna semua tlah terjadi
Kini kau tlah menjalani (du du du du du..)
Sisa hidup dengannya

Mungkin salahku..
Melewatkanmu..
Tak mencarimu..
Sepenuh hati..
Maafkan aku..

Kesalahanku..
Melewatkanmu..
Hingga kau kini..
Dengan yang lain..
Maafkan aku..

Jika berulang kembali
Kau tak akan terlewati
Segenap hati kucari
Dimana kau berada

Walau ku terlambat
Kau tetap yang terhebat

Melihatmu..
Mendengarmu..
Kaulah yang terhebat

Freak me

I was so fascinated with the song when I was 12. Looking back...geez, what the fuck?!

....

Let me lick you up and down
Til you say stop
Let me play with your body baby
Make you real hot
Let me do all the things you want me to do
Cuz tonight baby I wanna get freaky with you

Baby don't you understand
I wanna be your nasty man
I wanna make your body scream
And you will know just what I
(you know what I mean)
24 carat gold
To warm the nights when you get cold
I wanna lick you up and down
And then I wanna lay you down
C'mon silk

I love the taste of whipcream
Spread it on don't be mean
(baby don't be mean)
You know I can't resist you girl
I'll fly you all around the world
(all around the world, oh baby)
I wanna make your body drip
C'mon let me take a sip
(c'mon, c'mon, c'mon)
Take off what you cherish most
(c'mon,c'mon, come on, come on baby)
Cuz when I brag I like to brag and boast

You, you, you, you
Oh you
You, you, you, you
Let me freak you
You, you, you, you
All of you
I want it, I want it
You, you, you, you
Oh you
You, you, you, you
Let me do you
Cuz tonight baby
I wanna get freaky with you

...faint.

By the way, I caught THE UGLY TRUTH just now. It was still entertaining (fluffy..just like any other rom-coms) though it does get quite predictable. Still think The Proposal is much better, though.

For the sister who is reading this...piss off.

Father and son

Look at the picture and read the background story here.

Lance Corporal Bernard from the US Marine died in Afghanistan recently and a picture of him, with his leg being blasted, was captured by a photojournalist. Associated Press decided to run the picture and now, LCPL Bernard's father is making a huge fuss over ethics. You can read it here.

My colleague, a Law lecturer, questioned about the morality of journalists and the media and also interrogated me (albeit a friendly one) on my thoughts. As a journalist (yes, I always regard myself as one so suck it if you disagree), it is our duty to report. It is, however, not in our control to see that things being published. On a superficial level, it is wrong to blame the journalists, blame editors and publishers if you must. And by the way, publishers are not necessarily journalists or media-savvy personnel. They are usually, first and foremost, businessmen.

On a deeper level, yes what the journalists report may not be the stuff fairytales and rainbows. It is, however, what we are tasked to do. The soldiers are taught to train and not to ask why they are in the war. We are trained to report what is in front of us and not to mull about how society will perceive it. We'll think about that later, when we have done our job.

So yes, I acknowledge the grief that his father is going through but the picture is similar to the photographed casualties of other wars and riots - dead Vietnamese in the Vietnam War, dead Chinese in World War II in Singapore, dead Jews massacred by Hitler, tanks threatening protesters down at Tiananmen (this one is a personal favourite because I have a soft spot for student activism) and RUC killing IRA dissidents (vice versa). Why didnt the world create a fuss when they saw dead refugees or slain protestors ... which by the way, all have been published in newspapers or magazines before? Why didnt the Americans react seeing the dead Iraqi children on TV?

Simple.
It's because the mortally wounded were not their children.

It's a big fuss because Bernard is an American who perished serving America, who happens to have an outspoken father who happens to be an ex-Marine himself. When things hit a raw nerve, we react differently. If it was not his son who was being visually captured, senior Bernard wouldnt have gone ballistic, would he?

So as a journalist, we understand the psychological impact to see your son being blown to bits on national and internatial press. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place - either we protect your emotions or we deny the world the chance to witness the brutality of war. I support this picture because firstly, it wasnt as graphic as I expected (I've seen worse in children's video games!) and secondly, it gives a powerful message of war cruelty, brotherhood, patriotism and sacrifice.

For every one angry Bernard Sr, there are million others who choose to remain silent and accept what life has got to offer, even if it means losing their sons and daughters in wars and then reliving the horror when it's telecast on TV.

...

Oh well.

I am inspired to pick up the pen, paper and camera again.

How, God?

This one for the children

...money...
...money...
...money...

