I remember you

Rushed home last night, took a shower and then, start banging.
My drums, that is.
Was banging from midnight to almost 0300hrs.

I've been all out of sorts lately. Many things happening in my life and I cant immerse myself in any. I feel the occasional breathless period (not the cholestrol, I hope) sometimes and sometimes when I am resting, I realise I am not breathing properly. It's like I am holding my breath and not letting go. It's not the usual tired breathlessness; more like breathlessness in anticipation of something. But of course, nothing exciting or dangerous happened.

Yesterday on the train, as I was standing in the cabin minding my own business, it struck me that I was holding my breath. Not that it was smelly...but it was like I was a freaking retard who didnt know how to breathe. Crap. Maybe yoga is the answer.

Anyway, in the pouring rain yesterday, I made my way to The Cathay after work. While waiting for Meiling, I headed to Starbucks and the guy at the counter was so nice. He actually asked how my day was and he actually listened to what I said!

Why is this strange?

Because usually, people asked for the sake of asking (*ahem*checkout girls*ahem*)and many dont even ask at all. So I was quite surprised when he asked how was my day ("bad!"), why was it bad ("too long") and how he could make it better ("caramel macchiato, please") and promised that the steaming brew would hopefully make me un-sulk myself. Awwww.

Meiling came and we headed to my favourite theatre in the world - The Picturehouse - to catch one of the good shows so far this year.

TALK TO ME brought in the laughs, the tears, the history, the drama about struggle and identity and most personally, the nostalgia of mucking around behind the console. Don Cheadle was ..wow.. as Petey Greene, an ex-con who became a radio DJ, then a popular talk show host and community activist in the 1960s. Man, that's what I had planned to do - the talk show, the DJ and the activisit, not the ex-con.

Petey Greene: [introducing a guest on his talk show] This is a pimp I wouldn't trust to wash my car, but y'all done elected him city official...
Dewey Hughes: PETEY!

...

Dewey Hughes: I need you to say the things I can't say, and you need me to do the things you can't do.

...

Petey Greene: I'll tell it to the hot, I'll tell it to the cold. I'll tell it to the young, I'll tell it to the old. I don't want no laughin', I don't want no cryin', and most of all, no signifyin'. This is Petey Greene's Washington.

So yeah, Talk To Me made me miss Rediffusion so bad. Sometimes I wonder why did I throw it away when I could have another 2 more good years there. Ditching it for a paper qualification, pah. I was so much happier there. Spinning discs and telling yarns; playing music which changed society, talking to myself, about myself, for myself. It was the most gratifying job I've ever done.

Nope.
Teaching doesnt even come close.

Rediffusion: When times were simpler, machines were less complicated and music was much sweeter.

Oh well.
Snap snap.

Time to go work. But not before sharing this pure gem. Managed to download this 2 weeks ago and had been getting re-acquainted with it since. When Obama won, I thought, man, how poetic could this song be. Imagine my surprise when Talk To Me used this as its main song. We love you, Sam Cooke.

I was born by the river
In a little tent
And just like the river
I've been running ever since

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh, yes it is

It's been too hard living
But I'm afraid to die
I don't know what's up there beyond the sky

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh yes it will

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me don't hang around
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
I say brother help me please
But he winds up knocking me
Back down on my knees

There's been times that I thought
I wouldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
Oh, yes it will
- A Change is Gonna Come, Cooke

*sniff*

We take our lives and loves for granted, ya'll.

P/S: MAIL! How? How? Let's not have it in December. It's too late and it will open a new can of worms.
