You never know you were dead until you get reborn again.
Hmm.
The past few days have been a whirl, with the start of the new uni semester. Am teaching 3 units - Film Theories, Newsroom Practice and Cultural Policy (yeah, wadafark!) - and have been slogging my ass off trying to read all these thick books... chewing them into bite size so that I can regurgitate and pass it on to young Padawans.
Yes, that's how the cookie crumbles.
Yesterday's part time Film Class was better in terms of size and the dynamics of the students. Lesser students means we can have a meaningful discussion and more views can be heard. Which is good if they have something substantial to say. And last night, they did have insights.
We talked about how the porn industry was a double-edged sword. On one hand you see sexual objectification of women, the degradation, the power of patriarchy and stuff and yet on the other hand, we can see the empowerment of women.
Empowerment in a way that no one is forcing these ladies to show their coochies and that they are doing this because they are comfortable with their own bodies and would like to earn some money while doing something they are all right with. By preventing these women from doing so, it is like telling a person to stop working or pursuing his/her interest. Now, that's restricting the right to practise. Now, that's breaching of human rights and civil liberty. You get the idea?
So naturally.... I have to show them Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
It's elementary, my dear.
Okay.
Time to go to school.
Diploma class in the afternoon and journalism uni unit in the evening.