Gonna change money for the festive season tomorrow. I am trying not to think about it because giving should be voluntarily and in the name of charity but it sure is damn hard when it has become more of an obligation.

Little children and old folks, it's not going to be much this time round. The rate of others copulating (and having kids) and going into senior citizen level is much faster than my pay can handle.

But with whatever little I give, I mean it from the bottom of my heart.

If only children are that understanding.

Brats.

In bloom

I am writhing in pain on my bed...unable to fall asleep. I think the KFC dinner didnt go well with my empty stomach. Gobbling it in 10 mins didnt help...had to teach immediately.

i am having a freaking headache. It's a feat that I managed to stabilise myself throughout the journey home. Horribly upset stomach, nausea, spinning headache and dehydration are slowly killing me. Need to drink but I cannot make it to the kitchen.

Should just 'ngesot' (crawl/drag myself) slowly.
Think my dehydration is making it worse.

(drama mode kicks in)

People, if I cannot make it and kick the bucket tonight, do know that I love you all and some day, we'll all meet again.

...aaaww.

Get me bodied

I have spent at least 3 hours watching The Beyonce Experience concert online. I am feeling happy (and high!) and I just want to declare to the world that..haha..I love Beyonce.

I love Beyonce!

Okay.
That's all.

P/S: How much I love Beyonce? Enough to skip my afternoon prayers :(

###

Flaws and all

I'm a train wreck in the morning
I'm a bitch in the afternoon
Every now and then without warning
I can be really mean towards you

I'm a puzzle yes indeed
Ever complex in every way
And all the pieces aren't even in the box
And yet you see the picture clear as day

I don't know why you love me
And that's why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me, flaws and all
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love

I neglect you when I'm working
When I need attention I tend to nag
I'm a host of imperfection
And you see past all that

I'm a peasant by some standards
But in your eyes I'm a queen
You see potential in all my flaws
And that's exactly what I mean

I don't know why you love me
And that's why I love you
You catch me when I fall
Accept me, flaws and all
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love you

Don't know why you love me
And that's why I love you
Catch me when I fall
Accept me flaws and all
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love you
And that's why I love you
You, you, you

P/S: It has to be next time, B :(

The sister, the lazy and irresponsible creature that she is, should be given a lesson or retribution. God, can you do something which doesnt involve anyone dying, imprisoned or getting injured? Just a little lesson to make her appreciate the parents more? And please, give her brains.

Hey asshole, sooner or later our parents will die and they'll be no one left to tolerate your nonsense. You can go to your friends and boyfriends but you'll see...at the end of the day, it's always your stupid family, whom you always cursed to 'go and die', who will save you from your shit. At the end of the day, you know that we will always be here.

Ingrate.

Sleep with your eyes open. You never know when karma is going to bite.

Rocket Man

As luck would have it, I slept through the morning and gave NPCC a complete miss. Hey, I had a tiring week so hah, cut me some slack.

At about 1300hrs, I met Meiling and we made our way to The Picturehouse to catch MOON. It was an ultra depressing film but it was done in a very beautiful, conscious-bending way. And oh, Sam Rockwell looked so good playing the tortured astronaut. I think Rockwell deserved an Oscar for this role. Havent seen anyone else worthy yet so far.

MOON did depress the shit out of me. It also made me gawk at the vastness of the Lord's creation. God is magnificent and he is the master of the universe. It is us humans who refuse to comply and try to change life's course. You may say that everything is to be. But God loves His humans and He gives us freewill and brains for us to think for ourselves. Many do abuse. Retributions will soon come for all.

Shudder.

We walked to Waterloo Street after that cause Meiling wanted to buy some wholesale stuff. Her friend is going to Vietnam to do a little missionary work and Meiling wanted to contribute some things to the cause. She's so noble...my da jie. Respect.

Along the way we stopped by at the Waterloo St temple as she stopped and pray. I waited outside, drowning in a sea of devotees. I love Waterloo St - bustling, colourful and full of culture. We then made our way to Arab St for more culture. Food culture, that is.

Managed to drag Meiling there cause I wanted to get food for my iftar (breaking of fast). Got macaroni with fishball, popiah, roti john and cendol for myself and family and Meiling got her vadeh and bandung. Managed to sneak in a bit of shopping along the lanes to buy a hand-fan (for those hot and sweaty Hari Raya visiting days), 'ang paos' and ..haha...old skool bubble balloons for my students.

By the time I reached AMK at about 1745hrs, I was deadbeat. But hey, I had a good Saturday. Meaningful and humbling. How was your Saturday?

