(In my ultimate state of sleepiness this morning, i could still eavesdrop on a conversation...on the MRT. So i quickly took out my notebook and wrote my thoughts.) - Ed, now.
This 62-year-old Indian man is telling the history of Singapore to a young Indonesian man. I think this old man has a huge problem.
"Don't say that you dont know Singapore. This is your country. Do you know that Singapre is part of Indonesia? Riau island?
"Indians are not Singaporeans. They have India as a motherland. Chinese are from China. They cant say is Singapore is their nation. They are not Sing0poreans."
Hey old man. If Indians and the Chinese and whoever think they are Singaporeans are not Singaporeans, then who are the Singaporeans? The Indonesians? Or the Malaysians ~ because they are the natives of the Malay-Riau peninsular?
Puh-leez!
It is no longer about where you are from and what you are doing. It is a matter of belonging and identification. It is ours because we work for it and not claiming it just because we are born into the system.
He said that young people didnt know Singapore's history.
Wrong.
You cant assume that. Can you prove that we dont work just as hard as our forefathers? True they have their physical brute strength to build the country...but hey, it is equally hard to maintan and develop this piece of land even further. So bloody idiot, give us some credit!
And oh..stop saying that Singapore belongs to Indonesia. It doesnt belong to anyone but its own people. And by that, that means the people who work, live and die for Singapore. The people who see to the sovereignty ...the people who raise their families here. The people who are working their asses off overseas so that they can have a better life when they eventually come back.
Dont freaking say that Singapore belongs to another country and that the people are not the peeople of the state.
Grrrr....
Anyway, woke up late to Meiling's loud phone call. All groggy.
Was so pissed with the cadets today. I told them to fall in once..twice..thrice and yet they didnt do it. I lost it and started to scream at them and pumped them. I was out of control...scoldng and rambling out of nobody's business. I actually had to run away from them for good 10 minutes because they made me so angry.
Sigh.
I am dead tired.