Mas que nada

This weekend, EPL will take a break as countries battle it out in the World Cup Qualifiers. Where does your allegiance go to? Don’t tell me that I shouldnt pledge allegiance just because Singapore is not in the mix, okay. We are all entitled to our own favourites. Besides, I doubt Singapore will ever qualify in my life time. I shall not waste the love.

My main interest this weekend will be the watch between Argentina and Brazil. It’s going to be a war between Tango and Samba, Evita and Giselle, Maradona and Pele and of course Messi and Kaka. It’s going to be epic and it’s at 8.30am on a Sunday morning.

What a bloody bummer.

But, we’ll wake up and with shit in our eyes, we shall cheer for one team. The problem is, I like them both. I shall wear my Argentina jersey and my Brazil shorts.

Hey, what can I say…I’m a universal fan.

Just not Liverpool’s, that’s all.

Ode to my family

Perth is calling.
Perth is calling.
Perth is calling.

Mummy..daddy, Perth is calling.
Should I answer?
The early morning walks
The lazy Sundays at the park
The bohemian Uni days
The student activist riots
The chillout lounges
The eclectic music
Great outdoors
Greater indoors
Vast skies
Endless seas
Being lost in places
Finding the real self
Beautiful sunrises
Magnificent sunsets
Lousy buses
Fantastic trains

Let the psycho-ing activity begin.

Superstar

I am swamped with work and on top of that, I am tired...work and fasting all roll into one. Still, there's always a little something to bring inthe L-O-Ls and the cheer.

Yesterday, the students (same ones who gave the Mass Comm lecturers flowers) got us into the classroom and they surprised each of us with a big box. In the boxes, were care bears. We all got one each.

It was post-Teachers' Day gift apparently. That was sweet ... and generous of them. Maybe some felt guilty that they didnt contribute to the flowers after I sent a mass email saying thanks for the bouquet. The guilt made them go out and buy care bears, hahaha.

They gave me a huge card and Superstar Care Bear.

"Superstar dazzles everyone with her winning attitude. Whether she wins or loses, this bear keeps going all out! Whatever you're doing, remember what her tummy symbol means - at the centre of every star, there is a big heart."

Awwww.

My heart is big because it's swollen ... with love?

Back to work.

P/S: It's Hitchcock night tonight. God I hate Hitchcock.

P/P/S: The gay Cheer Bear is still my favourite though.

Good times

To my Moonies, you guys are in my mind.

To some of you who went to the chalet back when we were in poly (Jo, Jay, Mail), remember I brought my guitar and we had a singalong session? We sang Leaving On A Jet Plane and I made it into a punk version? Everyone sang so fast till they were out of breath?

Here.
Reminisce.

P/S: Caught Coco Before Chanel in the afternoon. It was awrite. It's not bad but it's just... hollow.

Bright future in sales (not!)

Am doing some side-job, doing Malay copywriting. Initially, it was just translation but the original English text was crap and so the Malay text needed to be better.

I am suddenly reminded how clients can be a freaking pain in the ass who cannot decide what they want because they have too much money and time. Basket.

Crap.

The things I have to deal with for a few hundred bucks. Should have charged them more.

###

Pulse of the maggots

The flowers the students gave. I was too shy to carry the bouquet as it was and so I stuffed it into a plastic bag on my way home.

Upon reaching home, I couldnt find any nice vase and so I put it in a big Shrek mug :(

Happy Teachers' Day to my teaching friends.

......

TooMuchCrap is having a hike session tomorrow at Hort Park in conjunction with Teachers' Day. After the morning hike, they'll end up at Safra for lunch. I say freaking bollocks to that. What about those who are fasting?

The Muslims who are going are planning to (a) take a really slow stroll or (b) just go straight to the ending point. I find the last one quite funny because by the time everyone reaches the ending point, the Muslims will just go home. I know I know...it's because they do not want to take leave. Unlike me.

And then during lunch, the school will give out some prizes to a recently-ended contest in school - Best Service Staff Award. The best thing is...this award is not even opened to teachers. Again, bollocks. What great sensitivity the school has.

No we dont get the day off, we get half day. Anyone who doesnt want to participate in the sweaty event will have to apply for a full day leave. Full day. I am taking that full day. I know it's stupid; taking a full day leave when work is only half a day but I just hate the idea behind the event. I just hate everything that goes into it - the management, the logistics (no transport provided, staff get there by hook or by crook)etc.

Happy fooking Teachers' Day.
